I read on a OSU forum some talk that Noland's issues early got him behind the others, missed class or missed workouts. Others heard good things.
Anyway, the comment I liked was
"... met Air at a special needs football camp last summer. He was sooo nice to the athletes there, and threw passes at the station I worked for over an hour. The athletes loved him, and he stayed until the last person got a selfie or an autograph from him. I hope he balls out somewhere. "
Gotta like doing good things for special needs kids.

I'll trust Shanahan and Cig. They believe they can get plenty out of him apparently. He adds depth. Depends on the price maybe, balancing the NIL, but seems good.Some info:

Every coach out there has heard 'production over potential' , that made a team 11-1 ... Some of this years targets seem to be more 'potential'. Moneyball. Gotta throw some change ups!
Some RS freshman type targets may be more affordable than when they were highly prized high school recruits, plus you have them a year stronger. Some others like Nowakowski may be affordable depth but our coaches see a good fit where he can shine.

FWIW: one site lists a 6’ 6” 305 lb OL from UK as being in the portal. Name is Dylan Ray iirc, and he’s apparently from Noblesville, IN. I don’t know if Allen’s staff recruited him out of high school or not.
So, counterpoint:
You take a guy like Air Noland, who was something like the #5 QB in the 2023 class. Has spent two seasons with OSU. Highly rated. He was 4th or 5th (by some preseason charts) on their depth chart. Behind guys like Will Howard and Devin Brown. If Allat is overrated, my take is Howard is too. I didn’t think he was that great. Got a lot of hype but was terrible against Michigan in a huge game. I think we end up with either Mendoza, Pribula or possibly Nolan and I think Cig could do well with all 3. Pribula has a lot of instinct when you watch him play. He visited Missouri and has visits lined up to Iowa, UCF and IU. There are actually teams out there that like his game.
As I said, the only one who excites me much would be Mendoza, but I don’t feel particularly confident about him ending up in Bloomington. And I’m more concerned about some other positions right now than I am about QB.
It’s very rare to get a black guy playing TE with a white kid’s first name and a Polish last name. I’ll take it! Good pickup from a veteran standpoint. This will be his 5th year in college.
Cig has done well with whoever her puts back there. I trust whoever it is next season won’t be a slouch.
Everyone was concerned going into the 2024 season because “all Cig did was bring in a bunch of G5 players” and all the pundits said “you cannot win” with transfers from JMU, Old Dominion, Ohio, Kent State, etc.
I’m OK with Wheeler and Ratcliff, but they’re not edge guys. I would’ve been ok with Hopper too but Tulane apparently got him instead. So far no edge guys have signed, or at least it hasn’t been announced. That’s the concern, not what other programs they played at before IU.
Same with OLs. Need more of them signing as well. I’m hoping for some news on these positions soon.
Maybe that is an indication that Kamara is coming back?

Air Noland is a true freshman. He hasn’t been at osu 2 seasons. With 5 star Julian Sayin in the same class and all the hype surrounding St. Clair Noland seems to be the odd man out. However, it doesn’t feel like we are a realistic option. I could be wrong, but our strong pursuit of other QBs makes me doubt he is coming to IU. I wouldn’t mind seeing it happen though.
I think they need at least one pure edge guy even if Kamara is returning, maybe two if he’s leaving.
This account has been right before. This would be a huge get at RB
I’ve been wondering if there is any interest in Karlaftis. He is certainly not his brother, but he has some talent and a lot of Big10 experience

The only reason he ended up playing Big Ten ball was because of his brothers legacy and the fact that p u is full of dumbs--es in football decision making rolls...

Hemby would be a great pick up if this is true... Fits the definition of Big Back with Good Hands and relatively decent speed...
I would take 2 QB's. Noland and an older guy.
It means one of the other freshman are leaving but I feel it would be an upgrade if he is interested.
Sounds a little messed up, but it is the way of things now.
I think Lee Beebe is the guy and this looks like a solid #2. Both can receive the ball although Hemby seems like that was a larger part of his game. I don't know anything about his blocking, but he has lots of experience.
Just to point out the other side of this, if you take out that 75-yard run vs IU, he wouldn't have had any game over 87 yds. Only one game over 67yds and he got double digit rushes in 9 of the 12 games. His average also drops down to 4ypc if you take out that 75yd rush.
Anyways, I think he is a veteran player with lots of experience and fits the mold of what Cig did last year with our backfield. Solid productive pickup!
Roman 6-0 208, on film is shifty & also a strong runner inside the tackles. Reminds me of Justice Ellison.

Maryland had a mediocre to poor oline this year. I think he will shine behind a Bob Bostad coached line.

He did much better his freshman year though. So as another poster said, this could just be OL related. He's got some size, speed and hands to go along with a lot of experience for a true freshman RB. Its a really good get, I didn't mean to overly poo poo it. ha Sorry!Downer!

I stand corrected. You’re right. Noland committed in 2023 and enrolled in January 2024.
Our hockey coach up here Joe Shawan, at Michigan Tech is big on players who were team captains in high school, had a lot of success, etc.
That's fine as far as it goes. But now we have character but less talent and fewer wins... then we did when previous coach was here and recruited higher end skill. But then again previous Coach Mel Pearson flamed out at Michigan for various sins.
But anyway, I preferred talent. But I know they aren't exclusive. Cig seems to find both.

Bad offensive line and you may be reading too far into numbers. Big gains count. Tevin Coleman was the ultimate 12 carries for 35 yards, and 1 for 73.
No I am not disregarding a player who often gets big yardage. If I took Tevin Colemans longest rush though, his stats would hardly change, because he did that a lot. ha The problem I was pointing out was that one rush for Hemby was his 2nd highest GAME total in rushing yards.
Either way, I later stated the OL does have an impact because his freshman year was better.
