Soccer

I don't think it helped that he was pressured into coming back early from his injuries early in his career. I think by the time he reached him prime years his body was semi-broken.

The partying is a chicken & egg situation. Knew he wasn't the same anymore that's why he went to PSG and partying. But it didn't help recovery for sure
And never made himself strong. Messi’s lower body is like a tree stump. Neymar held the ball, didn’t like getting kicked, and was frail. Bad combo. Ridiculous skill. I think it’s fair to say he didn’t live up to his potential. Remember his hype was massive when Barca signed him. His youth clips in Brazil were unreal

i'm going to pat myself on the back for being right, as i rarely am. the obvious difference between messi and alba and the rest of mls is the difference in the final third (and finishing). i watched inter miami's entire game last night against philadelphia. 4-1 miami. by the 80th minute philly had out shot miami 16-3. they had way more chances than miami, but their final passes, touch in the box, finishing was just awful. the one guy missed an open goal. same can be said of the inter miami players not from barca. you could see messi getting really frustrated. messi would make one of his penetrating runs right down the middle and play a perfectly weighted ball to an inter player who would proceed to shank it, drive it straight into a defender, send it a mile over everyone's head, and on and on. mls has a long way to go in terms of quality. it's fun and getting better but the difference is night and day.

Getting some pretty ugly info out of miami. apparently a guy got into a nasty brawl at gekko while trying to get a selfie with messi. he denies it but i don't believe him. security must have roughed him up pretty good. no word yet on bad bunny's involvement.

He claims he was just trying to take a picture of his wife - very likely a picture of his wife with Messi etc. in the background.

I feel so blessed to not be famous. How would I ever pick my nose?

Messi and Miami are playing in Nashville this Saturday, and me and a buddy tried to get tickets this morning as they went on sale. No dice there, so checked on Ticketmaster. Prices there start at $300 and go up to $11k.

Largest soccer specific stadium in US. 30,000
Tickets for FC Cincinnati v. Inter Miami on Aug. 23 here in Cincy start at $330. These are actually great seats as they are for The Bailey - the standing only, general admission section in one end of the stadium. Highest price is $2,620, but those are in a box and include food and drink (I think). Outside of that section seats range from $350 - $1,000 or so. Stadium seats 26,000 (though attendance for sellouts is always announced to be 25,513).

I think FCC can beat Inter Miami. Acosta will be sky high for this game. He's tough to stop when he plays in that mode. Also, while both FCC and Inter Miami play on Sunday, FCC will have had two+ weeks off before Sunday's game. Those old farts for Inter Miami are going to be tired come next Wednesday.

Absolutely. They’ll be spent! I bet Cincy wins too

Messi tix were 500+ in dallas. Maybe my Austin FC season tickets will come thru for next year as I got on the waitlist last December. I chose a Ranger ticket package over Austin FC for the new Rangers ball park in that was built to open in Covid year and 2021 but Dumbass Biden's war on the gas industry made those drives more expensive than the game so I dropped them before 22 season.

I am not a huge soccer fan to the point of watching leagues. I always watch the World cup, Copa Americas, and some of the Euro Cup or whatever it is called. I did start to watch MLS when Austin FC became a team and have become quite addicted to attending their games especially after last season. Now I have seen he Leagues cup and have some familiarity with teams in Mexico so those might be fun to watch in Espanol. lol

I have to ask this question ? Is it the low quality of the MLS compared to Euro leagues that Messi is making such big difference. Will MLS league games be tougher than League cup games? I wouldn't think so. I realize he is likely the GOAT and was obviously great but was he this dominant in the Euro leagues he played. I remember some wow plays from hm in World cup but seems everytime he touches ball in MLS, he does something amazing from his passes to shots on goal occur. I feel that Miami is going to move from last place to a title in the last third of the season right now.

I don't think miami will win it this year. the other players are a long way off from the barca players who are all super old. yes the top euro leagues are no comparison to mls. messi's touch and finishing is far above everyone in mls that he can just walk around and get a few opportunities a game and he'll put at least one away. he's a very different player than he was when he was young. look at some old barcelona videos when he had long hair. simply unreal. he would make runs inside his own half where he'd beat four, five, six players. now he plays like he's playing over 40.

Lionel Messi: I never wanted to join Paris Saint-Germain

Lionel Messi has said that joining Inter Miami has brought him happiness again and was in stark contrast to the two years he endured playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Poor guy -- got paid like $55million annually and then was so unhappy to have played for them.

It would be like me being forced to sleep with Charlize Theron for a couple of years ... and now claiming that I am much happier with Margot Robbie.

Why is there so much injustice in this world...

Saw a kid yesterday in U13 (2010’s) game who was ridiculous. Good teams too. Left wing (ish - he went anywhere). Would routinely draw three defenders to the sideline, corner, endline. Nutmegs, feints. Couldn’t take it from him in a phone booth. Max 4’10” and 100lbs. Seriously. Never seen anything like it at that age group. Even the more physically mature kids couldn’t touch him.

He was literally like Messi in the MLS.

Interesting, though I am always very skeptical when people try to diagnose whether someone is on the Autism spectrum. Still, I suppose it could, in theory, contribute to his extraordinary field vision (not sure if that's the correct football terminology).

Things are getting a bit wacky here in Cincy ahead of tomorrow night. Supposedly a local bakery announced they were selling Messi cookies but they got so much heat they pulled them online. See photo below (not sure if this is from the bakery or someone else).

Then it was announced that a local TV station (that used to carry FCC games before Apple) acquired the right to show the game. On top of that, they are also going to show the game live on the big screen on Fountain Square - something that I only recall being done for Bengals' playoff games. Also, as expected, ticket prices are starting to slide a little bit as people are getting worried about not being able to make $. I've seen a few tickets in the $250 range ($288 is the lowest price currently). I think we'll see them below $200 by gametime.

The prices I have been quoting are with all fees. I only show them that way when using the app. That way I don't get as annoyed by them.

I do get to see FCC play NYCFC on Saturday. Tickets for that game currently start at $47

Your wingman is going to be pumped!! Maybe messi won't even play tomorrow. i ran into the great bill mcdermott at sbx this morning. longest serving soccer broadcaster in america. we were talking about messi sitting in cincy to get geared up to try to make the playoffs. road games. turf games. it won't be easy from where they sit. bill told me a great story about beckham. he was doing the crew galaxy game and beckham had accumulated a bunch of yellows. one more and he would have to sit out. beckham knew the next game was on astroturf so he intentionally got another yellow so he wouldn't have to play. he said zlatan had it built into his contract that he didn't have to play on turf accdg to bill. not sure that's true. bill's old. anyway messi said he's okay on turf but at some point he's going to get drained

They have already announced he's starting tomorrow night. It's also on grass (well, technically a hybrid, but it's a beautiful surface that players rave about.

And a portion of the fans would riot if does not play.

He's clearly from the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati.
Funny sidenote: he's an alum of Montana State University (Billings).

Good friends' daughter is a freshman at Montana State (in Bozeman). Their freshman orientation was 5 days hiking and camping in the wilderness of Montana.

good read. cincy has a great soccer history. i used to play there as a little kid in the queen city invitational. germans. kolping society. etc. whenever pro leagues would pop up cincy would always be there. the old comets in ASL. riverhawks in that miserable usisl. they had an misl team during the glory years when indoor was outdrawing the nhl in some spots. i can't remember what they were called tho

now over $300. i don't understand how seatgeek works. it's almost game time. what do they do with the tickets that aren't sold?

I thought the only tickets for sale now are by individual sellers - not SeatGeek or MLS.
