Anti-MAGA Conservative roundtable

I don't either, but I honestly don't want people to sit out just because Trump sucks so much oxygen out of everything. Trump running again is just a rehash of all of this. There is a better option on the table in Desantis who can pull both the Trump voter and the more establishment voter.

We cannot risk another 4 years of what we are currently getting.
Well we can't risk another 19 months of what we're getting, for sure.

Not to veer too far off topic, but I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed in @Lucy01 , @GuyDatHoo , @DANC and other card-carrying MAGA folks here who let yesterday come and go without celebrating their leader's 76th birthday.

For as unhealthy as that guy is, he has looked exactly the same for the last two decades. I'll let everyone else decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Labeling myself as a card carrying MAGA folk is the most inane thing I’ve ever seen on this board. You are an absolutely worthless poster. Leave.

No, it's because it would split the Party and endanger a guaranteed win in 2024.
If Trump and DeSantis treated each other with respect and avoided negative campaigning it would seem to me the party would remain undivided after the primaries.

Hoot, with all due respect, I suggest you seek medical attention.

Did you forget that you used the word Trump and discussed treating an opponent with "respect" in the same sentence?

It's interesting that you characterize 2024 as a guaranteed win 2+ yrs out. If the GOP does take both Houses in 2022, I'm curious about what you think they're going to do to rectify the current situation that they currently just complain about, since they haven't actually put forth any policy positions to run on and are avoiding doing so like the plague...

Scott put forth his "plan" and the rest of the party is so horrified that he put it down in writing that they basically disavowed him. How exactly are culture war issues like, abortion, CRT and DeSantis fighting Disney and teachers in FL going to improve the day to day lives of Americans? When they take control in 2022 and have effectively caught the bull they were chasing on these culture issues that resonate with a minority of people, then what do they have left as red meat to run on in 2024?

I realize those issues appeal to Trumpers, but part of the reason that the out of party power usually wins in mid terms is because their base is angry and motivated from losing 2 yrs earlier. What issues do you see that resonate with the Trump base that are popular with the rest of the country? I'm not talking 2022, but in 2024, when you feel the Pubs are "guaranteed" a win?

The Pubs controlled Congress from 2016 to 2018, and on election night 2016 the Dem Parties in PA,MI and WI were in shambles. Two years later, Dems won the statewide races in all 3 of those states. So what do the Pubs do differently this time when they have control? Do you see 2 yrs of people like MTG, ex-escort Lauren Boebert, Jim Jordan, Louie Gohmert, Paul Gosar and the various QAnon fans running in November in CONTROL as a recipe for electoral success?

Rick Scott wants to increase taxes on some people...

Billionaire Rick Scott who made millions in a medicare scam, uses loopholes to lower his taxes...

The opposite of anything and everything Biden, Harris, Pete and the Squad have pushed. Simple.

Sure, and if sheep and wolves treated each other with respect, the world would be so much better.

Tell me that last time you saw a political campaign with no negative campaigning.

Elections where the non-incumbent has little money and no chance to win can result in no negative ads. Even then, however, the potential loser may make derogatory remarks about his opponent.

DANC, as you probably realize the negative ads turn me off, but I have to admit they do work.

Exactly. No one likes them...... but they work.

Negative ads also work to put politicians and trust in government in low regard as can be seen in polls.

Even the winners end up as losers in the eyes of the public.

There's a reason that many believe it.
The only real reason is that Trump pushed the lie before the election in case he lost, and after the election because he lost, and Trumpsters bought it. They bought it despite the fact there is no evidence of it. They bought it on the basis of widely implausible and frankly ridiculous theories because they desperately want to believe Trump. Trump pushed the lie because he just can’t accept that he could lose. He says he hates losers and can’t stand the idea the he is a loser. The fact is that he is a loser. I just can’t wrap my head around the idea that a two-time popular vote loser (the second in a landslide) is still worshiped (and I do mean worshiped, like a segment of Obama voters worshiped him) and is the best Republican candidate in 2024. He’s not even a good candidate.

And you wonder why I call you a liberal!

Lucy, could it be there are Coolerites who are both liberal and conservative and/or somewhere in the middle depending on the issue ?

Aloha just might be one of those people.

Nope you can’t be a moderate anymore!

Lucy, you mean like someone who wants to balance the federal budget by cutting spending and raising taxes ?

Lucy, you may be on to something.

Why raise taxes? They would just piss it away in Ukraine.

I forget - was it Trump or Joe Biden you voted for?

I respect his service to the Country, but I dislike his politics.
I don't even dislike his politics. But he lets personalities get in the way of his judgement, which indicates he is ruled more by emotion than logic.

No one that knows me would think I’m ruled by my emotions. No one.

May be. But seriously, the way you post here is pretty emotional.

Louis XVI had a fairer trial than the 1/6 committee is giving Trump.

I don’t know how you could possibly get that from the way I post. Maybe it’s because you’re emotionally invested in Trump and believe any negative comment about him is “emotional.”

No, it's because you've admitted you agree with most of his policies but can't stand him personally. How does his personality hurt you? It doesn't.

You're cutting off your nose to spite your face when it comes to Trump.

I have no trouble identifying Trump's faults, which are obvious. The difference is, I know the country benefits from his policies, so, while I'd prefere Captain America as President, I realize there is no perfect person. Further, I realize that there are many politicians in DC - Biden foremost among them - have personality defects that are covered by the media and hurt the country.

I've never said I agreed with most of his policies, because I didn't. I agreed with some of them and said so when I did. Overall, I thought he was a disaster. Just about any reasonable Republican would have been better. That he's liar out for only himself is only part of the story as to why I thought he had to go. Still do. I can't understand why you supposed Republicans haven't dumped the guy completely. He cost us the Senate, which I had expected to stay in Republican control and would have without his ridiculous accusations of massive voter fraud in Georgia. Dump Trump and move on.

I have yet to hear a policy you disagreed with. Feel free to set the record straight now.
