I don't vote like you. Don't care what you hope. It'll be DeSantis. You won't like him either
That's fine, but I was actually agreeing with your point about Trump. You and I don't have to vote alike to agree on that.

We'd be better off if Trump was out of politics, unless we think we need more of Trump's endorsements of celebrity Trump-loyal candidates that Trump has never met and who have no experience or track record.

I would vote for Mehmet Oz over Fetterman. I would vote for Mehmet Oz over Biden and Harris. I would vote for the Wizard of Oz over Biden and Harris. The number one goal above all things is to get the progressives out of office. What we have now is a nightmare

As long as Trump-endorsed candidates are winning elections, your candidate in 2024 is going to be Trump, not DeSantis or Pence or some other Republican you like more. If the Republicans nominate Trump again for 2024, we'll stay in the same crap we're already suffering for two more years.

Because Trump ran his own campaign, he had quite a lot to do himself with getting Biden elected. Biden won, but it wasn't due to brilliant politics on Biden's part. I'm not sure Biden could have beaten anyone other than Trump in 2020. Current comments from Republicans hint that Trump's GOP support may not be as strong as last time. The situation would begin clarifying quicker if Trump was out of the picture.

You enjoying the economy we're in now?? At least he cared. I wasn't voting for a pastor to a church, I was voting for someone who actually understood finance and what was wrong with america. I guess you like us giving your tax dollars to other countries while we have empty shelves here in america. tells me all I need to know.
He understood finance so well that he claimed bankruptcy six times and his understanding of what was wrong in America and capitalizing on it is what got him elected. You weren't voting for a pastor either, you were voting for a man who became the first president in history to not transfer power peacefully, incited an attack on our capital, lied about a stolen election and attempted to overturn an election. Those are not simply a case of bad manners or poor choice of words. They are criminal offenses. Biden should have never been president, but your defense of Trump is indefensible.

DC is full of people who should be in prison, what else is new? They blew the brains out of a sitting President and NO ONE went to jail... nothing new under the sun. at least we agree on one thing, Joe should have never been president.

Negative. Trump won't be the guy in 24. His ship is sinking.

Wtf? Who's "they?" Oswald didn't go to jail because Ruby took matters into his own hands. Oswald was also the key witness so, when Ruby ended his life, that was that.

Completely agree. Biden failed in his two previous bids for the White House (1988 and 2008) and he would have been 0 for 3 if Trump hadn't been such a god-awful president.

The country's a mess right now - - inflation, gas prices, crime, etc. While it's dumb to try to pin everything on Biden, politicians never hesitate to take credit when things are going well so, at least to some extent, it's fair to argue that the buck stops with him. He's on track to be the weakest and most ineffective Democratic president since Jimmy Carter.

All of that, though, doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to the shit Trump and his cronies pulled after Trump lost the election. A sitting American president attempting to overturn an election in a desperate bid to stay in power is unprecedented in the US and a blow to democracy. Like Watergate, we need public hearings.

Trump's post-election conduct is exponentially worse than Watergate, and he makes Nixon look like a choirboy in comparison. A key difference between then and now is that there were many congressional Republicans in '73/'74 who put country before party and kicked Nixon to the curb. Now, there are very few with any balls. Pathetic.

We all distrust DC. But Trump's words and actions are enough to believe he bears some responsibility for Jan 6. If you want trump you have DeSantis. Same shit without the stink. Vote for him. And if others in the party don't like DeSantis they can go to the next one on line. But the sooner trump is out the better.

Trump lost. Period. And he F'd up the senate too. Enough is enough
My problem with Trump and January 6th is not about what various people with political agendas claim he did, but with what I actually saw him fail to do. Instead of being Presidential and speaking to the rioters forcefully in his role as president of our country, he remained silent. Had he spoken out immediately and strongly condemned the group's behavior, it might have stopped or at least not have risen to the level it did. I was disappointed that he was so unpresidential at a time we needed for him to "step up to the plate" be our President. For me, it was the moment that that I felt certain he was not fit to be our President.

Because he cares first and foremost about himself.

Last post but I'll say this, I don't watch the news, I go by what I see at the pump, the store and everywhere else. Generally a president doesn't affect fuel prices but a simple graph tells us this time they have. Prices immediately went up when Joe shutdown the pipeline and took away our energy independence. You know this, you just don't want to admit it. By the time Russia invaded Ukraine gas had already gone up a dollar a gallon. You guys all blamed Bush Jr. for helping his buddies at Haliburton but now you want to claim the President has no influence. It doesn't work that way. I'm sorry you have such a hatred for a man that only tried to help you and your family, all while receiving no compensation. I'm sure if I was around Trump very much, I wouldn't like him personally but I care enough about this country that I'm willing to overlook his personality and see the bigger picture. Too bad you can't do the same for your family. I could write a book here but I've dealt with enough left leaners to know it's pointless. Our country can't continue like this, but maybe that's what they're hoping. In the meantime, it looks like IU is going to have a nice team, hopefully we will be able to enjoy that.
What pipeline did Biden shut down? Serious question. The Keystone Pipeline was never shut down.

Desantis is Trump light. Just as partisan. Floridians are starting to question his moves with Disney, redrawing voting districts, etc.... Does our nation really need another partisan idiot.
Floridians like him better than the Dems. That's what's salient. Nationally he'll be what's left after Trump continues to step on his dick and people grow more and more tired of him. He'll out trump trump without the baggage. And no we definitely don't need another partisan idiot. But it's Harris/Pete/Warren vs. Trump/Desantis. A partisan idiot is a given at this point

OK that brings up an interesting question in my mind. Jump ahead 18 months and let's say that the DeSantis defeats trump in the Republican primary but just barely. Let's say 50.5% versus 49.5%. Does Trump admit defeat / endorse Desantis or does he take his ball and go home and take his hardcore voters with him?

Everything is up to the Dems imo. Their far left nonsense is going to get them destroyed in Nov. if they run Biden, Harris, Bernie, Warren or stay at home Pete they lose in 2024 to DeSantis. If they run a moderate Dem, Dems win no matter who the republican candidate. Imo.

Desantis might be even more dangerous than Trump. While both trump and desantis are morally inept, Desantis seems more politically savvy and capable of continuing his revenge inspired laws.

Name one person in the presidential conversation that has displayed any morals from either side?

Desantis is a clown.

He showed us who he was during covid. First hiring a complete joker of a surgeon general (Lapado, who is a Covid denier that was busted lying about his experience when he was part of that crackpot 'America's Frontline Doctor's) but mainly because when Covid was raging in Florida.... Desantis stopped reporting.

Easy fix. When times are tough and you are heading the state that was generating a fifth of the cases and deaths....simply stop reporting.

Florida then started reporting less deaths than Minnesota after he 'adjusted the reporting'.

Not surprisingly there are audits coming out that Florida's death count is waaaay under reported.

That alone is all you need to know about Desantis and in a different time might have ruined him.

As far as all of the other culture war nonsense he engaged in, basically when he screams he's for 'freedom' he means the freedom to tell groups what to do if you're not in his group (ie culture), while also having the freedom to not be told what to do by those same groups.

Honestly I think I'd rather have Trump run than Desantis. Desantis has much, much, much more political savvy than Trump. Which means he's more dangerous because I don't think people at the mass level has paid attention to Desantis.

Trump is Rush Limbaugh. Desantis is Fox news.

Plus Trump is much more undesirable politically to the masses. Desantis has better political skills to influence the middle IMO.

That's not what I asked though. As of this moment, I tend to agree that whomever the Republicans throw out there will likely win (barring a miraculous economic turnaround In the next 24 months).
The question is though, will Trump endorse DeSantis if Trump loses? I would wager that 10 to 20% of the Republicans are beholden to Trump, even above party. If he tells them to stay home because he is bitter about losing, would that be enough for the Dem to slip by?

No mystery. In that instance, Trump would just start calling state election officials to claim DeSantis cheated and "Fellas, I need 11,000 votes, give me a break."

The biggest question for me is this....

how in the world did anyone actually think that using fake ELECTORS could somehow work?!?
You're getting bogged down with details! Stay at 40,000 ft. Make comments like "our new health care plan is going to be released in two weeks". Focus on things like pictures of the proposed paint job on Air Force One or the new uniform design for Space Force. Don't get me started.

He took taxpayers money and sat home for a month. A benefit available to no one else

And yet I doubt he was the only politician to take advantage of a benefit that existed long before him.

Also, don't recall you complaining about all of the taxpayer money that went to trump's golf outings and paying his higher than average charge to secret service.

Oh yea, bet Trump was working hard while golfing on taxpayers dime.

So yea. Not buying your shit about his paternity leave

I'm curious how you think anything Trump would have said would have affected a full-scale riot?

If he makes a statement, are the rioters going to stop what they're doing to listen to him?

No, they're rioting - you can't listen to a car radio or iTunes while you're rioting.

He offered the National Guard and no one acted on it. How was he supposed to stop a riot with a statement?
