Who'd running DOGE?

Biden, Biden, blah, blah, blah.

As I have been pointing out for several years now, Republicans no longer have the ability to discuss any political issue whatsoever without referring to Democrats.
For the last several years, who’s supposedly been in charge of this country? Most of the time they were referred to in a negative connotation

What's you opinion of the Appointments Clause?

There are 1,300 positions in the Executive branch that require Senate confirmation. Most all with much lower level of power than whomever is supposedly running DOGE.
I've got no experience with it. I'd have to read the briefs.

I'm not sure we really know what DOGE has done and what it has not done (some of these actions are described as if they've been taken by Musk, but Musk might be making recommendations, followed by Prez orders, for example) and what the internal structure is, where it gets its funding, etc. I would imagine that will drive the decision.

It's quite obvious what DOGE is doing. Hell they setup their own .gov website bragging daily about what they've done. It's quite clear to any honest observation that their power supercedes even cabinet level positions. Forget the hundreds of other Senate confirmed positions that fall under cabinet secretaries.

What's the point of the Senate bothering with confirmations of anyone? Definitely not 1,300 people that are supposedly empowered to run the executive branch with Senate consent.....If all the actual power resides in a shadow group of nameless grim reapers?

twenty, Trump brags about shit ALL THE TIME that he does not do.

From what I can tell, much of what they are bragging about or discussing in the media is information they've discovered (and misinterpreted). Re the firings, et al. again, you have to see what is going on in the structure.

Hell, we just found out today, Musk isn't even a part of DOGE legally. They've structured it so that he is a presidential advisor. Plenty of very powerful people are not confirmed by the Senate--Chiefs of Staff, for one, who probably wield as much power as anyone in the White House (especially under Trump and Biden, I'd guess).

Here's an example. Some would say DOGE "did" this. In a certain sense, they would be right. But in a legal sense, I think a court would find the actor was actually the head of the EPA:

DOGE now reviews every single hiring action in every agency of the govt. That's by EO. Every agency must have a DOGE office in place, within the agency. That's a lot of people in a lot of agencies. That's not the WH COS.

And who runs DOGE? Nobody knows I guess.

Reviews. Doesn't hire. There's a difference there.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with the jurisprudence around the Appt Clause, though.

But I've now scrolled through DOGE brag tweets. Every one I've seen so far (I didn't scroll past more than 10 or so) says they "in partnership with [name of dept. and Senate approved official]" have "worked together to fix" or "to end." A generous reader would interpret that as DOGE did the diggging and provided the info, and the cabinet head acted.

I'm amazed how many people are so eager to return to the spoils system of running govt. Just another sign of a decaying society

What network state are you considering? MCM is already claiming the deep South. I'm heading for New (Old) England.

More normal shit....

Apologies in advance as I haven’t read through the posts in this thread.

Has DOGE officially been approved for funding by Congress? I’m sure it would be regardless. But if they haven’t how can they have such power until approved?

What specific power are you referring to? That’s the crux of a lot of this debate.

I read Steve Davis is there at doge. He’s the guy Musk relies on for cutting costs at his companies, negotiating vendor deals, supposed to be uber talented at streamlining shit

And still firing the wrong people.

If we are lucky, they will fire the President and he signs off without noticing....

Fair question. So I suppose to cut funding from other departments and hire and fire. I’m not giving this a lot of thought right now, heading into the gym.

At least Republicans are slightly more transparent. We have no idea who was actually in charge before. Not just performing audits.

You mean the transparency that they keep getting wrong. Is wrong transparency good transparency?

Congrats on being the tallest midget (I'm sure Trump has signed and EO to change the name back from little person).

If you're asking whether or not it is better to be wrong and transparent about what you are doing or being opaque or disingenuous about what you are doing while assuring everyone that everything is OK, I'll go with the former.

It’s a feature, not a bug. They’re moving extemely quickly and it’s a monumental task, which means they’ll get stuff wrong. I’m glad they are fixing their mistakes quickly when they make them.

Reminds me I want to know who has been running the country the last four years. It sure hasn't been Biden.

You mean like the Democrats have done to every Federal agency over the past 40+ years? The District of Columbia has voted more than 80% plus Democrat in every Presidential election since 1976... Where do you think most of that electorate works?

Trump would have to fire and replace close to 90% of the Federal workforce to even come close to getting his people running things... That's not happening no matter how much some of us might hope to see it...

The truth is we’re teaching a lot of the Dems on this board some hard lessons. They don’t want to grow up. But now they have to. This is Father fathering

Federal workers are quite literally what flipped Virginia from Red to Blue on the national level.

Democrats know damn well the political makeup of who staffs these agencies. They figured it was a power base and a shadow opposition they could maintain through pesky bumps in the road like Republican Presidencies.

It’s why a President exerting control over these agencies is causing an immune response.

The majority of federal government workers do not work in DC. You don't honestly think that most federal government workers are Democrats do you? That's certainly not even close to the truth within DoD and they're getting fired too.

One of our funny stories. My edibles buddy was a real bad drunk. Crazy crazy shit. So we were all in New Orleans. Whole friend crew at dinner and he looked across to the table to our lifelong friend and goes “enjoy me now. Because I’ll be slappin you later.” The notion that we even enjoyed him then 😀

It is true. The civil service is corrupted and it gets even worse the more senior the employee. GS-13 and above is a damn horror show.
