In the B1G, IU is:

Offense: 2nd in passing; 6th in rushing; 3rd in scoring; 1st in total.

Defense: 13th in passing; 14th in pass D efficiency; 13th in rushing (surprisingly ahead of Minnesota); 13th in scoring (tied with Maryland); and, 14th in total (48.5 yards behind 13th Maryland and 111 yards behind 12th Nebraska).

Surprisingly, IU is in 14th in punting with only 28 net yards per punt.

Our net punting is down because we keep kicking into the end zone instead of going for it on 4th in plus territory. Wish CKW would stop pandering to the people who don't know football and would stick to his guns and go for it.

Well this would be a good week to do just that, kinda like Navy against us and never punt knowing with Howard we should get 10 yards in 4 tries.

I think that those passing defensive stats are, unfortunately, skewed by 4 big pass plays over 2 games. Anytime you give up 75 yard passing plays, those stats inflate. What is our turnover margin?

Better play and pressure up front may eliminate some of that exposure we have in the secondary.
That said, I don't want us to change much with the mindset of our young pups in the DB. They haven't been poisoned yet to start playing back on their heels.

IU leads the B1G with a +4 turnover margin. 4 fumbles recovered plus 1 interception versus 1 interception. We are also 14th in opponents' 1st downs and opponents' 3rd down conversions.

Plus a blocked punt right?

My thoughts exactly! Run Howard 30-35 times and Redding 10-15. We need to dominate possession and keep the chains moving. Mix in some deep play-action on 2nd and short.

Also being skewed by the first half of the SIU game where we allowed 10 more points and about the same yardage as we did in the entire game against FIU. After the first half of SIU, while there were several big plays given up in both games, there were also lots of stops.

Dutra and Scales haven't played yet. I think they are our two most best players on D. They both had 3 picks last season.
