Player transferring without entering portal

This is a crazy story. If this goes through, teams literally have zero leverage with players.
Does it have to be a formal transfer? Can’t a player simply withdraw from classes and say they don’t like the school? Does that keep you from receiving a scholarship at the next school? What I’m getting at, is it more than just “it looks bad”?

That's basically what he did. He tried to enter the portal, Wisconsin wouldn't let him so he withdrew from classes and enrolled at Miami.
 
I have never said anything like this or believe it's the answer to much of anything, but.... House & Senate please intervene.

This is simply the step between “officially” entering the portal and being able to transfer and play mid season. We could’ve bought a couple big ass linemen right before the ND game.
 
So the whole transfer process is pretty much just a courtesy. Like giving two weeks notice.

I would think UW would be able to sue Mr. Lucas for breach on contract. Maybe they did, or schools will, have non-compete clauses.
