Tucker DeVries

And hoping that the shoulder repair didn't screw up his shot.
So it was his shooting shoulder I take it. If it was then he was right in sitting out the rest of the season. Coming back too soon without proper rehab would have messed up his shot.

TD is going to be good, but is a different style of player. Knecht is a big time athlete with big time hops.
Yeah, Knecht seemed "bouncier" but I don't think it's a bad comparison in "style of play". Looks to be a great shooter who can also drive the ball. Just looks like a good all around game. Really good piece to build around.

Not sure that's true. What if TKR misses his little jump hook in West Laffy, and we win there? And then IU holds on to beat either Maryland or Michigan? 12-8, sweep of Purdue, solid NCAA season... I can't fathom Dolson pushes him out at that point. And we were literally a couple seconds and bounces of the ball away from that.
Wasn’t the “retirement” announced before any of these things? The timing suggests Woodson was out no matter what happened. If the things you alluded to would have mattered, Dolson would have likely taken a wait and see approach…

Obviously I get it. But basically zero chance Dolson gets the green light, or whatever he needed, to push him out if he sweeps Purdue, and has an obvious NCAA at large team.
Woody was likely gone either way & saying zero chance is as dumb as if I would say 100%, but considering you’re just speculating & his retirement was actually announced, it’s a lot closer to 100 than zero, no matter if he seeeps PU & makes the tourney, since both of those things were still possible when announced.

I’m sure this was a big factor in the hiring TBH. As short sighted as it might seem, we needed to hit the ground running with our hire. Tucker, if healthy, should at minimum be 2nd team all big ten but I’d bet 1st.
He won’t beat out Braden Smith for first team All Big Ten on the team PU has coming back next season, unfortunately for us.

Saw a listing of top NIL deals and in bball, they had Braden 2nd behind Flagg. Sounds like PU just funneled whatever $$ they had for Edey to keep Braden, as there were rumors he had a couple serious suitors (Gonzaga and KU maybe?). Agree with Cav though, I'd think Tucker DeVries has a great shot at 1st team, along with Braden.

Will be interesting to see the approach CDD will take in building a roster: will he try and surround TD with a bunch of really good players with him the likely leading scorer, or will he try and find a stud and allow TD to be a great Robin to another Batman. I'd like to see him spread the wealth and try and build a deep roster with a bunch of good players and try and mix in some guys who have 2-3 years.

I would say being able to build a “program” is a bigger need. If we expect immediate final fours and championships, we will be doing this again in 3 years
Also every guy that enters the portal before first round games is not a must get. There are a few right now that fit in size and/or shooting but there will be many within a couple of weeks. So don't get gungho everybody on what is in the portal right now. IU has a lot of needs and DDV will be selective knowing those very needs and what he might bring from WVU with him. Plus I'm sure he will have a staff in short order. Patience my friends. We are past the storm. It is calm and the sun will start rising on Bloomington,Indiana very soon.

I like the hire. He will bring guys that fit his scheme. Not just throw money at shiny rentals that can’t mesh into a balanced roster

No…it came after they lost at Purdue and had that 5 out of 6 losing stretch or whatever it was. If he beats Purdue in Mackey, and wins 1 or more of those higher caliber home games…the calculus would have been different. And that isn’t hard to understand or admit.

think it was also just before UM came to Btown and they were trying to head off an ugly scene with our own coach getting booed and chants for Dusty.

It was before the UofM game, and just after the Iowa and Ill 25-pt. blowout losses.

Had not seen him play, so wanted to find a highlight reel. Oh my goodness, we've been struggling with shooting right? Can't believe this guy was shooting 47% on 3s, when he launches them regularly apparently from the next zip code. Do you get 4 pts when you shoot it from there? Love to see he and Goode and another shooter or 2 on the floor together. Welcome Tucker, you and your shooting are going to be very welcome in Btown!

He shoots at 36.7% from 3 for his career, which is slightly better than Goode. The thing that sticks out to me looking at his stats, is being 6'-7" he only hits 30% from two? And only 41% overall. You look at his metrics, he has a Box BPR of only 2.56, while Goode was at 3.89. I looked at Rice & Caryle the year before and they had low metrics too, but everyone had them two of the best portals in the country? Both played last year about what their metrics showed the year before.

He shots 30% percent from 2, so going to the hole is not his strength.

No, I don't think so. Can you show your math? Think I saw 47% on 3s and 42% overall. Might put him in the 30s somewhere, depending on the % of 3s he takes but it's not going to be 30%.

His career stats on ESPN show him 276/752 from 3 and total field goals 666/1530. From 2 then he is 666-276=390 made and 1530-752=778 2’s attempted so right at 50% (390:778=.501). He is career 81% from free throw line.

3’s-36.7%
2’s 50%
ft 81%.

Go back to the first post where it gave his stats from last year, it says he shot 30% from 2's, you guys posted it!

Yeah. Last year he only took 30 2’s before going down and hit 9 of them so small sample and well below his career stats.

I'm not sure Tucker would even make it in the top 20 of the BT, shooting the 3, Purdue alone has 4 players shooting over 40% from three for their career. Loyer, Heide, Cox and Smith.

The usual stat is 3 pointers made and Sandfort led the league this year with 84. Devries Soph year he hit 88 and Junior year 87. This past year his percentage was up and he was on track for above a 100 made.
