Noodle look up The Enhanced Games
Ugh. That's insane.

I like how they have a timeline of "The Illustrious History of Performance Enhancements." Among other entries, it includes:

"The government of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) initiates state-sponsored performance therapies for its athletes.
Between 1956 and 1988, GDR athletes won 203 gold, 192 silver and 177 bronze Olympic Medals."

And this one for 1967-2023:

"Brave athletes continue to incorporate the latest scientific advancements – and set new world records – despite the risk of prosecution"
The worst may be this one for 1935:

"Anabolic steroids are first synthesized, a revolutionary moment for performance therapies.
These steroids are later used to restore the health of the survivors of Nazi concentration camps"

No one disputes that anabolic steroids have legitimate medical uses. But to suggest their non-medical use for performance enhancement is OK because, look, they even gave anabolic steroids to Nazi concentration camp survivors is utterly appalling.

They also tout how steroids can be used safely, if done properly. Do they seriously think the "athletes" competing in their freak show would actually do that? It's like removing speed bumps from the neighborhood street because people find them annoying and their cars have speedometers which tell them exactly how fast they are going.

He’s way too good for mls in his prime. He would absolutely wreck the league. Messi is old and a shadow of his former self. Mbappe would destroy it.

I wonder what team is in the works.
I just don't see how they could do a deal like this without completely ignoring the MLS monetary constraints. Is the league going to become the haves, willing to give up part ownership of their team, and the have nots - those unwilling to play along? And, is this the end of being able to see a game for $30-$50?

I also wonder if Neymar will be the next big MLS signing.

Of course it's abundantly clear that teams like Cincinnati are not going to be a part of all of this. They can't.

Our price point has been north of $100 for a ticket all year with decent tickets north of $300. There's 40,000 on a season ticket waitlist. i don't see tickets here being cheap any time soon. and as i've said before our stadium and experience are absolutely electric. best stadium experience i've ever had anywhere in any sport, but i know i'm being a little snobby but the product on the field is dog shit. our style of play is awful to watch. so once the novelty of the cool experience wears off i'd have no interest in paying that to watch crappy soccer. so it'll be interesting to see how things go here.

as for mbappe exactly. and how many deals can they do that involve revenue sharing ownership interests/equity. and will cincy or kc or stl or columbus get him or will it be the la galaxy? at what point does that get old. i've said before it'll be an interesting time going forward as the league has relied heavily on selling franchises. that's about over. so tv is what's left and maybe they recognize they have to get big names in to get viewership and tv deals. i don't know. messi is 36. you were an athlete. you know. he could wake up tomorrow and be really old. it's funny how that happens but it does. then what's the next excitement

or how about this one. they dump all the rules. let owners spend anything they want. no fair play no restrictions. spend as you like. and rebrand the league the EMLS Enhanced Major League Soccer. and change the calendar to coincide with europe

Do they even bother drug testing soccer players for performance enhancing drugs? Can't recall the last time I head of a drug suspension for a soccer player.

Ha I haven’t thought about that. They used to but I have no idea if they still do. You never hear about it

Apparently they do in the Premiere League - well, they do the tests but apparently no one has told them what they're supposed to do afterwards.

that's interesting. honestly i'm surprised it's not more. you know you hear about the top players/athletes but it seems like it would be most attractive to all of those players right on the fringe. on the cusp of no money and making it. you'd think they'd do whatever necessary to just get over the hump

I can see religious folks around the world, Muslims and Christians up in arms and complaining about this advert:

For those who don't get the prawn sandwich reference at the end of the video. It was Roy Keane's big complaint about the corporate element taking over the club -- too many corporate boxes/prawn sandwich types going to matches which kill the atmosphere.

Premier league starts this weekend. how crazy is that

They barely have 3-4 weeks off after a winter WC. Then the new FIFA rules on time keeping will be like the Qatar WC where matches will last 100 mins. Can see more players retiring from their national teams. Dollar & sense.

Plus, they will allow for more physical contact but at the same time, the refs will not allow for emotional outbursts.:rolleyes:
I don't think the refs have played the game -- more physical contact but can't show emotions?

The only sport is rugby that I know of. Bone on bone, crunching tackles but will thank the refs; very obedient or subservient to the ref.

Arteta got a yellow in the Community Shield game against City the other day.

Madness.

My prediction for this upcoming season is nothing will change -- only Arsenal has a chance to win the league because City may get complacent after winning the Treble.

Its the season after that will be more interesting -- United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Villa are rebuilding/reloading this season.

Brighton and Spurs will be in the conversation by then.

That's 9 teams for 4 slots. A mini-league.

The league/game's getting more American owned. So I can see a super league being formed in the next 5 years -- to avoid the financial risks of getting relegated.

What the heck happened in Nashville last night? Apparently Club America fans pelted Nashville players with cans of beer after the game.

Ahhhh...apparently Club America may have gotten homered. During PKs, the referee ruled the CA goalie came off his line early and allowed Nashville player to retake his shot that he had missed.

Pound Wolves like the red headed step children they are

As for Neymar, didn’t have the drive of Ronaldo or the grounded mentality of Messi. Probably not the talent either. But yeah.

I don't think it helped that he was pressured into coming back early from his injuries early in his career. I think by the time he reached him prime years his body was semi-broken.

The partying is a chicken & egg situation. Knew he wasn't the same anymore that's why he went to PSG and partying. But it didn't help recovery for sure

At first glance, I thought those uniforms were for the University of Oregon.
