The Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group . . .

Goat is nowhere close to correct. He and others are just being smart/dumb asses

The point of the thread is why do we have billions of dollars of lethal force neutralized by a stupid mistake. The navy has no logistical redundancy because of a failure to meet recruitment goals. White male dropout is a factor in my view.

Why the Big Horn ran aground is a separate matter and has little or nothing to do about who was at the helm. I would think that any computer aided guidance system would certainly use ocean depth as a relevant input. This should never have happened.

Goat’s and others take on this thread leads me to believe that the board has become worthless.

What you are saying put in other words is that white males are playing the victim card. Yes, you clearly won't say that but it fits EXACTLY.

How does the single most mission critical ship in the theater RUN ****ING AGROUND?
Sadly reminiscent of a while back when American warships were colliding with 12 knot cargo ships and running aground to the point it was common...
It's all about this DEI bullshit which has infected the Navy from the top down through the Academy, specialist schools , everywhere..
****ing pitiful...
The result could be dead Americans, a lot of them.

Get ready, it's about to get real.
You don’t have a clue. There were two collisions and a grounding in the last 10 years and not one of them had a thing to do with DEI. Did your Russian handlers give you that misinformation to spread or did it spring straight out of your butt.

There is huge truth in that statement. 'Progressives ' always overplay their hands. This is one result.
Yeah, that wasn't a joke. If I'm signing up today, do I want to be in a situation where I'm sleeping with people of that sexuality?

If that makes me homophobic or some other phobic, so be it. Especially on a ship, there ain't no getting away from it.

Only something like 25% of 17-25 year olds can pass the current guidelines for entering service. The largest disqualifier is obesity.

Back in the late 60s that sure didn't matter. DIs just made the big boys road guards. Extra running slimmed them down by the end of basic training.

Military is now using electronic medical background records. If history of depression, etc.... They don't qualify. Believe that if you are on any prescription mental health meds in the last year, you don't make the cut. Failing drug tests due to weed is another big one.

Do you have a proposed solution? There were several factors mentioned, but no concensus on one overriding problem.
That’s a big question that has many factors. In my view the problem begins with absent fathers, absent men in K-12 education, and the increasing feminization of higher ed in the sense that women outnumber men in enrollment and graduates. I realize I’m begging the question, I don’t have good ideas of how to fix these issues either.

Seems like you still revert back to male victimhood. That the core problem is that women are over achieving and men can't keep up. And that includes child raising.

This is the second time victimhood has come up. I have no idea wtf that even means in this context. Males are dropping out of being fathers, teachers, students, professors, military recruits, cops, and on and in. Of course women will fill the void in some, but not all areas. My son works in a dirty job industry not attractive to most men and definitely not women. . The workers are mostly Navajo and Spanish speakers. Women are discovering the trades because of huge labor shortages there because of absent men. How in the hell is that victimhood?

I think pushing victimhood onto this issue is unserious, vacuous, mindless and shows no effort to think about the problem.

But why are they dropping out? I have my own opinions from what I've observed.

Will be ironic on this board of all places... But the religion of sports in this country is a big problem. The amount of time and resources dedicated to kids playing and achieving what will be useless skills for 99% of them is mind boggling. It hits boys a lot harder, when they eventually top out and it's all they've been conditioned to do since age 4. Some may be done by 10 or 11... Others not until in high school. But they'll mostly all quit and then go sit on the sidelines of life and for a lot of boys there isn't much else other than video games and getting stoned, as not much else is emphasized outside of sports in most school environments.

Are you serious? The point was made by someone in this thread, and many other threads, that White men are blamed for everything. Heck, you make that argument all the time. So, isn't victimhood an easy reach for anyone?

We just heard the story of how Going to the Sun Road was built. In the hardest section, men would repel down, drill a hole, put in explosive, light it, push away from the wall as it went off. They were the highest paid workers.

Those "manly" jobs are gone. If we needed anything like that, anyone who knows how a joystick works could move the drone into position.

Even in the navy, those people on that ship weren't climbing rigging to set sales like 200 years ago.

If we can tell Blacks, "you certainly will face discrimination, suck it up and deal with it" we can tell boys, "many of you are going to be working in an office where being more macho isn't an advantage, sorry we don't need so many cowboys any more."

We used to have a lot of jobs that men did where they were very expendable tools.

I've been reading a lot on the history of Haiti recently.... The amount of men that the French and the British poured into Haiti just to basically die of yellow fever was astounding.

Not with my minion bitch!!!! I’m running the show here like the great ones. Stu Hart. Old man Marinovich. And to tie in Haiti lots of people/countries have blood on their hands including the USA. And I have a very good buddy who left Haiti for a wonderful life here. How? He played on the national team.
Sports.

Now. Joking aside. I have very strong feelings about how parents are getting duped by youth sports. You could put me on a field anywhere in America and give me 20 minutes and I can tell you what five kids will make it and what 500 could go home. But the question that always comes back to me is: what else would they be doing? They aren’t going to hooky’s survivalist camp on the hooky family farm. They’re playing video games or on the their phones eating nerd’s clusters

Getting high and playing video games. Hoping to glam onto a woman that will support them. And then pissed when women don't want them.
My oldest son turned 14 and immediately wanted his work permit. He now works at a nearby business and the owner frequently tells us he works circles around the rest of the employees.

It’s a parenting issue. It always is.

Hate to break it to you, but you served with gays before they were allowed to say they were gay. That are you feel any better?

My middle kid has been a host at one of the restaurants in town since she turned 14.

As long as her grades are okay, she can work. She knows school comes first though, in every situation.

Sure. And I think sports are great for kids that want to do them and they can learn plenty from them even if they aren't really that good. But most are going to drop out of them (or get cut) and then, as you say... To do what?

Not many people showing up to cheer the debate club or robotics club. Get called a nerd and ostracized/isolated? Better to stay home on the PS5.

To be fair .. These non sports activities are promoted much better in wealthier communities. But the Navy/Army is unlikely to meet their recruitment goals targeting these areas.

Terrific. Work is a wonderful confidence and skill builder for young people.

Didn't have sons, have two daughters.
The older daughter worked two jobs in HS, earned 11K as a HS junior, IU Kelly grad, Marian U., BS Nursing, Honors, USI Masters Healthcare Admin...now getting paid for her work and perseverance.
Her mom did a Hell of a job.

My daughter had the red carpet rolled out for her at the biggest club in the region. By the end of the second season the head of it who I have known for 35 years put his arm around me and said let’s go for a walk.

Put her on a club a level down run by another buddy and I helped coach. By the end of that season she was done. Moved on to 4 years of gymnastics. I had zero connection. She was terrible. That was it. Instruments. Drama. We’ve tried it all.

And this kid gets great grades. Is the defacto mayor of the school she is so popular. Totally happy. But she has nothing. She is literally into nothing. Zero hobbies etc. I think it’s awful. But what can you do. Well with him I’m making him stick to something to the end.

But is parenting worse now than it was 30 or 40 years ago? I don't think our generation parents knew WTF they were doing either.
The only selfies my parents took with me were called family pictures. Or at some kind of event (birthday/graduation). Too many parents today (especially the millenials) are caught up in the social media blitz that is currently destroying everything good in teh world. Overcoming that isn't easy. Even the "my kids won't be on social media" parents are either naive or ostracizing their kids from other kids which only leads to bullying/shaming, etc.

My mom worked when I was growing up so my sister and I were latchkey kids. But we also knew we'd get our asses beat if we screwed around when nobody was around. I think we've taken the rod away from parents and tired to turn what was once a dictatorship (parenting) into a consensus democracy? Which is seven levels of dumb.

She is literally into nothing. Zero hobbies etc. I think it’s awful. But what can you do.
My duaghter cleared the bar of working for money. She will work, to get money. Thank God.

But hobbies....sigh. She's realized recently she is a bit....boring really.

So true re the millennials and social media. They’re simply insane. My ex stoker sent me a video this morning of my minion picking flowers in the backyard for her. She captioned it something about pure happiness is your son picking you flowers are some bs. But it was captioned bc it was going to be a story. God forbid something happen and it not be a story.

Last night they were making a volcano. She sent me that video too with her hubby filming. She sends me videos daily. I mean maybe she thinks I want to see but I think it reflects zero self awareness. I think that generation is warped from social media

Your daughter made it a long way in soccer tho. She had that.

I think it’s worse - but is also more difficult. We have to steer them away from addictive devices, addictive substances, having to sit back while social bonus points are being awarded to mentally ill people or based on immutable characteristics like race, much more foreign investment in terms of foreign kids in school setting the bar much higher than it was for us.

She’s into something - she’s just not into sharing she’s into it. It’s probably something artsy fartsy and she’s ashamed of it when she shouldn’t be.

Lego club... yes that's a thing and my youngest signed up for it to do after school.

Better then being at home doing nothing.
