Purdue/MSU

This season is far from over.
Indeed it is and they could very well finish under .500 this season. However you said it would be the "3rd straight sub .500 season" which simply isn't true. But you're correct that they'll likely miss the NCAAT for the third year in a row.

We've been far under .500 in the BIG10 combined over the past 3 seasons. I couldn't care less about what we do against cupcakes in the pre conference, it doesn't mean anything. I'm not sure why you are arguing this anyway, the point is that we've sucked for the past 3 seasons and are once again looking to miss the tourney this year.

So now it's a combined record. If you said what you meant in the first place instead of running in circles then claiming you meant something other than what you said, I wouldn't have argued. The way you originally stated it simply wasn't correct.

Whatever, what's the point of arguing this anyway? We suck again, so we're both wasting our time. The point is, we root for a shit*y program that has no business talking crap about teams that have flat out owned us. It's petty and unbecoming.

That we can agree on

Honestly can’t believe our fans make fun of Matt Painter. He’s owned us the last 5 or so years. If he truly can’t recruit, he’s either a hell of a developer of talent, a hell of a coach, or both.
Crean was our coach: does that really count?

And Archie is 0-2, coming off a 15 point thrashing with another coming up. Purdue is the way better program right now and IU has no room to say a word about them until we actually accomplish something.

You didn't want Gordon, Zeller, Oladipo, Langford, etc.? That is a stupid and sorry rationalization for poor recruiting and means you don't care about winning big. You can't win big without the big names.
loyola of chicago? how many big names do you think they have

This is simply an ignorant post from an embittered Iu-obsessed troll. Both schools are excellent from an academic and research standpoint, they compliment each other by design. Their entrance standards and student score profiles are virtually identical.

The advantage IU has, besides the obvious campus, cultural, restaurant and bar scene and better looking students aspects is that most IU majors tend to support business and corporate advancement better than the techy majors. This is why so many PU grads work for IU grads and perhaps why PU grads like this one tend to be so bitter with respect to IU discussions.
You are truly dilusional.

Well, I graduated from one of IU's law school, passed the bar in Indiana, and am a practicing lawyer. If you haven't done any of the aforementioned, you should shut your mouth about stuff you know nothing about. IUB's law schools is top 40 and IU Indy is top 100. PU doesn't even have one. Most of the highest ranked law schools are private. In the Big 10 for undergrad, there is Northwestern, Michigan, and everybody else: it is cute you believe otherwise.

IU has one of the most beautiful campuses and best social scenes. PU's campus and social scene do not come close. PU's campus is dog poo. PU's women don't compare to IU's. Bloomington has a bigger population than Lafayette, lol.

Basketball wise, IU has actually won national championships, while PU has not. You can call them dusty, but they exist. PU is a never has been. Painter has faced Archie twice, lol. Painter sucks at recruiting, and he sucks in the NCAA's. Painter should have been fired a long time ago. Your court is named after a coach that couldn't even make the Final Four. Once again, show you can recruit and win at a national level, and then we will talk.

PU football is a .500 program. Brohm is the most over rated, over hyped below .500 coach in the country. IU won 4 Buckets in a row very recently. PU football does not have the history that IU basketball does, yet PU fans like you like to pretend it does. Brohm goes 6-7 and gets the biggest ass whipping in bowl game history and here you are, lol.

Attorneys? My condolences. any discussion debating who has the best law school is like discussing if I prefer the electric chair to lethal injection. OMG, the US has more attorneys that most countries have people. How sad is that? Our country has lost momentum to the Asians because we have more Lawyers than we do Engineers, who actually create value. Our country is finally waking up to the de-emphasis of STEM curriculum in high schools....finally. Purdue is leading the way in that area by actually taking over high schools in underfunded school districts around the state. I think for IU we should be touting the Med school. It is fantastic.

To be throwing stones at each other is just stupid. Sure when we play Purdue have fun with the trash talking, etc. but at other times stop acting like children. IU, Purdue, ND, Butler all in the State?? Awesome!

With all respect to IU, Purdue has only increased the distance between the two schools academically over the last couple decades, and that’s been the case with Mitch, too. Not saying IU isn’t solid academically, but Purdue is at another level and it’s become more exclusive in admissions while being more affordable. Check any independent review of US colleges and universities and this reality is consistently in evidence.

That Purdue has better football and basketball programs only makes it sweeter!
Second best engineering school in Indiana, and, according to US News and World Reports, third best in B1G.

or another way to look at is the US has the most lawyers because because we have the most freedoms to protect. try suing your employer in china. Seriously, try it. :)

Asia, outside of Japan and S Korea, is desperately trying to catch up in technology but making their kids become engineers alone won't do it. A highly developed economy needs cheap and/ or good natural transportation (think good navigable rivers and good natural ocean ports) and a developed domestic market to easily generate capital/ drive innovation. China has none of that. Their industries, while even more subsidized than the US, operate on insanely small profit margins. They'll even lose money to maintain higher employment. And all those Asian kids that come over for engineering degrees? most want to stay here and some data suggests more than half of them do.

I like our new found emphasis on STEM but the need for it is slightly overstated. Our dynamic markets shape future career choices more than anything else. Americans follow the money because it's just so damn easy to do here. It also thankfully leaves room for lawyers, poets, social workers, and porn stars.

okay, i'm off the soap box. just my two cents. lol

Or we have so many lawyers due to injuries/deaths caused by faulty products designed by engineers. (TIC)

Complete agreement with your last point.

Disagree. I am correct, PU is a fine academic institution.

Only 5 universities have more Fortune 500 CEOs than Purdue. Unfortunately, we aren’t even in the top 30. I really don’t get your overwhelming hate for Purdue, particularly in areas where they are equal or better than IU. Makes us all look bad. Be humble.

Puke? Just because I don’t make up facts, don’t act like an emotional child on a message board, or don’t have ultimate hate for Purdue, doesn’t make me a “puke”.

Back to watching the game. Enjoy your night and try to smile.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You're watching Matt Painter for the 14th time now: you know how the story ends. He's not going to bring in the Jimmy's and Joe's necessary to win big, and he'll never make it past the Sweet 16. You are wasting your time as a fan.
Insanity might also be SAYING the same thing over and over again.

Archie probably should not have honored the commitments to Crean's recruits. At the time, I was glad he did.

You are correct and incorrect. You are correct in that USN&WR has Purdue ranked #9 nationally among Engineering programs that grant doctorates. Michigan and Illinois are tied for sixth in their ranking.

However, you are incorrect in stating that Purdue is second in the state of Indiana. The only other school ranked high is Rose-Hulman. However, R-H is ranked in the group that does not give doctorates. So you are trying to make a comparison using USN&WR numbers that are from different groups and you cannot do that validly.

For example, IUPUI is now in 4th place in the Horizon League. IU is 11th in the BIG. If we were to make comparisons like your post suggests, the conclusion would be that IUPUI is the far better team based upon 4th vs 11th places. However, the B1G is a vastly better league, so the conclusion of IUPUI being better would not be necessarily valid.

As they said in math class: you can compare apples and apples; you can compare oranges and oranges; but you cannot compare apples and oranges.

You really don't sound smart enough to be a lawyer. Or I guess you could be a very poor one.

You hang out in the cyber world of trespass, identity theft, harrassment, and stalking. You are a criminal: pretty impressive stuff. What would you know about being an attorney? Nothing, LOL

If a tree falls in the woods and there is nobody around to hear it, does it make a sound? Ignored. Loser. Go make a new user name. Get a job.

China is far from a backward country. Their economy is on track to surpass us the the world. With our help and their theft of technology they are well positioned. I am sure you are aware that they have a lunar module on the moon as we speak.

yes, a nation of 1.4 billion is about to pass a nation of 300 mil in GDP and still it's per capita gdp is behind Kazakhstan's. They put an object on the moon some 60 years after the US put a human on the moon. The US now has a probe that has left the solar system. what china is doing is impressive but it's paper airplanes compared to NASA.

never said china was backward. in world history China has always carried a lot of weight. their times of strength and weakness have always shaped asian geopolitics and will continue to do so. but being a builder of things, especially low-tech things, means you are at the bottom of a volatile supply chain. they are making strides in tech, even when not stealing it, but still have a long way to go. add to that the factory jobs that are leaving China as their wages grow and become less competitive (see Vietnam, Indonesia). their current 6% growth also means their economy can't outgrow the debt their putting on their local governments (see China's shiny, newly built ghost towns). yes, $3 trillion in foreign currency reserves is cool until you wonder why they hold the currency of more developed economies and why they aren't investing that money in their own economy. it's because they have no where else to put it.

china, based on a couple millennia of history, goes through cycles of breaking apart every 100 to a few hundred years and then coming back together. their coasts become rich due to trade and foreign tech, their inland provinces get left behind, a war between the haves and have nots ensues, and the cycle begins all over again.

china is being sold to us as the next bogey man...the next great threat to the US... like Russia and Japan before them. it's all nonsense. america, because of our unique geography and lack of strong threatening neighbors, just has too much advantage. the real threat, as students of geopolitics know, is another superpower that is able to dominate a continent. that's why we jumped into ww1 and ww2 when it looked like germany was winning. our biggest threat would be japan's tech coupled with China's manpower or Germany's tech partnered with Russia's manpower. but we'll use the fake threat of china to bump up military spending just the same. i mean, china doesn't even have the expeditionary capabilities to take taiwan, a nation of just 25 million that is 120 miles off it's coast. to put in context, italy would have a better chance of doing that.

all that said, you can tell i love discussing this shit. lol. bring it on! good discourse!

Much more difficult to get into Rose. Almost everyone of Rose's students graduate in four years. Over 90% of Rose students were in the top 10% of their high school classes. Rose is ranked, almost every year, by USNWR and the #1 School of Engineering in the country. Occasionally, Harvey Mudd will beat them out. I wish Rose offered PhD's. Then you would have no argument.

You are again trying to compare apples and oranges. You are citing top 10% in their HS classes for RH's Engineering and other technical programs but then stating that is better than Purdue's admissions. That is true, because you are including the data for the Ag school, RHI programs, etc.

If you wanted to make a valid comparison, you would take the admission data for the RH Engineering program and the same data for the Purdue Engineering program. That would be an apples and apples comparison. But you are not doing that, perhaps intentionally to try to make a point.

Here's what you need to know: the best professors in the STEM fields go to places where they can get grant money and do research. That means that they have doctoral programs. That's where you publish in scientific and engineering literature. That's where the cutting edge stuff happens.

I am not knocking RH. I think that it is a solid school. But if you are going to compare the academic reputations of the similar programs you will find that RH comes up on the short end. The amount of grant money going into Purdue's STEM programs dwarfs RH's.
