What rules?I’ve advocated for him. Watched his USI teams a lot. The guy can flat out coach - but you just have to make sure he’s following the rules.
Why? I ask that honestly. In today's NCAA, what is it about him that would give you such a hard stance on it? The dude wins and most players don't even make it to graduation. They transfer or leave for the NBA. We need a guy who can recruit, develop players, construct a complete team and ultimately, win. Right now, if I gave each of these a one point weighting, I would score us as:No
Never

Help me out with the POTU acronym. Also, my point is the environment we are operating in is far different than before. The game and rules have changed. One of our former POTU hauled us down the “sleazeball that wins” route. Never again
Maybe 20 years ago.For starters, it’s Auburn… a football school in a football state that will never care about basketball. Given the choice between coaching at INDIANA and just about anywhere else, most basketball people are going to choose the Cream and Crimson
I remembering thinking what a godsend Ron Felling was to have as an IU assistant coach. I wonder at what point things started heading south, so to speak, between Knight and Felling.Head coach at Eastern Illinois. He came to IU kinda packaged with Ron Felling. What a disaster for the program.
President Of The University I assume....Help me out with the POTU acronym. Also, my point is the environment we are operating in is far different than before. The game and rules have changed.
By game I am referring to the recruiting game and rules refer to NIL and the addition of the transfer portal. What rules?
Most of us already knew that. Or a good deal in the area. For Auburn's Bruce Pearl, 'Indiana Was My Dream Job'
Auburn coach Bruce Pearl has an enormous amount of respect for the "blueblood Indiana basketball program,'' and he would have loved to coach there. “Indiana was my dream job, it really was. I love everything about Indiana basketball. The timing was never right, I suppose. Nothing ever really aligned, but it would have been a dream come true to coach Indiana. That's how much I love and respect that program.''

I liked Marty Simmons as a player, until he got his nose out of joint and defected to another program.
the timing has always been bad it seems every hire we ever made. Many hated davis but he was not horrible we were still a good job. Sampson was an incredible coach and if we hired him now there would be zero issues at all. Nobody ever seems to have academic issues anymore wink wink at any college. Miller is the worst hire ever and proven because he cannot even win at rhode island. For Auburn's Bruce Pearl, 'Indiana Was My Dream Job'

Sampson would have hung #6 for us in the last 17 years he would have been here. Atleast challenging for it with 3-4 Final Fours during this time. I really believe this. He had found the formula by this time to win big. Wash State,Oklahoma and at IU he was set. Houston gets to have all the success now unfortunately.sampson was the best coach we ever had since knight period and yes slimy but now he is just normal in 2023. But woodson is not going to leave easily.
Your 5 bucks isn’t going to be enough. 😉100%. I would donate cash to get him.
I would push it to $100.😂Your 5 bucks isn’t going to be enough. 😉
IU hired a cheater once. Look what happened. Be better than that. No, cut from the same cloth as Sampson. Recruits well and gets the most out of his players, but doesn't run a clean enough program.

The racists in the IU administration found a reason to take the renegade down...the only school self-reporting its violations. At the time of his scalping, Sampson's last stand, the two-time national coach of the year had led his IU team to a 22-4 record. His first IU team led the Big Ten in three point shooting percentage and in three-point defense. His team was 15-0 in AH that season. He was quoted, "I came to coach Indiana basketball for one reason. I think we can win championships."IU hired a cheater once. Look what happened. Be better than that.

Ummm…is there such a thing these days? No, cut from the same cloth as Sampson. Recruits well and gets the most out of his players, but doesn't run a clean enough program.
Dakich was brought in to clean up the mess. You forgot bPart of that was to take out the trash. He did that. His reward, well, we know happened. I’ll bet the very things you liked about Knight You forgot about because Sampson won games. The racists in the IU administration found a reason to take the renegade down...the only school self-reporting its violations. One would think IU could have waited until the end of the season to avoid such record altering disruption. Following his unceremonious dismissal, Coach Dakich limped in with a 3-4 W-L record, his players psychologically spent, along with IU fans. Since that time, the second guessing has never stopped. Today, as Houston's coach since 2014 he currently has a 243-74 (.767) record with his teams labelled "perennial powerhouse" and as for Indiana, no one across the country really cares about them as nothing they do is distinguishable from all the other teams not labelled "perennial powerhouse". Hell, even PU with three straight #1 ratings and a fourth very possible next season, has to be considered e ause perennial powerhouse.
