UCLA pursuing Tino Sunseri for its OC job

I have a sneaking feeling that Tayvon Jackson will go into the portal after the playoff game follows him to UCLA. Yesterday Cignetti did not mention Jackson's name when talking about the younger QBs and that he would sign a portal QB.
The other two QB's names were brought up only because Cignetti was asked a question as to why he didn't bring in a Freshman QB. He basically said they didn't need a freshman QB because they had two young developmental QB's in Mendoza and Cherry. I don't believe Cig views Jackson as a developmental prospect at this stage.

I could definitely see this happening,we play UCLA at our place next year, could make for an interesting game.

I can easily see Jackson going to Ucla because he’d be closer to TJD and would get all that free access to Warrior NBA games and stuff!

Now the big question is, who should IU bring in to replace Sunseri???

I nominate Mike Neu. Former and recently fired Ball State head coach who coached Drew Brees in New Orleans. Won MAC POY in the 90's as a QB at Ball State and is an Indianapolis native.

Dolson has given Cignetti the same assistant coaching budget as Ryan Day over at Ohio State has. With that kind of 💰, attracting Tino's replacement shouldn't be too hard...
They kept a WR coach from going to a OC position last year. (Also promoted him with the title co-OC, which I assume CCC would do)

Seems like the logical step for Sunseri. He is now their OC with sole play calling duties. Not sure how big of a bump in pay but the title alone is why position coaches do this. It’s a resume builder.
UCLA actually improved as the season wore on. I’m confident that Cig will find a solid QB coach. The great news is that is the only guy we lost. We locked up the other staff into new deals and Shanahan stays.

I hope not. I still have high hopes for him.

I heard the interview yesterday.

Shane Montgomery is also a possible name to keep an eye out on. Was JMU's previous QB coach prior to Sunseri as well as OC. Was OC/QB coach for Terry Hoeppner at Miami OH (Roethlisberger) and was named Hep's replacement when he took the IU job. Is currently the interim HC at UMass after Don Brown was fired a few weeks ago.

That move doesn’t make much sense for Sunseri. Deshaun Foster is an awful coach and the cost of living in LA is ridiculously high. With the new assistant coach salary pool Sunseri can get a huge raise where he is.
Here's what I don't understand about Sunseri taking the UCLA OC job? UCLA could've hired someone from the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Georgia Bulldogs, the Florida Gators, LSU, Texas, Penn State, etc & instead, they want a coach from IU? Why? Is it easier to steal a coach from IU than it is from a major FB program?

There may be some truth to poaching a non-brand good coach, however, I see Coach Sunseri's hire as another feather in our(CCC) cap.

IU had the second highest scoring offense in the country and led the nation in touchdowns scored.

Why do you think losing a coach is a feather in IUs cap?
When other programs see your assistants as viable, it means your head coach has a good staff. Same thing when Allen was here. Schools went after DeBoer and Wommack for head coaching jobs. It’s a “feather” in the sense that it shows that the head coaching jobs had guys that other schools want. A testament to the coach in finding great support staff.
The difference this time is that Cig’s entire success doesn’t hinge solely on guys around him where I feel like Allen’s success was not necessarily due to him in the head role.

Disappointed but not shocked. Mostly concerned about Tino luring IU players to UCLA through the portal, or taking recruits IU is targeting (high school or portal). I don’t understand letting him stay on through the CFP, but completely trust Cigs knows how to handle this. Good luck Tino and thanks for helping IU have an amazing season.

Can’t believe they fired bienemy after one year. He was the OC at KC just a couple of years ago.
I'm concerned about these very same things, too.

Then you would understand that Jackson not being named is a nothing burger.
In your opinion.

Not unreasonable to wonder if he might get poached by the guy who's been coaching him. And if Cig had an inkling of that he probably wouldn't name him in his presser, why would he?

Thinking more on it. I think if Cig thought he would poach, Sunseri wouldn't still be coaching here.

It's tough, we need Sunseri to help recruiting now, but he needs to work for UCLA on that. I'd tell him best wishes but go to work for UCLA. Same as Cig did when he came here. Can't serve two masters.

Tayven is much more married to IU than he is Tino. I don’t doubt Tayven and Tino have a great relationship but Tayven was here before Tino.

I have a strong feeling that Juju Lewis is going to opt out of his NLI at Colorado and join Tino in Westwood where he gets to start from day 1.

Did everyone get a raise?
