Some gossip

That's why I come in here. Whether the rumor is true or not. We need to add a couple bigs and if true this could buy us another year.

Now let's bring in the shooters/scorers. I love the two big guards coming in and in HS they could shoot. Let's cross our fingers it translates to IU.

If this happens to be true. I really hope Woody still completely changes the offense around. Both Race and TJD need to be seen flourishing with the ball in their hands, away from the basket more. And I happen to think that could promote more rhythm and movement for the other 3 guys on the court too. 5 out motion, Woody should know something about that. Obviously there are limitations with TJD and Race as 2 of the 5, but there are also huge advantages. And...its not possible to be much worse offensively than we were this year.

IU needs better 3 point shooting from its 3 point shooting specialists, or needs to replace the 3 point shooting specialists in the lineup with players that will do more than just stand around waiting for an open shot.

When the 3's aren't falling, and we don't have players that move and shift the defense around, teams pack everything in and limit what TJD/Race can do. Phin/Galloway weren't good enough consistent scorers, but their movement and ability to drive got TJD and Race more open looks

It would me. But I think it would be an INCREDIBLY good sign for the culture Woodson is building at IU. Specific basketball stuff aside, those 3 coming back, when all 3 have legitimate good options otherwise in all likelihood, would say a lot!
It would have shocked me a week ago but with the NIL and differnt things I have read now it would not. I think two of those three do come back at least.

Totally agree. And it would make me a little nervous about Geronimo's role. I know people think he has to play the 3 to really reach his potential, so hopefully that would play out.

Yep...but if TJD and Race become guys that are moving around more, there will be less stagnation, less congestion in the lane, more opportunities for drives and kicks, etc... Hell...if TJD could consistently catch the ball at the top of the key or even at free throw line area...rip and take the ball to the basket. Whatever shooter is on the side he rips to, could get tons of open shots...assuming TJD can make that pass effectively.

I bet Bates would benefit greatly from a change like this. As would Jordan, offensively.

The flip side is could we defend adequately with Jordan, Race, and TJD on the court at the same time.

I would worry about Jordan transferring if both TJD and Race come back.

"Big 3" being
I think JG basically said if I start I’ll stay. I also think Logan is going to be asked to move on.
Must be work ethic for Logan. I really feel he can bring some special things to Bloomington after he gains 20 lbs and experience. Prolly head to Xavier and put up Nunge #s down the road for them and close to home.
I’d like to see JG start at “3”.

That's tough, who would you rather have on the roster, Race or the potential we saw from JG (for up to three more seasons)? Damn....

So, X, Race, Trayce, Geronimo, and _______.

If they cater to Bates over Galloway I may vomit.

Who’s going to shoot? I guess it doesn’t matter considering the two holes they had last year in the starting lineup.

But JG can't guard a "3," nor put the ball on the floor.

I hope he didn't say that specifically. He had some good games late in the year, but for most of the year he couldn't guard his own shadow. I'd hope he has some self awareness, or he'll never make it. Guys that end up making it never, ever, have to make those type of ultimatums. They go out and make the decisions for the coach.

As for Logan...I think it'd be a bummer if he's asked to leave. But I have no idea what Woody has in mind for how he really wants to play. Obviously thus far, Logan hasn't been it. Buuuuutt...how Woody chose to play this year wasn't wildly successful either...

Some rumors floating around that the Cavenaugh guy posted on Rivals that he heard from a player that TJD, Race and XJ are coming back.

Not saying it is gospel, just passing it along.

I wonder if Geronimo will return if Race stays.... Hmmm....
That's an interesting thought, I'm not sure that JG wouldn't be confident he could beat him out with good offseason work, so maybe it's a good non-issue. That being said, JG has a lot of work to do, he's not really a 4 by size even in college

If we return all 5 starters, how old would each be?

Get the band back together for one more classic rock arena tour?

Given Woody's predilection for distributing minutes to experienced players, I doubt JG sees this as a possibility. Also, except for the postseason, Race was by far our most consistent player.

That I wouldn't like, year 6 and no legit pro potential and taking PT from someone that could make a career out of bball for a while, somewhere

If the "Big 3" consists of Trayce, Race and Xavier, Woodson and his staff better pray for two proven, lethal, consistent three-point shooters from the portal... If not, next season will look like a carbon copy of this past season.
That assumes none of them improve.

To me, Geronimo is more of a natural SF/wing, not PF, so both should start. JG is a decent shooter, just needs to work hard on it in the off season and become a good/great shooter.
Agree, JG's task is handles and shooting. In college he can be a 3, if he has pro aspirations, he's a 2. He'd be wise to think that over or be stuck like TJD in a role that doesn't serve him well on display for the pro's. It can be done, I don't think anybody had VO going #2 over CZ, but he worked on handle and that was all he had missing
