Movies, books, tv

I might have brought it up. I’ve been telling everyone I know to watch it. The actual guy who didn’t know about it has become something of a sensation. He kind of made the show. Happy it and Marsden got a nomination. Some of the writers from the Office worked on it.

I watched some interviews of Marsden and it's making me dig this show even more.

Main thing for the actors was they had no idea how the real guy was going to react, as they literally had five weeks to get the material. What if he was a complete dick? What if he was angry all the time? What if he was offensive?
Turns out he had the hippy spirit of Woody Harrelson and was cool with everyone, even though they were trying to be as outrageous as possible.

For example the roommate's goal (the chair pants guy) was to freak him out, but the real guy didn't get freaked out and actually befriended him.

Same thing with so many jokes that played off of him. For example when he told the one guy that Stewie from Family Guy got out of jury duty by saying he was racist that was a random conversation. The actor took that and turned it into a hilarious moment that we all saw coming after the judge told him going on vacation isn't a legit reason.

What a cool concept for a comedy. One part fake doc comedy, one part improvisational comedy and one part reality tv.

Watched the first two episodes last night. My son loves it. My favorite part were the references to the Notebook and Marsden and thinking of the WC. “He’s the other guy?!”

The judge is ultra realistic as is the defense attorney screwing up all the tech and mistaking files. I saw a lot of that as a young attorney.

Um, there’s a sex scene coming up, sort of. No nudity but it’s hilarious.

Yeah, we got through episode 4 last night and my wife (aka Funstopper) was already questioning it. Just means my son and I will have to watch when she's not around.
My wife won't watch sex on TV, graphic anyway. And by graphic I mean any skin whatsoever. She's definitely not prudish so I can only figure her p*rn addiction must have been pretty bad. I don't ask her about it, don't want to open any old wounds.

As Zeke alluded to earlier, the "sex" scene was hilarious.

I have a feeling this show will not be the last we see of Ronald. It's also very cool to read about how Marsden and Ronald have become good friends. When Marsden found out he had been nominated for an Emmy, Ronald was the first person he called. Ironically, though Ronald was the star of the show, and without his performance it would have been a flop, Ronald is the only cast member for whom an Emmy nomination was not really feasible.

Well, in the scene in question, there was definitely no skin shown (but it was a threesome, sort of). You'd have to see it to understand what I am talking about.

Were the lights on? Was there sound?

Was there in any way a possibility a child could be conceived of the act in question? Then, yes we're going to need to change the channel. It's baffling.

We watched all of the West Wing. THE WEST WING mind you. At least 3 times during that show she fastforwarded a scene.

I've learned to accept it and adjust accordingly.

Look, she likes sports and will sit and watch football while making fun of players on the field. She has real hatred and grudges for a great many players (sorry Mcm but she hates Messi, only b/c he's not Ronaldo). You win some, you lose some.

LOL You need to go watch the scene in question and come back and read your questions. I think you'll laugh out loud when you do.

Ah, thank you. Hilarious, yes. For watching with my 13 yr old, no. We'll be FFing through that.
So, I'll be fastforwarding as well.

@Noodle this is a tremendous service you're offering. Please continue to provide prescreening in perpetuity. That way folks like Brad and I can watch the full show as God intended. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I would have been with you when my son was 13. I'm just glad I remembered that the scene was in episode 5 rather than episode 4 that you said you watched.

I must say that the "sex" scene was right up there with a couple of scenes in There's Something About Mary. Absolutely hilarious "sexual" content but
without any nudity.
I'm not sure Jury Duty would even get an R rating in a theater. Yet, still uncomfortable to watch with your teenage kid or, for larsIU, a spouse. ;)

Blood either. No gore. Halloween is a lonely time for me.

I wonder if Ronald had to go through a bunch of personality tests before they cast him. I can’t imagine too many people would have been as open and laid back as he was in all the predicaments he found himself in.

Another show….I know many of you watched Yellowstone, but have any of you watched the prequels, 1883 or 1923? I’m almost done with the first one and enjoying it. Shows a group moving out west led by the Duttons, played by Tim and Faith McGraw.

Brad I hope you are able to get to the defense presentation....my GF was literally crying tears. There are two parts and again, for those who have been in the courtroom, I've gotta think it will work for you.

I'm just saying if you thought the defense was incompetent already, it gets worse (better).

Oh yeah both animations were hilarious.

I'm referring to when the defense attorney decides to attack the defendant trying to make a case that the owner was at fault for hiring such a loser....all without consulting the defendant.

Then what the defendant ends up doing.

That along with the mother's testimony just killed us, especially when you see Ronald's reactions to it all.

She literally had tears.

The judge on the show was actually a long-time lawyer here in Chicago:

According to Alan's bio on his company website, Alan did undergrad at The Ohio State University (where he studied theater) and got his law degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1980. He primarily worked as a litigator and worked not only in personal injury law but also professional malpractice, contract disputes, civil rights cases, and class action suits.

He was so perfect. Loved how he said he would have so many cases where the judge would literally change 180 depending on their mood (which was the basis of the day one jury selection from day two).

He totally made the show. Perfect casting.

I my have to do a double header…Barbenheimer. Going to at least Barbie Sunday.

Watched the final episode of Jury Duty tonight, and it’s the best one of all. Truly warms the heart.

Be like Ronald.
Finished up last night. Great series. They deserve an Emmy just for pulling that off.

The reviews are strong for Oppenheimer, and I cannot wait to see Cillian Murphy in a role he was born to play. The guy is mesmerizing.
It's unfortunate that there are only 19 true IMAX theaters in the US but fortunately Indiana has one at the Indiana State Museum.

Isn’t there still one on the south side near 31 and 465?

It's close to the IUPUI campus off of Blackford St. Also, it looks like most of the seating for Oppenheimer is already sold. The IMAX you may be thinking of are digital and not film IMAX's which is the difference. I'll probably go to one of them instead of going to the one downtown Indy.
