Some gossip

You think JG would have more success guarding a fast, multidimensional 3 than a healthy Trey Galloway? JG's lateral quickness is just not there... Oh my...

That simply isn't true. JG's defense was plenty good against the 3. Against guards, no but against the 3, all day.

He struggles moving laterally for some unknown reason. (lack of fundamentals). Then he fouls the second he’s behind.
When he is switched onto a guard, yes. On a 3, I don't see that to be the case.

ha TJD almost fouled out against Purdue. I guess TJD can't play defense. Do better.
This is a dumb take. I’m not sure your argument but JG played the 4 in every game but 2. Both games were a disaster. How many games did TJD play the 4? He didn’t. JG isn’t ready for the 3. If he wants The NBA he’s going to need to be a 3/wing but he’s not.

NBA games have become more fun to watch than most college games, just from a pure basketball standpoint.

Not a huge fan of the theatrics side of it. But just from a player movement, strategy, etc... I enjoy NBA game play as much, if not more, these days than I do college games.

This NCAA tournament, outside the obvious excitement of it being the NCAA tournament, has been unwatchable at times. The game, the officiating, its all just a mess.
It probably is but with limited free time at night I gotta choose carefully what I do with it.. I have not watched in so long I honestly could not even tell you who the top two or three teams are right now. Once the NCAA ends I do really not watch much for sports until football starts back up as I am not a big fan of watching baseball either.

Kinda depends on what teams are playing...but for the most part, the teams are much more ball movement focused than they have been in years past. And the rules/officiating is definitely geared more towards allowing player/ball movement than it is in the NCAAs.

Golden State has been fun to watch for years.

Memphis, Miami, Denver, Cleveland, Chicago, Atlanta...all pretty fun teams to watch play. I'm sure there are others.

Lakers...ehhh...Lebron, as great as he is, isn't all that exciting to watch. And they run it through him 90% of the time.

Nets, Bucks, and Sixers are still quite a lot of ISO stuff...not as fun. Though seeing KD and Kyrie's skill is hard not to enjoy.

Yea, to play three he needs to drastically improve his handle and awareness.

Awareness, fundamentals, doesn't get low enough when on ball, loses sight of ball and man when off the ball ... it's not quickness that's the problem, it's his positioning and defensive awareness. It'll come with more experience and as the game slows down for him.

If this turns out to be true rabjohns should have to give you his salary because you would be far more connected than he is.
Gun to head, a player on last years team…. The Big 3 all return next year in Bloomington.

I'm confused so question for the insiders. Is Woody liked by the players? Do they want to play and be coached by him? I thought they did but now I'm curious how much BS was in the locker room. Thx in advance.

It's best for all sides that Durr moves on. Wish Michael Durr all the best, but he's not suited for success with Big Ten basketball. He's just not.
He wasn't this year. He reminded me of some young big men I've coached to keep their hands above their shoulders on defense because they don't have quick rebounding reflexes. That was Durr.

But he also got ripped in the huddle by Woody for weak post up defense against the St Mary's big man. That may have sealed his fate. Those are things that can be fixed, but the staff has to decide whether it's worth the time. He hit a nice jumper late in that game, but probably too little too late.

I'm sure Durr is a good person, but he didn't have an aggressive/tough streak in him on the court. My experiences have been that in order to be successful as a college post player, at a minimum you have to be aggressive, tough-minded, and appreciate physical contact. I'm not suggesting you have to be a d%ck, but at the college level you have to thrive off of both mental and physical toughness in order to succeed in that role. I never saw Michael Durr exude that toughness at Indiana.

Shitty AAU defense from Rhode Island or wherever he’s from. Just needs to move his feet and stop reaching . Learn a triangle off the ball.

I’m still in shock when players with his athleticism can’t D. I know it’s easy posting on a message board about it, but…

He can make more than $75K just going out and getting a job.
Yes, but that assumes he isn't seeking
At this time . . . there are a lot of jobs out there.
I tend to believe that's true. I don't look, I'm comfortable where I'm at and with benefits and all. But a lot of six figure work is available and most remote in my line. It's tempting for me, but then there are benefits to consider. For somebody just starting out, why not?

His ability to defend and move without fouling was sub-par as well. Ike in the Wyoming game used him.

Guess I have to stop referencing the Jess Settles scholly plan at Iowa. Can’t beat em join em …
IU's roster was on schedule this season, when everywhere we turned we ran into Super-Seniors. With a bunch of tight finishes that resulted in losses, maybe IU looks a bit better this year if the other teams didn't have guys in their 5th and 6th years. Maybe next year we get to turn the tables goose/gander style

goose gander style indeed!!

Not with this bunch, let the purge begin
Race got way better from this year to last but faded last few games. TJD and X played their best ball at the end of the season. They play like that all year with 0 upgrades we are a top 25 team. Those three coming back would make it hard not to be top 25 all year honestly.

I mean I thought Race was gone until today. No idea what I think now at the 4 TBH. I just hope JG stays
I think he has the highest ceiling on the team. Athletic as hell. Good looking shot and can change the game. He is developing a three point shot and so is Race. I think Parker is gone and Kopp stays. If that plays out, Kopp should be coming off the bench. Should not be difficult to replace his 37% 3PT average and two buckets per game.
