What Should Archie Do

and this is how one earns 0 likes in 1,119 tries. luckily IU still shoots threes better than you post.
On one hand, I almost want to give him a “like” just to reward his persistence, but on the other hand, I want to see how long the streak of posting without a like goes.

Devonte, Juwan and Deron...everyone else has only played college basketball for Archie.
Archie decided he wanted every player to be a member of his team in his program.

These are Archie’s guys...this is Archie’s team...Archie is ruining the IU mens basketball program.
Does anyone remember Devon Dumes? Tijan Jobe? Remember sweating over whether some Emanuel would commit?
That’s the reason you don’t throw away the team.

This team continues to regress and many would say today was a historically bad performance for an IU BB team so what should Archie do-

1j In the Samurai tradition his only course of action would be harakiri
2) In the Prussian tradition his only option would be to swallow a bullet
3) in more current tradition he would tender his resignation, announce his retirement from BB, and move to a cabin deep in the woods living off grid.

This was truly a bad performance.
Make it a poll, I'll vote #3

Miller's offense is not based on getting open shots. Last year, I could see that as a problem, but now it has enabled every coach in the Big Ten to easily contain IU. He has to change it. It is too easy to defend.

He is not getting full effort or good execution on a regular basis. That also means practices aren't likely very hard. Some of the injury thing is simply a bad stroke of luck but he also isn't playing healthy players who give effort. He has/should have ensured that you don't play if you don't execute and give effort. At this point it is simply on him for letting it get this far.

I don't see Miller preparing for the future by trying to build up his young guys. Unfortunately, this will resonate next year when Moore and Forrester and Anderson are being asked to do more. That is a bad sign. Someone should remind him that Fitzner will not be here next year and the guy simply hasn't given IU anything but maybe a few times moving his feet defensively. If he doesn't have anyone younger who can do that by now then whoever recruited the younger guys needs to be let go. You can't win with stupid basketball players.

The guys on the team who don't care about winning must be benched. Practice should be turned into battles and contests of survival. They are going to lose anyway, might as well start building for next year. I would pound it into their heads that they will be the best defensive team here on out or they will sit. Or, just kick guys off the team and go get walk on s at the HPER. Miller needs to show the fans that he cares to be there too.

Just hire Steve Alford. Hes not great but he will probably win 20 games and at least he played here.

I just want to be above average again. Being Elite doesnt even register.
At this point, that makes a ton of sense. I hate to admit it, but I think you are very correct in that Alford would restore consistent decentness at the very least and may do better than he has elsewhere. I think it's safe to say he'd do way better here than Iowa … is that a bad place in comparison to now?

This is correct Millers offense is based on getting turnovers and generating transition baskets, educate yourself and go watch some film of Dayton in the NCAA tourney, if you think Archie is going to run a multiple screen/motion offense to get good looks at the basket you will be disappointed.

What he should do? Bench people.

He mentioned in the post game presser there needs to be drastic changes. It has to start with him. Guys aren't giving you want you want, sit their ass. Period.

I was all in favor of this after our 3rd or 4th consecutive loss. But to do it now would be pointless...at least as far as salvaging this season is concerned. It’s done. If he wants to make some drastic moves with an eye towards next season, so be it.

Which would you rather have a team that focuses on transition or motion?

I would take motion over transition every time. Why? You can use motion on every possession (although why would you pass us an easy transition opportunity); what % of the time can you effectively use transition? If the other team beats you down the court and sets up on D you don't have a good chance of success.

Why? The guy adds more to this board than most IU fans do.
I don't have to agree with what someone says on this board to feel he/she belongs here. However, I do expect posters to treat each other respectfully and to attack their opinions if they feel a need to do so and not attack them personally.

Langford might go 11 - 30 .
Scouts figured him out quick.
Take his right hand away..Wall him off on drives.
Let him shoot..
Romeo's never adjusted ..Like keep moving cutting consistently to the rim.
He just stands on the perimeter.

1985 - at Illinois.

RMK started Uwe and 4 freshmen and played 2 others, scoring 12 points in the first half. Alford and all the other regulars never played a second.

Would love to see a repeat on Tuesday.

I remember him doing something similar in the early 90s. I believe it was at Minnesota.

It was and I think a game at Michigan too
Archie has had multiple chances to bench some players and start or at the very least start some different players in the second half of a game. It aint happening.

I was having this argument on another board but I think Romeo is a Noah Vonleh type of player who is basically just going through the motions until he can go pro.

Additionally, and this was an opinion that was really unpopular, but I think he is also at least partially culpable in the breakdown of the team. My circumstantial evidence? For starters, Justin Smith and his Dad have caught quite a bit of grief on the forums for Justin appearing to not be going 100% all of the time and continuing to shoot when the ball was not going in. Additionally his Dad has a Twitter problem. Well, I would submit that Romeo has the same type of on court issues but he just happens to be a better player at finishing at the rim than Justin Smith. He also has an entourage with a Twitter problem as his videographer was complaining about Phinisee getting the last shot against Butler and that Archie was not featuring him enough. IIRC, that was the first player to have someone go on Twitter complaining they were not getting theirs. Additionally, there were comments that Romeo's Dad made about Romeo's recruitment by Calipari that seem to indicate the Langford may be just a bit influenced by how much he is utilized and if he is not getting his, he bad mouths the coach to his inner circle.

This will not be popular but part of what Miller should do when he is removing guys at the end of the year is spend a bunch of time talking Langford up to NBA scouts. It is a win/win. Langford gets what he wants and Miller gets to move on from a kid who may be a "great kid" but a not so great kid to be a teammate with.

Sounds like Romeo would have been perfect in Louisvile, but you know what Pitino would have handled that a lot better than Archie. Pitino/Calipari/K they will chew out a one and done all the time, have u seen Archie do this to Romeo?

I'm with you. Romeo is just a quiet kid. He doesn't have that killer instinct yet to go with his talent. He has not been the real problem. I would say game schemes to get him shots would be a start. It seems like when Romeo scores he just makes a driving play or a jump shot. Alford scored a lot of his points because there was a scheme to get him shots which were open.

If Romeo moved without the ball...just a third of the movement...of say an Alford, Cheaney,Guyton (who created a lot on his own as well)...he'd be at 25ppg player...

Yep - we got beat by 50. 1994 season.

Didn’t start out with everyone benched. But it wasn’t long until the game when he pulled guys. Really bad day.
The 85 team was 13-5 For second in BIG10 a 3 seed. promptly falling to Cleveland State in first round.

The conclusion frm the posts in this thread must be that the old adage doesn’t apply to Archie ( it did apply to RMK) namely-He will beat you with his players and then beat you with your players.

Start Damezi, Race, Moore, Blackmon, Durham. Against Purdue for the first 5 minutes, absolutely embarrass the starters, keep it close then slowly work in Romeo, Juwan and Deron
Think Blackmon is our best distance shooter. Has not had chance to show it. Do not know anything about the rest of his game.

As a Coach, you can't be someone you are not. You can't try to be everyone's best friend for half the season so you don't piss your players off, and then suddenly become a ranting maniac who screams at players about everything. You also have to know what players can handle certain approaches. You may have several players who have a high Basketball IQ who immediately realize when they have made a mistake and know how to correct it. You can merely talk to those guys and reinforce the point. There are other guys who don't get it and need to have someone in their face to make the point. You can't treat every player the same way.

I'm seeing a disconnect between the team and the Coach. I don't know if they disrespect Miller generally and don't buy in, or if they reached a point where they have tuned him out because nothing he wants them to do seems to work. The thing that bothers me is the seeming lack of enthusiasm and effort from the players. When you get to this point, you would think that you would have the self motivation to put out your best effort regardless of what you think of the Coach, For many of you college will be your last chance to play organized basketball and four years goes past very quickly. There is no reason not to be motivated.

Start those five and they'll be 15 down in the first eight minutes.

Hold it...there were extenuating circumstances.

The geniuses in the B1G office didnt do us any favors with the schedule. We played at Northwestern on Thursday night, at Minnesota Sunday afternoon, then home v. Illinois Tuesday night.

We won at Northwestern, then, when we got down early up in the Barn, BK pulled most starters and we got smoked. 2 nights later we beat Illinois.

To this day, no one talks about the crap scheduling, nor the strategy employed, only that BK and IU lost by 50
