Eric Olson with the Associated Press named Tom Allen's seat the hottest in the conference last week before the Hoosiers traveled to and lost at Michigan:
"Tom Allen has Indiana headed toward a third straight losing season, but the bigger concern is that the Hoosiers (2-3, 0-2) have dropped 18 of their last 20 Big Ten games and haven’t been competitive in most of them. Indiana has already fired offensive coordinator Walt Bell but Allen could be a harder decision: His buyout is $20.4 million."

Bruce Feldman with The Athletic said earlier this week that Allen's seat temeperature is "pretty warm and getting warmer":
"Indiana has had one top-15 finish in the last half-century, and that was on Allen’s watch during the 6-2 run in the 2020 pandemic season. The Hoosiers got to No. 11. Since then, it’s been brutal: 8-22 overall and just 2-19 in Big Ten play.
Allen’s a respected man among his peers and is a good defensive coach. Since offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer left Indiana after the 8-5 season in 2019, Allen’s cycled through three OCs, including this year’s move off of Walt Bell to Rod Carey. Unlike a lot of coaches on this list, Allen works at a place where football isn’t the main thing; hoops is, and he’s still got a big buyout, especially for Indiana. The buyout (around $20 million) still might be too big of a hurdle for the Hoosiers, but at 2-4, they’ll probably be an underdog the rest of the way, with the possible exceptions of a home game against Michigan State and at Purdue. If they go 2-10 again, things probably will get really dicey, although 3-9 might be a tough sell too.

Rivals' Adam Gorney took stock of the situation prior to last weekend, calling Allen's seat "sizzling" hot:
"Allen has been Indiana’s coach since 2017 and not counting the shortened 2020 COVID season, he has one winning campaign in Bloomington. That is not irregular at Indiana and the 8-5 season in 2019 was the first winning one since Bill Lynch’s first year in 2007. It’s just hard to win in an ever-improving Big Ten, and his is 2-3 this season heading into the Michigan weekend.
The Hoosiers are No. 12 in the conference recruiting rankings and one of two Big Ten teams, along with Northwestern, with no four-star commitments. The Hoosiers seem stuck in neutral but they’ve felt that way since forever."
