Lol.I'm still not sure there's not a bigger reason as to the why, that's assuming his return
Yeah, but they'd probably spank this team to this day easily, that's what's sad
Hope so, but 2 things: 1) didn't TrillyD post about a mass exodus? He seems more reliable than the average internet guru. 2) I'm guessing the news the CMW is staying will hurt NIL donations overall. So, yes, we should have more to spread around if KW leaves as expected and XJ is gone, but I also bet we'll have fewer NIL dollars than last year to spread around. On the exodus and it’s just my dumb opinion: I doubt it. The season will end and emotions will calm down. The change narrative will start with McNeely and whoever we get in the portal. We are going to back up the NIL truck probably more than any other school would, and they’ll take all those hundreds of thousands of $ sitting there and stay.
Credit to the team for the win and let's keep winning but if you think we were beating anyone outside a Net 76 team with that play, you're kidding yourself. Any other competent team and we would have been down double digits at that time. Doesn't take away from this being a cave-in decision to keep CMW.Posting during a game many times makes someone look bad.
Minny and IU are the only B1G teams with no top 25 wins. I'll tune back in at this time next year.Credit to the team for the win and let's keep winning but if you think we were beating anyone outside a Net 76 team with that play, you're kidding yourself. I thought NIL would go down too, but it sounds like Cook is still on board, and he’s our top NIL donor. So it seems like less of a fall off is possible.Hope so, but 2 things: 1) didn't TrillyD post about a mass exodus? He seems more reliable than the average internet guru. 2) I'm guessing the news the CMW is staying will hurt NIL donations overall. What did Leal do as a Freshman?I agree with much of what you have to say but my expectation is that if Cupps is a starter next year it can only mean CMW really screwed the pooch on guards again. He is shooting 38% from the field and 67% from the line and averaging 1.2 apg. Muscle would cut down on being muscled on defense but jeez a nightmarish freshmen year statistically no matter how much we wish he would succeed.
Leal only played 60% of the minutes of Cupps but shot 56% from the field and averaged more assists. Not claiming Leal is an excellent player only pointing out that Cupps had a completely uninspiring freshman year statistically.
Does anyone know if his listed height of 6’2” is accurate. He looks smaller on Samsung.
He played on teams that had a lot of success in high school so this all must be far short of what he envisioned.
Yes, and normally this is why University boards defer to the AD on these athletics personnel decisions. We have the (mis)fortune of having a former IU BB player (an all-time great at that) and NBA coach on our board. So it's probably pretty easy for him to steer the other members who don't know anything about basketball. You do realize that the Board of Trustees main function is the overall university and the academics not athletics. I don't vote on the BOT members that alums elect based on their knowledge of sports. It is a nice added benefit if they have some knowledge of athletics but really a small part of the mission of the university.
Approximately the same as he did as a Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. That’s my point. What did Leal do as a Freshman?
Leal was nowhere near as strong as a freshman as Cupps is (even if Cupps himself needs to get stronger) and Leal did't play nearly the minutes Cupps is playing. Cupps will improve, probably quite a lot, by the time he is a senior.Approximately the same as he did as a Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. That’s my point.
To answer directly he averaged 1.6 ppg and 1 apg so ballpark Cupps but far less minutes. What did Leal do as a Freshman?
Cupps is a good kid and could stay as a backup. But I would think that most objective fans could see his limitations. His shooting is not even my main concern. His inability to push the pace, see the court, penetrate, and be a dynamic table setter are my concerns. Much of that is innate and can only be coached up to a certain extent. Maybe in the pre-portal days before this year to year free agent market, you would hope he could somehow become your starting pg. But in the portal age, you have to aggressively recruit above him and find your playmaking pg in the portal for next year. If you want to make a splash in the tournament, you need big time guards.Leal was nowhere near as strong as a freshman as Cupps is (even if Cupps himself needs to get stronger) and Leal did't play nearly the minutes Cupps is playing. Cupps will improve, probably quite a lot, by the time he is a senior.
When's football start?The next 12 months will be…..interesting.
Coach Cig is in fact an established college coach, I’m guessing there is a real chance IU becomes a football school now. Maybe Nebraska becomes hoops and IU becomes football since we have rubber stamped 13 loss seasons as the meh expectation. When's football start?
In year 3 we're on the NIT bubble . And the guy gets another year. Let that sink in.Coach Cig is in fact an established college coach, I’m guessing there is a real chance IU becomes a football school now. I have that’s why I cancelled my subscription to this board. I am paid until 10-April. I’ll rejoin premium when our basketball program again has meaningful hope.In year 3 we're on the NIT bubble . And the guy gets another year. Let that sink in.
Do what I'm going to do. Follow IU women's hoops , baseball, softball, and and wait for spring practice.I have that’s why I cancelled my subscription to this board. I am paid until 10-April. I’ll rejoin premium when our basketball program again has meaningful hope.
Dude, you're wasting your time... the poster is a certifiable whack job and an idiot beyond compare. What's a race hustler?
Goes to prove there's always a silver lining..He might be returning but I’m not.
Word on another IU board is that the Simon’s were pretty instrumental in wanting Woodson to return and have agreed to pony up more $$$ for NIL. Even with all that, adding likely 6-7 guys in the portal, and getting them all to fit, is a monumental task. And if Woodson’s explanation for this year’s struggles included the guys not being familiar with each other….wellI thought NIL would go down too, but it sounds like Cook is still on board, and he’s our top NIL donor. So it seems like less of a fall off is possible.
I like Trilly, but they haven’t been too good on intel with IU lately.
We’ll see. A lot of roster action is coming in the next few months. Anything could happen.
He is going to try and buy a team in the portal but that type of thing usually never ends well.In year 3 we're on the NIT bubble . And the guy gets another year. Let that sink in.
They can give him all the money they want it does not change the way he coaches.Word on another IU board is that the Simon’s were pretty instrumental in wanting Woodson to return and have agreed to pony up more $$$ for NIL. Whack job? If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what isDude, you're wasting your time... the poster is a certifiable whack job and an idiot beyond compare.
Sheesh. Sounds like tons of NIL. But like you said, will the random pieces fit?Word on another IU board is that the Simon’s were pretty instrumental in wanting Woodson to return and have agreed to pony up more $$$ for NIL. Wish granted.I love it. I hope it gets even worse.
Keep yappin man.No, I think you are full of it but hey we all get an opinion.
If so perhaps the BOT should have no input on the selection of coaches or the AD?You do realize that the Board of Trustees main function is the overall university and the academics not athletics. I don't vote on the BOT members that alums elect based on their knowledge of sports. Players have already made up their minds about returning next year and probably about their next destination. On the exodus and it’s just my dumb opinion: I doubt it.
