It's why I love this board hoot and why I choose to interact with it they way I do. I don't bring strong opinions (except as it relates to mature women and @mcmurtry66 ) I bring a somewhat open mind. AS open as I can be at near 50.

I'm a boomer, jackhole. lol And we live a helluva lot more conservatively than my millennial daughter and son-in-law.Also I'll say in the example I mentioned above with the furnace... But also saw this same thing from a mother of an ex girlfriend. The parents came from very conformable upbringing... The grandparents in both cases were fairly well off but the parents blew it all and were still attempting to live lifestyles they were long used to. To the point they couldn't cover basic living costs without hitting up their kids in their early 20s for money. Fkn boomers.

Some of it’s really good. Kendrick, Caamp, Zack Bryan…all so good.
The pop is undeniably bad. Putrid. God awful.
Saw Caamp at Bluebird for the first time in March 2019. From there they became festival favorites. Saw them at Shakey Knees and then Forecastle. Hung out w their parents backstage at Forecastle...they were just flabbergasted by the success.
Great band and good dudes...despite the fact they're kinda Buckeyes. 😄
It sure is expensive to help your kids find interests. I would say my biggest expense to my parents was the trumpet they bought me in 7th grade. I paid for my own colleges perhaps they got off cheap.

I went by the place where I played youth soccer. Had like two full size fields and a bunch of kiddie field when I was young. Freaking complex now with a turf field to boot.
But to pay for that they now let everybody on a team and cash your check. I’m not sure that’s better.
Where I grew up, we beat up kids who said the word soccer.
Ridiculous with the obesity in this country. But again, you build all this super fancy shit and then have to worry about people ****ing it up. When i was young the fields sucked and you were happy they had lines on them.
But they were NEVER locked.

Parents bought me a trombone in 5th grade.
Was fully qualified, (1) Long arms, (2) Strong lips, (3) and most importantly a father who could afford to buy a trombone.
Never was very good. In tryouts for band seating, last chair was automatically assigned to me.
Took up playing sports in 7th Grade and retired from show business.
The trombone was finally pawned by my son without me knowing it when he was in High School. Am sure he used the money to further his academic pursuits 🐱.
I know we spoiled our daughter but she's never acted spoiled so we still spoil her. .... especially her two kids.

Someone just paid 20k for a hundred acres here. Another old timer turned down a 16k offer.

Probably my all time most proud moment with my son was in grade school. We were called to school. When we got to the Principal’s office, the parents of a mentally challenged student was there and they had tears in their eyes. My first thought was “oh no!” Turns they asked to meet us and thank us. Our son kind of adopted their son and included him with the activities my son and his friends where involved in. I guess if anyone made fun of their son, our son also intervened. Spoiled or not he had a good heart.
Three different farm families. And yes they bought too much crazy expensive land.
We put our younger daughter on a horse when she was six years old.

Yes they do. If you do a 1031 exchange only for tax purposes, IMO it’s not smart. It’s just like buying a $300,000 Combine in December to save taxes when you didn’t need the new combine and it’s not going to generate $1 more in profit.
If you truly want land to replace what your selling then a 1031 makes sense. But overpaying never makes sense to me.
