It's BS, for one a big-time coach (Pitino, Calipari, Self, etc.) wouldn't balk at coming here because they know they'd be successful and 2) an unproven experiment hire (Fife, Lewis, etc.) would take the job just to build resume even if it didn't work out. The kind of coach that wouldn't take the job is exactly what we have or a Gregg Marshall, a mid-major success that has no history of success on the big stage and is comfortable where they're at.

Right now, and for the foreseeable future, we are not going to be good. If this continues in death spiral into next year, I will guarantee Arch doesn't get a year 4. So the question is, do you think we will see marked improvement next year. I don't, so it is logical that we pay less and give someone like Lewis or Fife, that have ties to the program, a chance to fix it. They're no more experimental than Archie and this point and much less expensive.

I’ll tell you what is BS. The entire narrative that it’s never the coaches fault. According to Colin Hartman (podcast) he says it’s the players lack of heart that is the problem and not Archie’s coaching/motivation. I call BS on this. If this were the case then coaches would never get fired as it couldn’t be their fault the team wasn’t ready to play it’s the players fault. It absolutely is the coaches job to have them ready and if they aren’t gonna play with heart, don’t f//king play them.

Archie was flat out a horrible hire.
To be honest, I think it is time to make a change and to be brutally honest, there is a decent, not great, but decent coach available and we all know who that is. Do we want to go there? Should it be about restoring credibility, or do we want to experiment again with a Fife or Lewis. I'm thinking maybe both, maybe hire Steve and mandate he offer asst. positions to Fife and Lewis. That sounds like a dream scenario to me to unite the fan base and have a plan B.

I HIGHLY value the opinion of someone who has actually played for IU, so I take seriously what CH says.

Stop looking at records when hiring coaches!!! Coach K had a losing record at Army when hired, so did Lavell Jordan at Butler. This is where you need an AD that knows what he is doing!!!!

Fault and responsibility are sometimes two different things.

I know dude but I’m sure there were Colts players that would have said the same thing about Pagano. Did you think Chuck Pagano was a good head coach? Maybe the Colts players just didn’t want to win- geez!

I honestly think we could do this if it were pitched to all 3 that we want immediate results and credibility and we are hoping its long line of succession in place.

Alford- 3 Sweet Sixteens in 5 years at UCLA. Recruiting 5 star players. This clearly surpasses what Archie did in pathetic Atlantic 10 where he got lucky on his elite 8 run and played a 10 seed in Regional....

Lol. If you think that would “unite the fan base” you need to go back and look at the Alford threads after Crean was fired.

Take away Crean’s First 3 seasons and his run at IU is pretty similar to Alford’s at UCLA. Except Alford never won a conference title, did less with better recruits and managed to get fired mid season. He may “clearly surpass” Archie but he doesn’t clearly surpass Crean. Is that what you want?

I don’t care about “uniting the fan base” how stupid. Winning will unite the fan base, get lost snowflake
I don’t care about it either. I was just making fun of the original comment. And speaking of getting lost, didn’t you promise you were done for the year snowflake?

Then Archie doesn’t either! Surpass Crean and Alford. Would you agree?

Indiana deserves better! IMHO, Miller won't make it. From what we've seen in the past two seasons, there's nothing impressive. But, Steve is not the answers. He's an ok coach but how much difference between him the last four? If we drop Miller, his successor must be a well established name. If we hired one more coach like the last four, we would have nothing left (actually we might already have nothing left). Unless we are sure we could get someone like Stevens or Donovan type, we should wait. But the search should start now.

Sampson was 22-4 and 11-2 when he was fired for texting players! Who the f—k fires their coach with that record without waiting for an investigation!! My god IU. Awful. Did Arizona fire Sean Miller when that story broke, how about Bruce Pearl did he get canned. Oh that’s right IU takes the moral high ground (code for losing)

This Sampson thing really pisses me off especially when you think about how corrupt the NCAA is, then after we self report we get hammered. We should have told the NCAA to go f—k off and that we were doing an “internal investigation” but oh no are administration self reports! Unreal

If you want any of those three coaches you mentioned here, please switch your allegiance to one of their teams. As for any of them other than Pitino even being interested (or IU being able to out bid their current programs), HAHAHAHAHA! You guys need to leave your fantasy world (and there is not a single, rational IU fan in the world who could justify mentioning Pitino or Calipari in relation to the IU job. They are everything this program should not be). Now, stop with the fire crap. Its beyond ridiculous.

It won’t be ridiculous when we have a similar record next year.

If you think those were the only issues with Sampson, you weren't paying attention. He was on probation from OU when we hired him. He re-violated a rule the NCAA was stressing. Not very bright....and revisionist history on your part. Sampson is the mistake we are still paying for.

That was a decade more ago. The guy might be the best we had after Knihht but not a fit for IU. Remember the drug problem among his players? That was why Bennett backed out. No matter how good he is, not good here. Sure, almost every other big school cheats now. But I still believe we should be different.
