Why don't we ever play Notre Dame? They scared? We scared?

We tried REALLY hard to play them during Cam's era. They refused to come to Bloomington.

Mallory played them up there... Was a decent game for about 2 and 1/2 quarters... Should have been relatively close but Lou Holtz decided to run up the score by throwing the ball late in fourth when the game was already decided... I lost a lot of respect for Holtz after that move...

With that said, it would make zero sense for ND to schedule IU in football but once in a blue moon. They already play Purdue yearly. They play Michigan pretty regularly. And they rotate in Michigan St, Ohio St, Penn st and Northwestern quite often. That game would only benefit IU. ND would get nothing out of it. But they are supposed to play in 2030. That the blue moon and it's pretty cool.

Id equate it to the BBall series we had with them. It really only benefited ND.

I heard Fisch say on one of the coach's shows several years ago that IU was trying to have discussions with ND about playing. He said ND wouldn't even talk, so IU took the basketball series off the table.

They play Purdue September 14th. At Purdue. Unfortunately most of my close friends are engineers from Purdouche. They want me to go with them to the game. I might just go. Id get insanely black out drunk. Make them care for me and ruin their weekend on purpose.

No winners in that game. Anyway, they haven't played Purdue in quite awhile...it used to be an annual matchup before ND/ACC scheduling alliance.

ND has refused to play IU up until 2030 & 2031.

I ask this, outside of the outright competition why should IU with any sporting program do anything to enhance, advance and promote ND, win or lose? Teams such as Pitt, Cincy, L'ville, Ky. etc add a better opportunity for 2 heads up games for IUFB development and the Fightin Amish can go crack their smug knuckles.

Was at the ‘91 game. Probably 90+ degrees at Kickoff. IU had a good turnout at Notre Dame Stadium, which was pre-renovation, so just under 60k. A tough ticket for sure. Was also ND’s first game on their NBC deal. IU hung for a while, with both Vaughn Dunbar and Brett Law getting some good runs in. IIRC, Trent Green’s first pass of the season got ND on the board with a pick 6!! Irv Smith dragged 5-6 Hoosiers 20+ yards or so for a TD right in front of us.

In that ND game iirc, Holtz dialed up a fake punt that kind of broke our back. We did put a little scare in them but they made sure they put us in our place by the end.

I recall Dunbar ravaging the Irish D for a buck fifty+. The IU OL gave him just enough splits to shine. But yes Hoosier D needed a couple more horses starting and more adequate depth. Mallory had a good gameplan even if it was the only 1 he could employ and execute against ND.

I recall a play where the ND TE (Irv Smith) carried several IU defenders about 20 yards into the endzone. It's on youtube.

Back in the day, Purdue/ND was the football game & IU/ND was the basketball game. When CBM got us to a higher level of play, ND played us once at their place. Played tough until about a minute to go in the fist half.

I mean because Indiana paid $1 million dollars to get out of playing Louisville again. And the paid $10 million to CTA to get out of his contract. Of course the Indiana athletic department would be afraid to play Notre Dame.

We play them in 2030 and 2031 so I don't think there is any fear by this coaching staff.

I don’t disagree with you about the coaching staff. I doubt Tom Allen was too excited about buying out the Louisville game. At least I hoped he wasn’t. But it seems that all of the contracts are driven by victories with little regard to the quality of the product on the field.

Still can’t believe we cut and ran from Louisville.
