From what I can tell, much of what they are bragging about or discussing in the media is information they've discovered (and misinterpreted). Re the firings, et al. again, you have to see what is going on in the structure.
Hell, we just found out today, Musk isn't even a part of DOGE legally. They've structured it so that he is a presidential advisor. Plenty of very powerful people are not confirmed by the Senate--Chiefs of Staff, for one, who probably wield as much power as anyone in the White House (especially under Trump and Biden, I'd guess).
