A good opinion piece from Jeff Greenfield. Not a new opinion, but I like that he tied it to Orwell who was a man ahead of his time:

Actually, the best proof that Orwell (and Greenfield here) was at least partially right about messaging and these issues was the partial success of Bernie Sanders in his run against Hillary Clinton. He has a more down-to-earth speaking style and image that the true socialists would do well to copy. AOC's Twitter-celebrity style, I think, turns off a lot of working class people and her hobnobbing with celebrities reinforces the image of a champagne socialist.

Preachy and judgmental and devoid of common sense. As the article notes crime was on a downturn since the 90s until two years ago. The Defund the Police anti cop initiatives and rhetoric were devoid of common sense and not supported by data. Just virtue - signaling stupidity. What's more the working class, I suspect, cares little about LGBTQ issues and is more preoccupied with economics and everyday living. The Left led by AOC and Cori Bush and Harris and Pete cut their noses off to spite their faces with all the woke/cultural stuff. Now they'll pay for it in Nov. In kind, the Republicans are making the same "cultural" mistakes with their abortion silliness.

A smart candidate would focus on meat and potatoes issues: inflation; crime; schools. Let culture deal with itself, along with the courts.

I've long been interested in some kind of guaranteed income for those impoverished. I suspect the free cheese Biden gave out that has been tied to exacerbating inflation will torpedo that in the future. I think that's a shame as I would have liked to have seen how a basic income for the truly impoverished would work during "normal" non pandemic times

Add the dimension of identity politics and remove Trump and republicans should dominate the next decade of elections. But too many Trumpy idiots won’t allow that and as such we’ll be at stalemate. I’ll take stalemate over Progressivism any day of the week.

As long as it gets to the recipients. This sh!t is getting old man. It happens all the time.

  • Haywood Talcove, the CEO of LexisNexis Risk Solutions, estimates that at least 70% of the money stolen by impostors ultimately left the country, much of it ending up in the hands of criminal syndicates in China, Nigeria, Russia and elsewhere.
  • "These groups are definitely backed by the state," Talcove tells Axios.
  • Much of the rest of the money was stolen by street gangs domestically, who have made up a greater share of the fraudsters in recent months.
