No "topping" this

When it comes to Darwin award perfection...

Not to be unkind, but this guy clearly didn't die of "brain injuries"... That would require having a brain to begin with. Shocking that he made it to 41...

"A man's death has been ruled an accident after he lit a firework off of his Uncle Sam top hat on the Fourth of July, a South Carolina coroner told USA TODAY Monday.

Allen Ray McGrew, 41, died Thursday afternoon while celebrating the holiday outside his home in Summerville, a town about 25 miles northwest of Charleston, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office reported last week.

Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers said McGrew died due to "massive head trauma with cerebral avulsion" and ruled his death an accident.

An autopsy "was not necessary" on the victim..."

Has patriotism in the U.S. become political?

I saw these cool Americana caps (Aloha, thought of you on the 1812 cap):

I'd like to buy one. But where I live, I have to think about looking MAGA, which is sad.

I already wear a South Bend Cubs hat with the logo of the bear in stars and stripes, and I get looks from people. I think it started in 2020 after the George Floyd incident and protests, and it seems to me that in certain deep blue areas, patriotism is now frowned upon. I think the woke (or call them those heavily invested in the the current social justice movement if you hate the term) frown upon patriotism, and so do a lot of young people. (By the way, I'm not accusing anyone on here of being ashamed of the U.S. or frowning upon patriotism and don't think anyone does).

There are a lot of reasons to be critical of the U.S. past and present (and each party's policies and actions are to blame), and I am critical of it. But I still identify as an American.

I think I like the hat that says "Liberty" in the crescent the best, in terms of style and symbol. But two things make me pause: (1) Liberty has become the buzz word of the anti-maskers to such an extent some of the left seem to openly mock the term; and (2) the symbol was created and used by American Revolutionaries in South Carolina--so they were fighting for liberty while simultaneously supporting a system of slavery. That bothers me, although I guess it's a great reminder of the contradiction at the heart of the U.S. founding.

Biden thanks Philadelphia, PA voters for Delaware Senate race wins... 🙄

Who knows... given the fast and loose approach the DNC takes to voting in Philly maybe they actually did find a way to help him in Delaware... Truth is stranger than fiction with that crowd...

Most likely though is that Ol' Joe, once again, simply didn't know where he was our even what office he's running for...

Commander in Chief , Finger on the Nuclear button, Leader of the Free World...

We are screwed...

Anyone who actually believes that guy is able to carry out his duties as President is at best a brainwashed partisan, at worst, simply a fool...

Unhinged Trump compares Biden Administration to Nazi Germany

Guy is losing it (assuming he ever had it). In a rambling, angry, profanity-laced 90-minute speech yesterday, he compared the Biden Administration to the Gestapo, and hurled invective at the prosecutors involved in his several indictments.

He also offered immediate time on stage (with him) to anyone who agreed, on the spot, to donate $1 million to his campaign. Two people took him up on the offer. One of the million-dollar donors, a woman, proclaimed: "Donald J. Trump is the person God has chosen!"

Crazy Town.

Hoosier Huddle

I am not trying to plug these guys, I don’t even know who they are. But I have been reading their “IU opponents summaries” articles.
So far it looks like our first two games are against weaker teams. If we are an improved team I believe we could win big twice. Perhaps score more than 30 and give up fewer than 10.
I assumed we would lose game three on the road at UCLA. But in just reading that article, we may have a much better chance at a W than I thought. Tough game- big school, road game, west coast time zone, long flight, etc. But rather than an old IU 40-3 loss we may have a chance to fly home 3-0.
Not sure when fall practice starts, but for those of us who still live close enough to tailgate (I am 5 states away) have fun.

Debate fallout

A lot of discussion about the Dem party's options going forward. Two other issues:

(1) We've had a lot of people in government and media saying all the talk about Biden's mental fitness was uncalled for, that Biden was as sharp as a 40 year old, that it was all a right-wing fake media and result of selective editing. A lot of people, until last night, believed this.

The people who knew Biden, had met with him, talked with him or others in the admin, knew this was all a lie. Not a misunderstanding, not a misinterpretation, a blatant lie. Will there be consequences? Will media personalities who pushed this "misinformation" and "disinformation" lose credibility? (Yes, the same thing happened 4 years ago with the pushing of the election fraud cases, etc. It happens on both sides).

(2) Biden's most egregious lie was this line, that I can only think was scripted:

Fact check: Biden suggests no troops died under his watch

“The truth is I’m the only president this century that doesn’t have any this decade and any troops dying anywhere in the world like he did,” Biden said.

This is false.

The Defense Department confirmed that 13 U.S. service members were killed in a suicide bombing attack at Abbey Gate at the Kabul airport by a member of ISIS-K as the U.S. was leaving Afghanistan.

[The article omits the 3 who died in Jordan as a result of a drone attack in February of this year]

Biden received the bodies of the soldiers in both of these events. It's not something a person forgets. The last one was a mere 4 months ago:

He either chose to lie about this very grave subject or he forgot about it. I'm not sure which is more disqualifying for a president. His administration should apologize immediately to the families of those dead soldiers. I'm very surprised this isn't the main talking point today about just how far he is gone.
