2024 point guard Travis Perry note...

2024 Lyon County (Ky) and Indiana Elite point guard Travis Perry is visiting Indiana on Friday for an unofficial visit, he confirms to me.

Indiana reached out during the first live period when they watched him on the Adidas 3SSB circuit when it was in Indianapolis.

Perry had a 25-point game last weekend at the Bill Hensley Run N Slam in a two-point win over Indy Heat.

Archie Discussed What Went Wrong At IU...

Yeah, who cares. Anyhow, I can't say I disagree with his comments.

(The full interview by Talia Goodman with Miller is below)

“We recruited good players, we recruited good kids. I was happy to watch all of the guys that we brought there this season finally crack the opportunity to go to the tournament,” Miller said. “Trayce was a junior this year. As a freshman, he helped lead us to the tournament but it got canceled. So he had still never experienced that Selection Sunday. I was happy to watch their players this year do well.

“In my time there, there’s a lot of things you look back on and say, ‘boy, I wish I’d done this different. I wish I did this better.’ And I think part of what we have always aspired to do and will continue to aspire to do is have a skilled team. Have a team that’s based on the ability to play the game with versatility and skill. And we didn’t shoot the ball well enough in my time at Indiana to get over the hump.

“Offense, at the end of the day, really comes down to, did you make an open shot or didn’t you? Did you make a free throw or didn’t you? And we just over the course of time consistently did not shoot the ball well enough, in my time, to overcome tight losses or games where you played well enough defensively to win, but just didn’t have enough offense.

“I feel like shooting the ball is at a premium right now. We needed to shoot the ball better in my time at Indiana and have more shooting around some of the great post players that we had in my time. We had Juwan Morgan for two years who is with the Celtics. We recruited Trayce and Trayce has been an All-American since he’s been there.

“But we needed a little bit more firepower and spacing around those guys and we just didn’t do a good enough job, in my opinion, of either recruiting them or developing them, or putting them in a situation where they had better shots, whatever it may have been.

“One thing I wish as look back on it, (was that) we had paid maybe more careful attention to the shooting early on in our recruiting rather than just the talent. Sometimes you need bodies. And sometimes you need to get bigger. When you take over a job, you have to have massive turnover in your first two years so you know you’re going to have to recruit a lot of guys. And rather than just take good players and have a plan to develop guys while they get there, maybe more selection early on in terms of identifying shooting would have helped our cause a little bit more.

“But I have no regrets. Indiana is a great school. It’s a beautiful campus. All of the players have a great experience there. It’s a great place to go to school. But I have no regrets. Sometimes the toughest pills that you have to swallow end up being the ones that make you better at the end of the day and I envision that being the case after my time is gone there.”

Rivals national writer Rob Cassidy takes a look at the Xavier Booker recruitment.

I would move Indiana down a line here. But regardless I think Michigan State has a solid hold on this recruitment at the moment

Constitutional Theory - Apropos Today

So, I'm sitting home with kidney stones and a stent, waiting for removal, and taking pain meds. Awake at all the wrong hours, etc.

Watching C-Span 1, 2 or 3 as usual for a law nerd.

This one touched on a semi-relevant point:

https://www.c-span.org/video/?517257-1/lincolns-speeches

The question was about the "perpetuality" of the Union and Constitution at the time of the Civil War. Lincoln had long-argued that the Constitution does not provide for any "dissolution" or "secession" - to counter the argument of the Secesh that "we joined and we can quit, you tyrant bastard."

Small point, but worthy - the Articles of Confederation expressly referred to the "perpetual Union" of the colonies they were banding together. The Constitution made no references to such a "perpetual" Union, but DID state an attempt to form a "more perfect" union.

This same group also discusses some things that CRT and Project 1619 folks won't like - the redemptive and "sin cleansing" and "re-birth" impact of the Civil War on both the Constitution and white America's (North and South, inclusive) "sin" of slavery and paying the price ("woe") therefore. The conclusion was that the Constitution initially allowed slavery, then the war and post-amendments "fix" it - cleansed the original sin - and allowed the perpetual Union to move forward anew - in a manner akin to Christian "re-birth" ala Jesus.

It's worth 50 minutes.

Mike Woodson 2022 Summer Basketball Camps

IU Coach Mike Woodson To Hold Two Basketball Camps This Summer

If you know the story of how Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson began his journey with the Hoosier program, you know that it began with attending a summer camp that was put on by Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight. The youngster from Indianapolis had a chance to make an impression for the first time with his long-time mentor and thus a near half-century relationship began.

“One of the biggest thrills of my life was winning a contest at Coach Knight’s camp and being given a t-shirt for doing so,” noted the Hoosiers second-year coach. “After that, there really wasn’t any other place that I wanted go to college and there wasn’t a coach who I wanted to play for more than Bob Knight.”

Woodson will now have the chance to run his own camps in the Summer of 2022, with Day Camps for boys in Grades 2 thru 9, June 13-16 and June 20-23. The camps encourage a love and appreciation for the game and will have a staff which will include Hoosier coaches, players, and student-managers.

“If we can inspire someone and change the direction of their life then I feel like we will have accomplished what we set out to do,” added Woodson.

The Day Camp will emphasize fundamental skill development. The daily schedule will include individual instruction, small group instruction, contest and competitions, and 5-on-5 scrimmages. This is your opportunity to experience Coach Woodson’s basketball program up close. The Day Camp will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Check in will begin on Monday at 8:15 a.m.
