Will NYC elect a socialist mayor?

But we have politicians like this guy who thrive off of class warfare - with the core idea of his message, I think, being that wealth/income is a zero sum game….basically, that if we didn’t have any billionaires, the rest of us would be better off.

I’m sure they’re harnessing simple jealousy to capitalize on this, yes. But I think it goes deeper than that. I’d argue that they’ve propagated a flawed view of where money comes from and why so much of it ends up in some pockets rather than others.

We have terrible financial literacy in this country. And I’ll be honest: I’m not so sure it’s an accident.

Which reminds me, speaking of financial literacy, I recently got involved in a project that our local Junior Achievement is doing to help teach young people about financial literacy. They got a pretty big donation from Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife - and a whole lot of business owners and leaders around here have gotten involved too.

It not only deals with personal finance, it will offer a broader simulation that simulate how a market economy works. Kids will assume different roles within the “mini-economy” and role-play as buyers and sellers within those roles. It will feature banks, retail stores, manufacturers, food service, investments, builders, healthcare, utilities, education, etc.

The stated goal JA has — and I think it’s a good one — is to prevent kids from developing this resentful defeatism that we’re talking about…and show them how they can thrive in our economy.

I’m just trying to explain the motivations. But to your point, would more education solve human greed? Doubtful.

But if it could, why not solve for that?

Kids joining your program are probably self-selected to already be predisposed to capitalism, aren’t they?

His non answer is an answer.

You’ve pegged him. Nice job.
I don’t think so. There’s a VERY remote chance that he’s one of our best friends. He posted something a while back and then on our group chat our buddy posted almost the identical thing to me. I immediately texted Cortez who wasn’t convinced. I will say if it is I will laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and it’ll be an epic moment that I cannot possibly convey. He’s one of my all time favorite people in real life. A true character. Cul de sac cowboy

Actually, it’s the opposite. They’re targeting kids from low-income schools, organizations, and churches. They’re partnering with Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, EVSC, and church youth groups.

The kids predisposed to capitalism are likely getting these messages from home. Not that they’d turn them away…but they aren’t the ones the organizers are focusing on reaching.

This program has been done elsewhere to rave reviews. Glad to be a part of it.
