Still trying to figure out all the nuances. I never see any posts from a “moderator”
On the sports boards and the ones I see on the WC from a “moderator”
Are some of the most argumentative here. What is the point? Who are the moderators and how are they appointed? What are they actually moderating??

Honestly, very little. This forum is mostly a free-for-all, and we only step in if someone reports a post and it appears said post is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the line. There are some exceptions, like the Russia-Ukraine thread, which is actively moderated as an experiment (successful so far, I might add) into whether or not we have the capability of carrying on a respectful adult conversation here.

23 years of history on the cooler is very deep. There are moderators and then there are really moderators. Some guys may have forum specific moderator privileges and others may be universal. In the old days you could be banned today not so much. Good luck. History and Politics is not privileged with consensus.

appreciate the info... Honestly you are the moderator I see as the most argumentative so that was why I was curious... LOL

If you need some guide rails here..
Suggesting that a specific Dem here might perform fellatio is out of bounds. That one is like the rumble strip on the side of the highway. :)

Then there was the hypocritical dick move on the Jan 6 hearing s "serious" thread. What a double standard crock.

what about certain Republican?? Or is it ok to suggest someone perform an anatomic impossibility on themselves? Or is cunnilingus instead outlawed?? Please help!!!!!

"moderator" is a politically correct name for "censor".

absent someone making threats against someone else, the last thing a political forum needs is a censor.

and this comes from probably the most personally attacked poster on the forum, as the puppeteers of both parties' sock puppets hate much of what i post , yet can't credibly dispute what i post, so the puppets just go personal attack all the time as no doubt that's what they are coached to do when they have nothing else.

on a side note, congrats to McM66 for his 60 plus posts in 24 hrs.

no doubt his puppeteer should be proud of the effort.

if he has no puppeteer, then that would be really pathetic, rather than just basically dishonest.

and for context, i consider all those here not representing only themselves, as dishonest.

Happy to trigger you. You on leave from the ward? But yes I think you're right. Time for a break

Winner I think you are way out in left field sometimes, but you are a long way from being my most disliked poster! I only have one poster I can’t stand! And it’s not goat or hickory.

Most personally attacked? We should compare receipts.

That thread was beyond redemption. That type of moderation needs to happen more often. Regardless, don't blame Goat. It was locked at my request.

censorship isn't something a political forum needs any of, and not you nor anyone else needs to be crying to mommy that a thread needs to be locked because you want it so.

if you can't defend yourself, stay away from the fight.

you can't have free speech and actual debate, without putting up with the sht as well.

there is literally no way to do that.

and while i get personally attacked as much as anyone, and from both sides no less, i'm not sure there isn't too little and too tame of personal attacking going on on political forums.

i see a lot of dishonest posts here from beyond hypocritical posters who lack honesty, and morals and ethics as well, too much of the time..

not that i don't agree with them on a lot of things, but no doubt we all agree with many things the totally dishonest and low ethics also believe in.

many rap themselves in the flag and/or the bible, while constantly lobbying against what the flag stands for, and what Christ lobbied for.

if someone is a lying total and complete POS, or backs politicians who are, there shouldn't be any restraints on calling them out for who they are, or who or what they are defending or promoting.

perhaps another form of "woke", is those who repress really calling people out for what they are, and thinking civility is not doing so, when maybe sometimes real "civility" precisely IS doing so..

that said, dishonest, immoral, and unethical, perhaps have hard to define boundaries.

perhaps, less honest, less moral, less ethical, would be more appropriate.

that said, sometimes "more appropriate" doesn't really tell the tale, and is just the "civility woke" route.

perhaps there's too little calling people out, not too much.

and like i said, if you can't stand up for yourself and your beliefs and stances, stay away from the fight.

Oh no Lucy. It’s me, isn’t it? Not me. Please not me.

I agree with much of this.

But I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that you can’t freely debate things without resorting to personal attacks and ad hominem arguments. It’s simply not true.

Go to any courtroom anywhere in the United States on any given day. It is rare (not unheard of) for lawyers to personally attack their opponent (and if they do, they usually lose). And they have big stakes.

Go to most universities. Debate the hottest topics imaginable. I personally can recall maybe one time someone called someone out for “who” or “what” they were.

In my mind, ad hominem attacks are lazy substitutes for real argument about ideas. Arguing ideas with nuance is difficult, and you might learn something, and you might be wrong. It’s risky.

Ad hominem is easy and you learn nothing.

BS... a moderator would be more like a umpire/referee.

I have never and never will delete a post based on the opinion of the poster. I have deleted posts because I know a stupid post thrown into the middle of a decent thread is gonna lead it astray.

I think the only post that I've ever deleted of yours is one that pasted an entire article. While I may not agree with your posts you certainly have the right to post them and you do it in a civil manner.

There’s one Mod that sneaks in and deletes posts because of opinion‘s. It’s not goat or Jim.
