The auto byes given to lower seeded Boise St and ASU. Had they just gone by straight rankings we would have had a home game against Boise and we would be likely heading to the Rose Bowl to play Oregon if we won. I hope that changes in the future. It has given Penn State an easier road to the semifinal than Oregon.

Your absolutely right I think it's all interconference politics and tv involvement.

Yes, there is something definitely wrong when the 6th seed has an easier road than the #1 seed to the semi’s. In fact, Penn St. has the easiest road of all to the semifinals. However, Texas as the 5 seed also has an easy road to the semifinals. So the top two seeds have one less game, but a tougher go than seeds 5 & 6. That’s ridiculous.

Also, IU is getting most of the criticism from this, but I bet you IU would beat Boise State by at least 3 TD’s if they played on a neutral field. BSU doesn’t have the 4/5 star line play that would give IU troubles, like OSU and ND did.

Is Notre Dame not available for a top 4 seed? They were easily qualified this year. Boise and ASU should have been the lowest seeds

Just my opinion, but I think ALL first round games should be neutral sites (preferably indoors so weather isn’t a factor), and each team should be allotted the same amount of tickets. Second round games are bowl games in nice weather or indoors with no home field advantage, why should first round games have a home field advantage?

You think Boise and Arizona State should be seeded ahead of Notre Dame or Texas or Ohio State?
Boise State will have the same problems IU faced, line play will be dominated by an ND, Texas, and OSU and they’ll likely be curb stomped. Penn St. is +11 in the early line, so why seed a team in the top 4 if they’re a 2 score underdog in their first game? Can you imagine an NCAA tournament #1 seed being the underdog before the Sweet 16? The tournament committee would catch hell if that were the case.

I like the 12 team format but the seeding needs fixed.

I do too, but right now there are maybe 5 of 6 programs that can actually win it all. A 12 team playoff is exciting, however there will always be several teams who can’t hang with the best. You really can’t imagine in football matchups like FDU/Purdue, where there could be an upset with a tiny program beating a major one. Football just doesn’t work the same as basketball.

One of those this year is Ohio State…they are seeded 8th. They need to do the seeding properly. Award the best teams and have a tournament. I’m probably in the minority but I think the first round games should be at the higher seeded teams stadium. Award the teams for having the better year.

I do not have a problem with top seeds playing at home, if it is truly seeded (no automatic seeding). But visiting team should get at least 25% of tickets

Is next years playoff format the same as this year’s? I thought I read back in the summer this was to be used for two seasons and possibly tweak it after that.

But also reward the lower seed (and fans) for getting in by splitting the tickets 50/50.

It was agreed by the conference commissioner’s but in a perfect world the seedlings should have been.

1. Oregon
2.UGA
3.Texas
4.Penn St
5.ASU
6.ND
7.OSU
8.IU
9.Tennessee
10.Clemson
11.Boise
12.SMU

Oregon got absolutely hosed. They will have to beat OSU for a second time and then probably Texas just to get into the title game.

I personally like the on campus games, very cool element. It sucks because the losers of these games season is over before most bowls have started. I guess you could have the losers of the first rd play in a bowl game but then again, how many players would want to play or fans want to travel? The entire system needs tweaked, from the playoffs, NIL and portal. They are all good ideas but all 3 need fixed.

No way ASU should have been #5!

As much as I hated how things went down with IU ending up in a game where the tickets were so overpriced I felt lucky that we were close enough to at least have a shot to drive to it. Realistically I think home games in the 1st round are a necessary evil. How many fans can afford to travel to multiple offsite games. I think byes should go away and the reward for being a top seed is playing at home. 8 teams is plenty. Potentially conference champs don't get special seeding unless they are ranked 9 or 10, in which case they slide into the 8 seed. Not perfect but better than what we have this year in my opinion. 12 or 16 teams are too many. Only 4-6 teams have a legitimate chance to win it all each year anyway.

Byes are fine with me. Pre-selected byes to keep weaker conferences happy sucks, for sure. Auto-bids are more than generous enough.

I was OK with playing at ND. Felt they were underseeded and we got a tough matchup, but we were not screwed by not getting a home game. Our seed was reasonable.

We shit the bed on offense for the fifth half in a row. But, shit happens.

The ticket pricing at ND was unique because of so many IU fans wanting in. We drove the price up. Tickets for psu/smu were sixty bucks.

Because literally everyone I’ve heard talk about the excitement level at the home venues said it was the most awesome environment they’ve been a part of

IU has gotten a lot of shade but if you were cutting teams from this year's CFP Boise, ASU, SMU and one of TN or PSU would go first.

I don't think any team should have a home game or a bye game. Playoff games should be as fair as possible. The benefit of being a higher seed should just be getting to play lower seeds (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc)

When they figure out seeding, they could assign bowls based on the locations of the 2 teams to try to minimize travel time for teams/fans. For example, our game could have been the GameAbove Bowl in Detroit, the Autozone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee, or the Transperfect Music City Bowl in Nashville, TN. Those options would have been great for a 1st round playoff game and not a bad drive at all.

Sure, ND was close to IU but how is it fair that 95% of the tickets went to ND fans and their fans didn't have to go anywhere for their game. They lost to NIU and we lost to OSU and they get rewarded with a home game and 95% of the tickets.

Obviously ND was the better team but that game should have been on a neutral site with 50/50 ticket distribution.

So many issues with this. Just a non-starter

Not a bad concept but the aarguing will continue and who wants to go to Detroit?

I would just seed the 12 and layout out with firt round games on campus. No automatic conf-based byes is the biggest change that has to happen.

There will never be more than four teams with realistic shot to win it so the others are just warm ups and argument starters.
