IU ought to release him from his commitment until he improves.
Happens all the time Tyler Zeller was 15th at one time. Fell to 33rd..

He may struggle at times his Freshman year.
But as a Sophomore and possibly a Junior ..He won't ..

He threw one down in the lane basically where Stewart ( La Lamiere) had to back off .To keep from being on a poster.

And according to half the posters on this site, Archie needs to resign because of this.
I think it's a lot more than one or two. I was wondering how he made the
McDonald roster with limited exposure to comparable forwards competition around the country. Well we can't expect an Anthony Davis.
People on here that act like Archie isn't on a completely hot seat park in blue spaces. This is Indiana, we already had a coach not make the tourney in his first three years and not firing him set the program back 20 years. If Archie can't make it in his first three with 2 burger boys, he will be fired or completely lose the program.
Make or brake year for Archie, Holtman has made 2 tourneys with worse squads, ILL is projected to be a top 25 team, and will be IMO. If we miss the tourney Bloomington will have pitchforks marching in the streets. This is not an opinion. Many people feel this way they just don't get on the internet and post about it.
Go into a local store in Bloomington, ask the owner how they feel about Archie. He has one more year folks, like I said, not an opinion.

Too many people on this board seem to live in this internet fan reality and not the real world. Fans are not going to sit around for 9 years like we did for Crean. Next year is it.
I would agree with all of what you said including that Illinois really looks to be poised for a big year. Archie could get a 4th year but boy would it be toxic if he has a bad 3rd season. Just not alot to be optimistic about right now given all the recruiting misses this spring. I thought we could maybe get some offseason excitement by bringing is a few nice shooters. Boy was I wrong on that one.

The sky is not falling. Relax. Rome wasn't built in a day. Archie has only had 1 of his own recruiting classes. Next year will be his 2nd true recruiting class.
Crean inherited nothing after the Sampson debacle. Started from ground zero year one. His first three years were under far different circumstances than Miller.
I believe hiring Mike Davis set us back 20 years and beyond. NEVER should have been hired in the first place. Horrible leadership by the IU brass. They should be ashamed of their decision making process.
Then IU hires a known cheater in Sampson and he does the same thing in his brief tenure at IU.
Crean wasn’t a horrible hire. Pretty solid. I was not tore up about the first three years due to no returning scholarship players in year one and recruiting momentum with Zeller and company. However, I was on board letting Crean go and would have done so sooner.
Miller - jury is still out. Hoping for the best. Year 3 is a tipping point for Miller and IU. I hope he gets it done.
Bottom line is we have come no where close to being a competitive team year in, year out since Knight’s firing which is approaching 20 years. And that started with the egregious hiring of Mike Davis thus setting IU back two decades and counting.

Thank you "justjames" for your response. I also felt he did not show well in the McDonalds game. He seemed slow and too passive for that game environment. I'm glad he's coming to IU, and I'm sure he will be a very good, if not great, team player. But, he did not fit well in that fast-paced, all-star, aggressive, game format. I don't think he will be a one-and-done player. Probably more like a Cody Zeller. Improve greatly over two or three years, and then leave early. Or maybe even stay all four years. At least, I hope so. He's got the skills, and a great attitude, and I'm glad he's a Hoosier.

It is a fact! I can confirm that the "Store Owners of Bloomington Association" is a very powerful force not to be trifled with. They are behind every major decision made in the IU athletic department. Just who do you think got names put back onto the jerseys of the football team?! Big Red Crimson Buffalo is their leader. They all dance around a big candle wearing buffalo helmets at their monthly meeting.

I remember another Mr Basketball who decided (against his coaches wishes) to play in the prestigious All-Star game at that time - the Dapper Dan in Pittsburgh. He scored only 4 points and was greatly overshadowed.
He ended up a 2-time All-American, 4-yr starter and team MVP and an NCAA Champion. His name? Steve Alford.
True. IU has made plenty of coaching changes. Unfortunately consistent success has not worked out. The “20 year” reference was to the post I responded to. I didn’t feel like Crean set us back that far nor was he a bad hire at the time. I don’t have any dislike for Davis. To the contrary. Davis seemed like a good man but that hire was a real head scratcher that started us down a spiraling path that we have never recovered from unfortunately.
Every coach has to be accountable for their success or lack there of. As well as athletic directors and anyone involved in the hiring process.
I have always supported the IU coaches and teams. I hope we turn the corner.
There was plenty of mojo left after Davis was fired. He had one excellent years, albeit with Knight's players, but I think more blame lies with the subsequent hires, probably most falling on Sampson.

He inherited a team with TWO players from the year before, both walk-ons, Taber and Finklemeier. It was time to move on from Crean but acting like Crean shouldn’t have gotten his due diligence is laughable. I think he did an admirable job getting the program back to relevancy and did it sooner than later and more importantly did it the right way.
He got into his time machine and traveled to 2027. And that in part is why I put him on ignore. I don’t want him to ruin the next eight years. Rather I want to see it play out
Thirty years ago it worked for players such as Alford. It won't
happen in todays ranking. Don't forget that Steve was
a Bobby Knight recruit and was ballyhooed
