Rhule vs Cignetti

Ehh, its a beat writer who is looking for positivity and using Cignetti to compare against Rhules approach.

With that being said, this quote in the article made me laugh, "Pot roast slow cooked in a crock pot always beats a nuked burrito." It seems to be quite the contradiction to what the entire article was trying to convey, considering 2 weeks ago the burrito happened to nuke the crock pot along with the pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onions.....and corn. 56-7

Dumb premise. Assumes Cignetti won't be able to backfill going forward. If he can find that production to go to JMU he can find it to go to the Big Ten. Plus he got transfers from other schools also. This year's favorable schedule might not always be there but if he sticks with looking for production over star rankings, I don't see why success won't continue. And I doubt a 60+ year old coach with the discipline he and this staff have shown will all of a sudden get star struck by 4 or 5 star recruits. He's already addressed his plan to start building the foundation with high school kids in the regular recruiting cycle. If anything this year's success will help with recruiting. To me something to look for will be how well he can replace assistants if they get bigger offers elsewhere.

The biggest hurdle they're going to face going forward is when other teams adopt the Moneyball approach too and it becomes a lot harder to find those G5 diamonds who can play.

Replacing his assistants will be key. We all know how Allen did in that department. In CIG we trust.

I think that's where the skill of talent evaluation comes into play. PU threw money at SEC castoffs this year and think Allen did that a bit too - didn't amount to much. Finding the talent and character that fits isn't something everyone can do. I'd argue that's been an issue with our other big sport lately.

News flash: the transfer portal has made the crock pot approach obsolete. The 1984 Bill Mallory rebuild where he redshirts 25 kids and builds for the 1986, 1987, and 1988 seasons isn't necessary in today's college football landscape.

Cignetti will probably have very good transfer players wanting to come to Indiana. The amount of attention and press Cignetti and IU are receiving is mind boggling.

Boo hoo!! This guy’s obviously more fan than writer.

While we fans are loving this, does this clown honestly think we fans feel 8-0 will be the standard in future years? Hell, no!!

But exceeding IU’s football past, say going on average 8-4, may be more attainable than what this fanboy writer thinks if it’s their former glory days of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s he thinks Nebraska can return to.

Writes such a stupid article with the 'strong take' that we aren't like to be as successful (undefeated at this point) next year. Since the odds are against it, can write something about growing slowly, and getting beaten..., is better, and then pretend to be right if we lose some games, even if the team is good again, which it will be.

Nothing against Rhule, this writer shouldn't have used him though, makes Rhule look bad actually.

Did he use Cig's quotes in the article about how much homegrown talent Cig wants as our long term base? He's said it a fair bit.

We don't need to work that hard to find them after this season... They'll go out of their way to find us...

Players want to be coached by a staff that can get them in "the League" and they want to play for Championships and prove themselves at the highest level of college football while having a legitimate shot at starting... We check all those boxes... Anyone hoping for a major drop off next year or the year after will be sorely disappointed...

First the writers (and several posters including me) doubted Cignetti could win with all the Sunbelt and MAC guys trying to play in the Big Ten now he's being ripped as only winning because of them... 🙄

I ate my crow and have given these guys and this staff their due respect... This clown needs to do the same...

Rhule will be lucky to last past the next two seasons with the detasslers... Those people are legends in their own mind and many of them are completely unhinged from reality...

Correct. I've mentioned this in other threads. Cig will find guys to replace guys, the challenge is finding enough money. D1 athletic departments budgets are going to change dramatically next year.
Well isn’t the assistant’s bonus clause in CCC’s contract intended to keep them at IU. I think most will stay. They will need to get FU money to leave.

Here is what We need to look at. Cignetti came into a situation where the Coaching change led to a lot of Player turnover. He had to work quickly and fortunately had connections through James Madison and the Sunbelt Conference to find experienced Players Who had histories of being productive and could play in the Big 10. Long term that may not work Year to Year. But now He has the best of both Worlds. With a Year under his belt, He and his staff should now have connections to high school programs and with the success the program has had, there has to be wide spread interest in that recruiting pool. And now He has proven He can bring in transfers from various programs, get Them to buy into His system and play effectively. So there should be interest there also.
I would expect fewer transfers and more high School recruits going forward, so He can have more consistency with Players Who may stay in his System for 4 or 5 years.

And who knows exactly what the NIL & portal will look like down the road. Agree, Coach Cig has the best of both worlds.

It is clear the writer is using sour grapes due to Nebraska get boat raced by IU and playing OSU tough. It will be interesting to see what IUFB can do over the final games this season.
