Parenting and teenage parties

I tend to fancy myself as a expert in this field considering I've already had one kid graduate and currently have another ad a senior that is still going strong.

My oldest was definitely our problem child. She had the wild group of friends and would have been most likely to have been pregnant and dropped out, but she buckled down and got things done. That's not to say she didn't go a little HAM in her days. What we always said was we don't condone you drinking, but if you do, stay wherever you are but also we are just a phone call away, no judgement on our side. We had a tracker on her phone and she would tell us where she was going. She graduated after her junior year.

My current senior is a savage. She is very faith driven, so she really doesn't do the whole party scene very much. She's my kid that just Sunday night, went on a date with a guy and right after they got to the movies, in which he paid, she said she got the sense that he was wanting more so she hit him with the "I don't feel good, I've got cramps" excuse and just left. I couldn't have been more proud of her.

I think it comes down to you have to trust your kids to do the right thing, and if they don't, turn their mistake into a lesson for them to learn from. No one kid is the same, so my experience is probably going to be different then every one else's.

Just get them to college alive, that's always been the goal. We didn't want to shelter them so much that they wouldn't be independent enough to live on their own if they went away to college.
You’re doin good Boogerballer. Girls seem much harder

How no one was killed in that incident almost makes me believe in baby jesus. Very disturbing
B/c he didn't really want to kill anybody. He just wanted attention and he knows if he pops off a gun in a store, he'll get it.

0 for 6. IU has better 3 pt shooting.

They argue better than boys. It's intuitive. Instinctual. And they know if they make you mad, they won.

Super frustrating.

The selectivity is the kicker. And these daughters, they know what they're doing. They watch mom.

But they are the physically weaker sex. The evolution of the female home sapien is amazing. Psychologially speaking, they are MILES ahead. It's no shocker than as they've taken advantage of their rights, they've zoomed past boys. In an economy dependent on emotional intelligence, they're going to bury us.

Take what you can get because when they move out, you'll be yearning for those calls and texts that don't come as often.

Would rather them turn to me or the wife for even the little things then someone else.

That didn't happen in the neighborhood where I grew up, but it is an area I would say was my old stomping grounds. That was all middle class and considered the "snob" area just 20 to 25 years ago. It really has kind of gone downhill which is sad. Not that it is Uber dangerous but there have been some pretty high profile crazy things in areas that were like hangout spots for me as a pre-teen to teenager.

This was another. The reasons why are a tale as old as time.
Any time I see a junior doing something stupid, I look up criminal records for senior. As expected, Dad spent the kid's formative years locked up for stealing copper pipe from a construction site.

Nope, they can't count. There are like 7 women Bitcoiners. How do I know the exact number you ask? I'm in love with all of them.

Yeah, but every once in a while, we can give them a little spanking, so it's all good.[1]

My son is currently doing an investing competition with some of his friends via an app. Guess where I told him he should put all his money?

If he can't buy BTC ETFs, tell him to buy Microstrategy (they own over 200k Bitcoins on their balance sheet). It's went crazy already this year, so it's as frothy as it gets, but I think it will run more if Bitcoin continues to go up. He will either win or get last place.

I love it. You have to start them young. My oldest son was asking my wife on Sunday if he could get a PS5 if Bitcoin goes to a million. I smiled and started laughing. I haven't been that proud in a long time.

A charcuterie board for the Dream Team would be Vienna sausages, Ritz, and Easy Cheese. Shouldn't be difficult.
If there aren't at least 3 types of venison summer sausage in Auburn (one has to be jalapeno & cheddar), then I'll be dissapointed in that organization.

I thought the same thing, but I guess that's the Mandela Effect. In real life, Cheez Whiz was sauce in a jar, and the aerosol cans were Easy Cheese.

Unless you were talking about the sauce. But I wasn't. Ritz crackers only go with aerosol cheese.
Cheese whiz comes in an aerosol can now. Not sure when that happened or if it's always been available like that.

This was on the spread at every Saturday night card party that my parents took me to in the 70s. Way more environmentally friendly than some aerosol can and not nearly as uppity.

They have nice lot sizes, but it has never been a good neighborhood, at least for the last 30 years.

Fair enough. I'm not familiar with it specifically. The area itself was always decent, 45 years ago when I was in HS.

Coporate/commerical real estate and property mgmt going to the birds. We have an office in the DFW area inside a larger commerical campus. The bldg this office is in (and we're talking 60 people alone in the office we've got) has no vending machines. None. Zero. YOu have to go three bldgs over to get a coke.

Wtf
Sure as shit I was just bragging about our building and I just walked in and was informed the water is out 🤣

I thought Cheez Whiz was the stuff in aerosol cans. Oh well, I haven't had any in years. I need to fix that. Ritz crackers and Cheez - can't beat it.

Yeah, this is smack in FW Snider's school district, and not too far from where I grew up. I don't know this specific neighborhood but back in the day it was likely considered a pretty nice suburban location. The whole area has been slipping over the years, as neighborhoods tends to do as people have moved northwest or southwest. My mom still lives there.
Was it around Arlington Park? We lived there in the mid-80s and it was a nice area. Guy we bought our house from taught at Snider, but I think it's Northrup now?

The biggest dick shriveler line ever.

Wife came in the house a couple days ago, takes off her jacket and walks over to me in the kitchen and puts a pregnancy test down on the counter.

She says she's either pregnant or going through menopause. I looked at her and without a thought, asked who the dad was.

I learned real quick its menopause she's going through.

So Brad Jr. went to his first high school party last night. Kid he knew since elementary school threw it. He and a neighbor went together (walked to it).

30 minutes later they're back at my house. They left because it was "boring." About 100 kids, lots of girls, some dressed in quite revealing Halloween outfits (learned this from another neighbor whose daughter went and stayed until the end). Lots of alcohol there--beer, liquor. Parents knew, supplied some, and were there at the time. When I asked, so what was boring about it, Brad Jr. said "they were just standing around listening to music." (I'm guessing part of it was fear).

By 10 pm, several kids were hammered (per my other source) including a few girls who were "crossed"--for the uninitiated, that means both high and drunk. The parents then told the kids to leave (many kids also brought backpacks of booze into the party, by the way) and when they didn't go quickly, called the cops on their own party and it was broken up by the police.

So, for parents out there, how do you feel about this? I'm OK with my son experiencing it (and kinda wished he had stayed longer to see actual drunk people act stupidly and just get used to an environment like that) but am really turned off by parents hosting a party with booze for 14 and 15 year olds. I guess I'm a full-fledged parent now, because all I could think of was, what happens if one of those kids gets hit by a car while walking home hammered (this is an urban suburb, so everything is pretty close)? Or the girls get harassed, or worse, walking around at night, drunk, in a sexy outfit?
Parents should be charged and arrested.

Arlington Park is off Stellhorn, but is further east on the other side of Maplecrest Rd. This took place near Stellhorn and Reed Rd. Not terribly far away, but surely a notch or two down from Arlington Park. Though I haven't been through Arlington Park in 30 years so I guess I don't really know.

According to the less reputable members of my family, that whole area east of Hobson is getting "too dark."

I drove through Arlington Park about 15 years ago and it looked 'old'. What I remembered as a fairly new addition looked like it had aged quite a bit. Used to be nothing between there and town, but it's filled in now with houses and businesses.

I don't know about "too dark," but I feel as if these homes haven't aged all that well and the values have drifted into the range of a poorer demographic than would have been the case 40 years ago. My mom's neighborhood is east of Maplecrest but a bit further north, near Rothman Road. They built that house in the late 1970's when the neighborhood was new. Today they all look a bit run down, and I tend to think that the build quality common at that time was just not at the highest level. Everything seems cheap. But mom's neighborhood has drifted more towards the demographic that I'm imagining might include the less reputable members of Goat's family. Though he was a lawyer so the notion of "less reputable" than that is actually rather disturbing.
