1. What do we know about Michigan State and how we match up?
2. Anyone have inside info on Rourke? He had two screws placed in the thumb of his throwing hand. Do they stay there forever? Removed after a few weeks?
3. My guess is Jackson plays again. If so, we will again need the D and Run game to help.

1. QB is a dynamic athlete. Much more of a run threat than most QBs we've faced thus far. He's struggled, for the most part, throwing the ball. I think our zone oriented defensive approaches should be a pretty good matchup against him/them. Defensively, they're pretty solid, overall. I think the Washington game will have been a great prep for MSU and Michigan. Washington's defense is probably at Michigan's level in terms of talent and physicality.

2. No info other than what has been reported. I would be surprised if he plays. But I'm already surprised its even a discussion. I'm not sure Jackson is a different enough player that we'd be using it as any sort of strategy to throw them off? He isn't enough of a running threat for MSU to game plan a ton differently. So I suspect there is a chance he could play, if they're saying there's a chance. I'll believe it when I see it though.

3. Agreed. I would guess the game will have a similar flow and feel to the Washington game. With a major difference being in East Lansing. More worried about this one than Washington or Nebraska, despite MSU not being as good as either of those teams.

They let an anemic offense like UM get 24 points. Supposedly their strength on D is against the run. They’ve not had a sack in, I believe, 4 games. I think we should go for at least 31 or more with TJ and continued strong run game. Hopefully more.

Their QB is a very good athlete who makes some wow plays with both his feet and arm, but throws a lot of picks, so decision-making poor. Hoping IU D can give him lots of confusing looks. Their frosh WR is a real problem. Big, strong, fast. Look for Ponds to be matched up with him, hopefully with some help. IU DL should be able to get after the QB, but will need to not let him get loose.

All I know about M$U is that they lit up Iowa's D for 40 points and they just ran inside successfully against MI who's supposed to have one of the top D lines in college football...

If you add an inside running game with a QB (Chiles) that can run and throw (which they have) then you have your hands full when it comes to defending their Offense.. They have a solid RB (Carter), a decent TE (Velling) and a dangerous freshman WR (Marsh)... Throw in an Offensive Line that can clearly run block and we've got problems...

Fortunately the M$U Defense doesn't look as formidable as their Offense... They don't swarm the ball and they'll be missing their starting ILB for the first Half... The backup (ILB) is from Old Dominion so at least one of our players and several of our coaches are familiar with his tendencies...

Their starting Long Snapper (who appeared to have had either a knee or ankle injury versus MI) played for James Madison last season (boy did he chose poorly)... If he plays against us his injury might give us some enhanced return possibilities on punts... If the starter doesn't play his backup might provide some kick block possiblities...

Historically, the Spartans have at least one, or sometimes even two, prepaid Big Ten Ref(s) leaning their way when we play them, so watch for the no calls when it comes to their OL Holding and their DB's committing Pass Interference..., while the same type of calls Are made against us...

I expect our toughest game of the year up there. Let's hope we can keep our Win streak going...

Good post, good content, except the paragraph about the refs. That argument provided some solace when we were losing, but this is the NEW Indiana. It doesn't make any sense that the refs would have an officiating bias in favor of Michigan State and against us this season.

I'm not looking for solace... I expect it to happen (as it usually has) and this time I expect us to find a way to overcome it...

I keep mentioning it because A) it's a FACT and B) I'm hoping upon hope that if enough others see it eventually the Big Ten will be forced to deal with it...

We're not the only ones it happens to so eventually there should be a mechanism to find a way to resolve the issue... If comes down to an FBI point shaving (by the Refs..., with the Big Ten front offices being complicit) investigation then so be it..., they brought it on themselves...

Ask Nebraska what they thought about their getting a fair shake over at "the" o-h-i-o $tate last weekend...

Nebraska had one of those refs 2 weeks ago, but he gave up after we went up 28-7.

Not so fast my friend …

In conference games (@Maryland, Ahia State , @Oregon, Iowa, @Michigan) they score 19. We score 42.

In conference games, they allow 27. We allow 18.

In conference games, they have lost 5 fumbles and 4 interceptions. We’ve lost 2 and 4.

In conference games they have 1 sack. We have 14.

Tackles for loss, conference, they have 21, we have 30.

In yet another “toughest opponent yet” - we roll them bichez.

On paper for certain..., unfortunately none of our stats or rankings carry over to the next games scoreboard...

We should beat them..., but I don't think it will be easy... (for all the reasons I mentioned above)...

Hopefully, I'll be wrong, our Defense will play their best game so far and our two QB's, supported by the rest of our Offense, will help put up 31 points each and we'll Win going away 62 - 0..., but I expect it to be closer...

I just hope I can find Fisch on the radio... Did a dry run test today and could barely bring in 105.5 FM... Any old fashioned radio suggestions are appreciated... (Center Grove, Central Indiana area)... Supposedly Fisch lives within a few miles of me you'd think his station would have enough power to reach his home...!

The IU broadcasts are usually on 93.1. It has a pretty strong signal. We live in the CG area and haven’t had a problem getting it

Thanks... That sounds familiar from a couple of years ago... I just didn't see it in IU listings... Much Appreciated!

I’m confused. Why dont you just stream the radio?

Rourke is going to play and IU needs him to. The guy is unflappable which is essential when playing in front of a hostile crowd.
All teams are better with their #1 QB. So many of his completed passes were great touch and accuracy. What if some of that is lost? It will be hard to ask the D to actually get 7 points for us again. Without that the Washington game is completely different.

My phone is so out of date I can't see most of what's linked on here. I doubt my old software will allow me to stream it (but I was going to test that at some point)... Thanks for the thought and the input though... (not being sarcastic or smart aleck, seriously..., thanks for attempting to help me hear the game)...

1. MSU has a highly regarded coach in his first year who is perhaps exceeding expectations … MSU was the first team to make (September) Maryland look bad. They can beat IU, if IU plays poorly (which IU hasn’t done all year). IU needs to start the game focused.

QB Chiles throws a pick or two … we’ll need to jump on those opportunities. He will make the D look bad with a spectacular athletic play or three. I expect Bryant to out think a young QB and limit MSU to 3 scores.

The most important lesson from MSU’s Iowa win is that MSU can stop the run … But Iowa struggles to pass most games, and I don’t think MSU can afford to go one-on-one with Sarret, Cooper, and Price (Michigan out schemed MSU to win in Ann Arbor). I expect Horton’s wham blocks to be effective when the numbers in the box favor running.

2. I expect Rourke to start … and TJ to finish … I hadn’t seen any stories confirming any screws … if any, they won’t come out until after the season.

I believe Cignetti pulled Mark Langston out of the portal over the JMU Long Snapper who was in the portal at the same time.

Turns out that their starting Long Snapper is out for our game and probably for the year... If we can spook his backup with some bluff charges we may be able to affect his snaps... There's always the possibility of a block or two off the edge if the 2nd teamer is a tick or two slower getting the ball back there than the starter too... Hopefully he'll have a rough day and we can affect their kicking game...

The intangible here is what does Michigan State have left emotionally after a close loss to their biggest rival? Will They lack emotion and come out flat and non-competitive after licking their wounds from last week? In past years, I would be concerned about this being a trap game with Us looking past MSU with Michigan the following week. There may be an advantage in having all the roster turnover and a new Coach. This is their first trip through a Big Ten Schedule and They probably don't have an understanding or appreciation of Big Ten rivalries and history. They don't know what They don't know. That may be an advantage for Us.

Sometimes if you change carriers, as an enticement, they will give you a new phone. Might be worth exploring.

If MSU is great against the run, and we need to run, it may require us to throw first. That may really emphasize the difference between Rourke and Jackson. Even if Rourke can play he might be 70 or 80 percent and have his touch reduced. Maybe Jackson could run? QB draws? Scrambles?

My main concern with Rourke is not throwing the ball.
It’s what happens if he takes a hit on the hand or lands hard on the hand?
This is obviously stuff the staff and Rourke are aware of and will take into consideration when making a decision on playing time.

MSU is likely going to be a bit desperate coming out. They picked another fight at UM at the end of the game. We put a couple quick scores on them and they’ll likely start giving away free yardage and turnovers left and right. It happened in 2020. We forced 3 picks that game. Only thing that kept it from being a blowout was Penix threw 2 of his own.

The MSU guy in the game ending fight, opposite UM’s Loveland, was former Hoosier from last year, Anthony Jones. He was at IU only last season after coming from Oregon. Started some games last year for IU.

I believe both were at fault.

My tuner radio online.... it works, put in station numbers that you want, like 105.1 Bloomington Country and you'll get Fish...

Does anyone recall back in the 90’s, before all games were on tv and if not close enough to pick up games on radio, you could call an 800#, then punch in your school’s 4-digit code and listen live? Think it was $1/minute!! When IU was decent in ‘90-‘94, I probably called in 3-4 games/year. A couple games multiple times!!! At the time I didn’t realize it was probably for hard core gamblers, but I very much recall listening to ends of games in ‘93 vs Iowa and MSU, for sure.
