WVU Fans are Butthurt

The AD's statement doesn't sound that way. "Coach DeVries informed me of his plans to accept the head coaching position at another institution. Coach and I had several conversations in recent weeks focused on working together to build on a strong foundation and continue to grow our program. I made it clear to him that WVU is committed to invest in him and provide the resources needed to compete in the Big 12 and nationally. Ultimately, he decided to move on, and I want to thank him for his time at WVU."
This is going off of a pod cast. Yours is the official media statement. Mine was from an insider.

Tucker first had surgery on the shoulder last March, following the completion of his junior season at Drake.
So, wait, now you're saying DeVries had a deal with Dolson in March of '24, then faked coming back for 8 games, only to have the fake injury/surgery? Bastards. (and yes, I'm kidding)

I have to admit I was naive that the “interviewing” process would take place while the coaching candidate was still coaching his current team. But someone on here mentioned the other day, that’s how it has to happen. After seeing the presser, Dolson mentioned that it was a process that didn’t just happen overnight.
It’s just like any other business. It takes time if you want to do things right.
Yeah, business. The downside to putting a specific liquidated damages clause (aka a buyout) into the contract...it just sets the price that other teams have to pay to induce a coach to breach.

I'm a little surprised there aren't more lawsuits over coach contract breaches, but I haven't researched those issues.

The first school that sued a coach over breaking a contract would have a very hard time hiring another coach ever again.

Please do not bring anything up that pertains to law, or we’ll have zeke in here blowing up again.🙀

You might think that, but I don't think that's true. The pay bump from hundreds of k to w million a year would easily entice people regardless of lawsuits. Besides, it's not the coach they'd sue. They won't have a suit against the coach as long as the buyout gets paid. They'd sue the other school for tortious interference with a contract.

Yeah his official statement is pretty generic as you'd expect.

When is the last time IU worried about another program poaching their coach? I'd guess when New Mexico was courting RMK. Maybe now with Cig.

I think the statement you posted is accurate. It's consistent with comments made during the WVU AD's hour-long media conference yesterday. WVU gave DeVries an offer and then IU gave DeVries an offer. WVU's AD asked DeVries to give WVU an opportunity to give DeVries a counteroffer, but DeVries never did, instead opting to immediately accept the IU offer.

According the WVU AD, DeVries had been contacted by MANY teams throughout the season, but the AD believed that DeVries only spoke with Indiana (the AD didn't specify if the conversations with IU occurred during/after the season ended.

Sorry Iowa fans, according to WVU's AD, your program was never under consideration.

I listened to DD's portion of the PC twice and never got that impression. What made you think it was that early? You sure you're not buying into what some of the WVU haters are selling? All I heard him say was that during the discussions, IU was respectful of the fact he still had a team to coach. That to me would mean it likely was pretty recently, but before they were snubbed and knew they weren't accepting other bids. I would guess SD was putting out feelers for awhile, beginning around CMW's "announced retirement".
An Indy Star article this morning said that Dolson identified CDD early on and he quickly became the number one target. And that they had a couple of conversations while CDD was coaching WVU. And that Whitten was in the second conversation.

Just wait until DeVries raids the WVU roster and two-thirds of their 4-star recruiting class....
I don't recall a big stink from JMU fans when Cignetti accepted the IU job, along with 12 of their best players. It's called life in the fast lane, so deal with it. The Eagles even wrote a song about it.

Dolson's process in finding prospects. Not necessarily talking to anyone early.
