The pro-segregation, anti-abortion nexus

Ali Velshi lays it out pretty definitively in this commentary. You're welcome to disagree, but the evidence is pretty strong for his argument. Not only is the link between the Religious Right's overriding anti segregation and anti-abortion stances pretty blatant, but he also points out that Roe vs Wade was not even a very galvanizing ruling for the Right, until probably a 1/2 decade or so later...

The BIG issue for the Right from the start was Brown vs Board of Education- rendered in 1954,the year before I was born. Falwell, Liberty U, Bork... he lays out all the damning evidence that Segregation was the real boogeyman, and it was only when they realized that they were not going to gain traction (and political power) on that issue with any semblance of a majority of the population that they fell into line and chose abortion as their political sword. Obviously, the "moral majority"...not particularly moral, and never really close to a majority, has never really believed in individual freedom for everyone...

Basketball vs football ticket pricing - a first?

Having selected my football seats yesterday I noticed that my basketball season ticket renewal application is live in my account. The price per game for my football season tickets is $53 while the per game price for the upcoming basketball season is $54. I am wondering if any other B10 school has basketball tickets priced higher than football?
This is the first time by my recollection that IU basketball per game tickets cost more than football.

Alito cited a witch burner from the 17th C.

Makes taking con law 25 years ago seem...man.

I know Alito, et al are accomplished. They've reached the pinnacle of my profession. They could run tiny or large circles around me, constitutional law-wise.

But no matter their deranged clinging to a 200 year old document, or their cynicism towards stare decisis, the end result will be the same: within the next 3 decades, this country will splinter and dissolve, the experiment of democracy here will at least be put on pause and these 6 self-righteous, pious brainiacs just told 2/3 of America that they're babykillers and that women can't control their own bodies....when all we are are people who live in a world where abortion has existed and will continue to exist or hundreds of thousands of years.

People's real problem should be with God, if you ask me. Is the Big Man too busy? Can't even send his kid down again and straighten this out?

I'm done dealing w grown adults who still believe in fairy tales, and you should be too.

Oregon to install tampon machines in boys bathrooms at schools.

Thanks to the Menstrual Dignity Act that just passed, local taxpayers are now on the hook for thousands of new tampon dispensers in boys’ bathrooms. This latest madness, which affects every public school and college in the state, is expected to cost up to $400 a machine. And school custodians aren’t the only ones upset about it.

“This will show all of our youth, and especially our trans youth, that the bathroom they’re using, that affirms their gender, that it’s for them,” argued one Portland resident, “and it has the products there that they might need.”

Legislators agreed, expanding a bill that was originally intended to give female students free sanitary products at school. Now, in an absurd gesture, the state has decided to “affirm the right to menstrual dignity for transgender, intersex, nonbinary, and two-spirit students” by trying to “minimize negative attention that could put them at risk of harm … during menstruation.”
