UCLA pursuing Tino Sunseri for its OC job

I have a sneaking feeling that Tayvon Jackson will go into the portal after the playoff game follows him to UCLA. Yesterday Cignetti did not mention Jackson's name when talking about the younger QBs and that he would sign a portal QB.
Let's give thanks to the 4-star QB that flipped from Arizona to UCLA last night. I am glad my "seeking feeling" was wrong.

This was expected. I'd be surprised if Shanahan left for another OC job, though. We still have our OC and our DC, which is just fine with me, but both will eventually be targeted for HC jobs. Success is a double edge sword which allows you to bring in replacement talent since it's now an appealing place to coach.

Tino will have some transitioning success simply because of the poor offensive showing UCLA suffered this past season. Still possible he wakes up during 2k25 and realize he made a bad chessboard move.

Bring in Mike Neu as an analyst for the CFP and let Cig/Shanahan get a feel for fit. I trust coach to identify his guy, but I admittedly like the background and roots of Neu as a potential QB coach. Hate to see Tino go, but will be fine if he’s the only one taking the leap

It was reported yesterday that ALL assistant coaches were signed to new multi year contracts, except Tito.

Not surprising he bolts, today's coaching world is money driven
Nothing wrong with it since he probably wants to be a HC someday. He was making about the same money as their fired OC so it wasn't money driven. IU can match about any competitive salary. I read here in a different post there is a connection with Foster when Foster was a RB for the Carolina Panthers. He wanted to be an OC and Shanahan wasn't leaving is my guess.

He's likely not getting paid much more to coach at UCLA than he would at Indiana, if paid more at all. This is a job promotion for him to actual dial up the offense and call plays. Definitely a resume builder.
Yes step up is correct but definitely money driven

Cost of Living 👏 👏. 👏 👏 👏
I've always wondered if the COL and environment of thousands of homeless people in the LA area, even bothers coaching staffs of college and professional teams in Los Angeles. That would be like a different world to them I'm sure.

Definitely not money driven. He's set to make fractionally more than he would have been at IU (before the salary pool doubled) but in an area of the country where the cost of living is nearly tripled. This is nothing more than a resume building move. He was a position coach at IU, he 's in full control of the offense at UCLA.

He’ll buy a big house in Pasadena and live a very nice life far away from the grittiness of broader LA.

UCLA is in Westwood surrounded by some of the most affluent neighborhoods in the country (Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood). Unless he wants to drive an hour+ each way to work every day, his rent/mortgage is going to be pricey.

I think you misjudge the per capita rate of homelessness in Southern Indiana. Bloomington is pretty bad, but down in Evansville we are one of the top 2 or 3 homeless populations per 100k people. You may not notice it, but homelessness is a problem right here in the heartland.

I’m a little surprised that Sunseri is still going to be with the team in the playoffs given that he’s leaving to join the staff of another team in the same conference. That doesn’t sit well with me…
Right, but there's deep friendship between CCC & Tino.

I think there's complete trust with Tino to take his job seriously until it's time to move on. CCC and Tino's father Sal go all the way back to Pittsburgh as kids and coached together at Bama under Saban. He understands the game and the ladder to climb...would have had to have Cig's full blessing if he's allowed to ride this out.

And if Foster doesn't get his sh!t together, Tino's fresh paint won't have time to dry! I don't know how smart this move really is...

He might be considered for "next man up" if his O is doing well... Either way he won't have any trouble finding a job as "a QB whisperer" if things go south out there... I'm guessing he just felt that at his age it was time to take the leap and bet on himself...

All the Best to him and his family (except for anything related to competing with INDIANA)... I hope they win big (except when they play us)... Maybe he can help shore up our strength of schedule out at that end...

Really, why a bad move? UCLA actually showed some improvement and played well in a few games. It’s a major program and he gets to be an OC in a premiere conference. Foster should be able to bring in some California talent, so it’s not a bad move in my estimation. If he’s good it’ll show.
