Rhule vs Cignetti

Ehh, its a beat writer who is looking for positivity and using Cignetti to compare against Rhules approach.

With that being said, this quote in the article made me laugh, "Pot roast slow cooked in a crock pot always beats a nuked burrito." It seems to be quite the contradiction to what the entire article was trying to convey, considering 2 weeks ago the burrito happened to nuke the crock pot along with the pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onions.....and corn. 56-7

Dumb premise. Assumes Cignetti won't be able to backfill going forward. If he can find that production to go to JMU he can find it to go to the Big Ten. Plus he got transfers from other schools also. This year's favorable schedule might not always be there but if he sticks with looking for production over star rankings, I don't see why success won't continue. And I doubt a 60+ year old coach with the discipline he and this staff have shown will all of a sudden get star struck by 4 or 5 star recruits. He's already addressed his plan to start building the foundation with high school kids in the regular recruiting cycle. If anything this year's success will help with recruiting. To me something to look for will be how well he can replace assistants if they get bigger offers elsewhere.

The biggest hurdle they're going to face going forward is when other teams adopt the Moneyball approach too and it becomes a lot harder to find those G5 diamonds who can play.

Replacing his assistants will be key. We all know how Allen did in that department. In CIG we trust.

I think that's where the skill of talent evaluation comes into play. PU threw money at SEC castoffs this year and think Allen did that a bit too - didn't amount to much. Finding the talent and character that fits isn't something everyone can do. I'd argue that's been an issue with our other big sport lately.

News flash: the transfer portal has made the crock pot approach obsolete. The 1984 Bill Mallory rebuild where he redshirts 25 kids and builds for the 1986, 1987, and 1988 seasons isn't necessary in today's college football landscape.

Cignetti will probably have very good transfer players wanting to come to Indiana. The amount of attention and press Cignetti and IU are receiving is mind boggling.
