That was so depressing. It made me feel old AF just watching it. Since I was out until 1:00am watching that shit, I have to run errands all day today with the ole lady. It’s all bullshit.
Ha. I’m good friends with a neighbor so it was a short to his basement wherein we drank beer and whiskey and bitches about the Netflix app and fight commentary.
That and for Netflix to practice for the NFL. Epic fail I heard.
Netflix is already doing NFL Thursday nights I believe, but I haven't tried watching.
That's Amazon. But apparently Netflix scored one of the big Xmas games.
Thursday night football is Amazon Prime. I think Amazon sells some of their capacity to Netflix.

One of the things that makes Jagr so unique is that he played in the NHL for almost 20 years, wasn't offered a contract, left to play in Russia for a few years, then came back to the NHL for 7 or 8 years, then went to his hometown to play for about 6 more years. On local radio they just said the average nhl shift is 30-45 seconds. So if you lose the face off you could spend your shift just chasing lol. Dumbest shit ever.
I’d play 3 minute shifts. Slow it way down. Control the game.
When the other guys are skating as fast as they can and hitting you, slowing it down is not an option.
I actually told my kids coach about your idea and he chuckled. He actually said “Have that guy come down to Johnie’s Ice House one night and he can play on my team. See how he handles it.”
Just let me know when you’re up for it. Hockey groupies are kinda wild, too.

Negative. They’ve been conditioned to play that way bc they don’t know any other way. I’d control tempo. And the game. Chemistry is impossible with 30 second shifts

If you ever smelled a hockey locker room or gear bag you would understand that they work their asses off in those 45 second bursts. It is the most God awful smell you can imagine.
As for 3 minute shifts - ROFL. Your team would be utterly useless.

Your team would be crawling on all fours to the bench about 1:45 into their shift midway through the third period.
You would have loved my GS’s varsity HS power play. They played it slow,, 4 players passing the puck around the perimeter with a rover in the center trying to muscle his way for a SOG. They didn’t take very many shots this way, but the percentage of success was a little above average. That style required good stick and puck guys and not necessarily good skaters. The second shift on the power play was more conventional.
When I could, I watched most games standing next to the glass. The speed and skill at the 5A high school level was amazing. Good skaters with good stick skills. Fun to watch. I don’t think the coaching staff counted turn overs like they do in basketball, but they were well aware of which players were more prone to turnovers.
Do you remember fat guy medium guy skinny guy hockey. It took a while to figure out the right combo didn’t it.

My kid's last team played grunt hockey. Not too many skilled stick and puck handlers, so they dumped it most of the time, chased, and battled in the corners. Lots of physicality, lots of goals scored on happenstance pucks getting in front of the net and someone deflecting it in. My kid is small and slow but he battles and plays smart.
His new team is way more finesse. Few of them battle, fewer hit. If they aren't trying to score on a breakaway or breakout, it's almost like they don't care and won't rush to get into the offensive zone and just grind. I didn't realize how much there is to appreciate with the other version of hockey.
Sunday, though, some kid finally sent it in along the boards from the opposite side of my kid and he was ready. Skated down, got the puck coming around the corner and made the defenseman commit. As soon as he started skating at him, he made a quick pass to the goal and miracle of all miracles, a kid was skating to the goal, received the pass, and chipped it by the goalie. Beautiful stuff. Just hope the coach starts getting on these kids about how to play.
