Michigan v IU tomorrow

Thinking back to the game in Assembly Hall my vivid memory was both Dickinson and Houstan going off from the 3 point line. Looking at the box score they were 8/11 combined.

The other vivid memory is every one of their attempts appeared to be wide open looks. That seemed so odd egocentric our defensive prowess. No doubt Houstan at 6’8” is a matchup nightmare as a guard but it’s clear whoever guards Dickinson has to extend his D to the 3 point look me.

For those that recall that game, was Woody basically saying let them try to beat us at home from deep? Did Howard just have a great O game plan? Or was our D just that bad that day? Finally, given we probably start both Kopp and Stewart who guards Dickinson/Houstan? Has to be Trace/Race right?

How in the hell is Will Wade still coaching

There is concrete proof that Wade offered cash to at least 11 recruits from the FBI. Now LSU just received a letter from the NCAA enforcement group and it has several serious infractions stemming from the FBI sting.

Is Ilhan Omar Russian like Liz Warren was Native American?

She seems far more concerned with the people of Russia than Ukrainians. And to be clear, part of her argument has merit - there are millions of innocent Russians caught up in this nonsense because of their dictator. However, how do you reconcile that feeling with people that are literally getting bombarded from every direction, and despite that, need some assistance fighting.

Winning Time on HBO IU Connection

Just finished the first episode of Winning Time about the Magic era in LA. Overall was entertained. A little different take on the production as the characters will step out of real time and talk with the viewer. Thought it was a little overdone, but it was different.

Kinda strange as the series begins with Magic in a doctor's office getting some disturbing news although it was not stated outright.

Anyway, after that opening scene we see Jerry Buss in bed with a topless college girl. She's more interested in sleep but Jerry is watching basketball on TV. The scenes show no particular game or pro team, but one that caught my eye was Benson in IU uniform shooting one of his hook shots. I also think there was another glimpse of an IU player (Abernathy?). He starts to compare basketball to sex. So, the rest is history. He gets inspired to buy the Lakers and the story begins there.... all because of the beauty of basketball and Benson's hook shot. Well, quite a stretch, but I thought it was cool.

One thing I thought a little strange was the portrayal of Jerry West being a crazed, profanity spewing jerk. Don't guess he was anyone's angel, but I thought his character, though amusing, was unexpectedly cartoonish.

The guy that portrays Magic is spot on with that smile. Also fun is the filming that looks like it was made in 70's and 80's. Bootsy Collins rocks. As long as you realize a lot of this is fiction, I think most fans will enjoy it as entertainment and not a documentary.

Cincinnati@IU: IU shuts out hot-hitting Cincy, 7-0...

We got two early runs in the 1st without a hit as the starter for Cincy walked four batters and hit another and was pulled after getting just one out and the bases loaded. The Cincy reliever Beau Keathley is a righty with an ERA of 8.38 in 9.2 IP. The Cincy reliever walked the first two batters he faced to make it 4-0 with the bases still loaded and one out. IU made it 5-0 on a fielder's choice and Cincy went to their bullpen again bring in Max Bergman, a righty with an ERA of 6.75, and IU with runners on the corners and two outs. A ground out ended the inning with IU scoring 5 runs on no hits, 6 walks, and a hit batter. IU's freshman Luke Hayden put them down in order with one K in the 1st. It's 39 degrees with little wind at The Bart.

No love from B1G coaches for Race and X

I see that TJD made the 2nd team all-B1G, but XJ and Race are no shows on the list. The media put Race and XJ in the honorable mention category and TJD on the 2nd team.

Funny that a lot of folks say IU has plenty of talent to be good and might agree that Wisconsin is a one man team with Johnny Davis, but Wisconsin had 4 guys on the list from the coaches and IU only had 1.

Frankly though I think Race and XJ deserve to be at least in the HM category, like they were with the media votes, but B1G coaches must circle the IU game on the schedule thinking they only need to be concerned with one guy.

We need more talent.
