We have a verdict -- Guilty on ALL counts

Biden will gain votes from independents and more Dems will likely come out to vote. I'll actually predict more Rs won't vote or will throw it away on a 3rd party candidate because they know this ends badly for them no matter what. Generally, I just don't think the country is going to standby and let a now convicted felon into the WH. Biden's campaign's message could just solely be this, and it will work.
Nonsense

Crazy. Truly uncharted territory for America. Trump will likely be in Rikers come November 5. Really destructive actions from the the Biden admin to Bragg to Merchan on down to the jurors. Shameful behavior that tears at the national fabric and lowers our esteem in the world.

Part of what Merchan takes into account when sentencing is contrition/ remorse right? Trump can't really show remorse because he didn't do anything wrong and it would hurt him politically. But he risks a tougher sentence if he doesn't. Catch 22.

One thing I think we can be sure of. There will be prison time and Merchan will not issue a stay pending appeal. He is a compromised, sad little man. He knows he's committed numerous acts of reversible error in this case. He just doesn't care. I've spoken at length in recent year about how progressives will be the death of the American judicial system. If today is not the culmination of that it's a major chapter along the way. We should all be concerned for our Justice system.
It's nice to be reminded that, of all the many things you're the foremost expert in, criminal procedure remains top of the list.

Immunity is coming. They already know that. Again, the whole point was to get a conviction for campaign ads.

I just don't see how Americans care that much about this at all. The average voter is, frankly, stupid. And selfish.

Rikers on Election Day? What utter nonsense. Merchan isn’t going to impose a prison sentence and, even if he did, Trump would be out on bail pending appeal.

Agree, but then there would be a chance we'd miss the only really great part of this whole drama: the judge instructing the bailiff to take Trump into custody. :D
More subtlely, is a convicted felon permitted to leave the state under New York law?

Oh, I know, he can still campaign remotely, but how is he going to be able to play golf at the best courses if he can't leave New York?

If he’s smart he’ll urge peace and calm. Tell everyone to voice their displeasure in November.

But he’s not smart.
Wow. Statesmanship from Hoopsdoc.

If you guys would only try harder to sound like this instead of Crayfish it would be better.

You haven't paid much attention to Merchan's conduct in this trial. He will definitely impose a jail sentence. He didn't come all this way not to.

From a political perspective. I think the Democrat's have miscalculated. I think this decision sours the voters view of Democrats far more than it does of Trump. Rightfully so. Politicians frequently like to make themselves out to be martyrs but in this case Trump is a true martyr, that's powerful. And the "threat to Democracy" line just isn't going to work anymore after this.

He'll make sure Trump's in jail during the Republican National Convention.

You are just saying that. You don't know.

They’re trying REALLY hard to make Trump, of all people, a sympathetic figure.

Tucker is 100% correct here. The real worry is not the verdict. The worry is what happens when Trump is still leading in the polls 2-3 months from now? What's their next move?

How can you deny that business records of the Trump Organization were falsified ?

Oh, I forgot -- here's how:

ignorance-bliss.gif

Once you admit that business records were falsified, all bets were off on the other parts of the charges.

No he's not. The goal was always to get a guilty verdict to run campaign ads on. This will 100% be reversed on appeal. Even all the Dems know that.
You keep saying this "100% reversed on appeal" line as if it's a done deal. But there were 2 lawyers and a man that said his main source of news is Truth Social (which Trump owns) all on the jury and he was found unanimously guilty. Mere hours after the jury requested to rehear Pecker's testimony, which basically corraborated what Cohen would testify to weeks later...

You keep acting as if this is all made up...

But in 2018 when Michael Cohen plead guilty to the charges against him, he went to jail.

Now who was POTUS in 2018? And who was in charge of the DOJ and in charge of prosecuting the case vs Cohen...

Now what was Trump's main defense during this just concluded trial? That the payments to Cohen were NOT a reimbursement, but rather payment for legal services. That's what Blanche maintained ever since his opening statement and all thru the trial...

But look at what the DOJ said (Trump's DOJ) in 2018 when they announced Cohen's plea and sentence to prison...

"Between 2012 and 2016, COHEN concealed more than $4 million in personal income from the Internal Revenue Service, avoiding more than $1.3 million in income tax. COHEN also made false statements to a federally insured financial institution to obtain a $500,000 home equity loan."

" Finally, in 2016, COHEN made or caused two separate payments to women to ensure that they did not publicly disclose their alleged affairs with a presidential candidate in advance of the election. In one instance, COHEN caused American Media, Inc. (“AMI”), which was identified in previous court filings as “Corporation-1,” to make a $150,000 payment to one woman; in the other, COHEN made a $130,000 payment to another woman through an LLC he incorporated for the purpose of making the payment. COHEN was reimbursed for the latter payment in monthly installments disguised as payments for legal services performed pursuant to a retainer, when in fact no such retainer existed. COHEN made or caused both of these payments in order to influence the 2016 election and did so in coordination with one or more members of the campaign."
Can you see that the DOJ in announcing Cohen's plea and sentence in 2018 basically undermined the current claim of Trump's team that there was NO REIMBURSEMENT?

You're free to believe whatever you want and there is no realistic expectation on my part to change your mind. But just know that in order to believe that Trump is "innocent" you have to believe that Trump was somehow totally unaware of actions being taken by Cohen to keep damaging info that could hurt Trump's campaign from being public knowledge. And that Cohen was willing to go to prison for his role in that conspiracy, that Trump was unaware of...

So when Trump made all of those comments back then about knowing Cohen "wouldn't flip", what exactly do you think the "totally innocent" Trump was saying Cohen wouldn't flip on?

Trump is a “true martyr?” Dude. You’ve been thoroughly brainwashed.

And he will NOT be sentenced to jail on 7/11.

Nothing to do with what would be appealable. Appeals won’t turn on facts etc. rather on law. Instructions etc

I think the real worry is that Democrats have now broken glass that can't be put back together. Biden is now running so that him and his son can avoid indictment. In Hunter's case, further indictments. The legal system has essentially become forum shopping. Indicting your political opponent if you can get a favorable jurisdiction and a creative and ethically challenged prosecutor will be normalized.

And, remember, in this case, Trump's lawyers were not Alina Hubbahubba or Rudy Fumbliani or Sydney "Kracken" Animalskins. Trump's lawyers in this case were much better than Trump's other lawyers.

Despite that talent, Trump still lost.
