As a hot sauce maker I cracked up at that scene. From my own experience I am convinced that stainless steel makes the fumes even worse. If I dump any chili waste in our SS sink we need to evacuate the kitchen. Will be growing Carolina Reapers again this year along with about 25 other varieties. Been spending this afternoon ordering my seeds.

The line “tomorrow your ass will look like a Japanese flag” was hilarious (a bit tasteless, but hilarious)
And I forgot about the woman with the chickens! She was a riot too, especially her cock jokes.

And the relationship between Jeremy and Caleb is great. He’s just a kid, a farming oracle, and completely over Jeremy’s not knowing anything

My oldest and me are the only ones who eat the hot stuff. Not familiar with the Pepper Palace. Need to check them out. If you’re looking for some really tasty but not over the top hot sauce, look for Yellowbird. Their sriracha puts that other crap to shame. https://www.yellowbirdfoods.com/

Secret Aardvark is another good one. https://secretaardvark.com/

There is a Pepper Palace north of Cincy, we go there after Jungle Jim's to really hit the hot sauce. I don't know why, I didn't find yellow bird that good, but then I also don't go crazy over Sriracha.

I used to make my own habanero sauce, habaneros aren't that hot but I love their flavor. I would throw in a ghost just for the added heat though I don't find they have much flavor. I should get back to doing that.

One thing I can say about hot sauces, the ones with pepper extract suck. Not just in flavor, if they use extract they might have a 700,000 scoville but they seem much hotter. One of the ones used in Hot Ones, I think Da Bomb, is that way. It tastes hotter than the Last Dab. Dave's Insanity is that way, though the popcorn version works.

That jungle Jim’s looks like a blast

I despise sauces that use extract. There’s simply no reason to do it. Most of what I make now are fermented sauces.

Never read the book so I thought the movie was OK. Are you watching The Last of Us? Like most HBO efforts, I think it’s really good.
Just watched this week's episode tonight. I think it's getting better each week. My only nit to pick this week was the climactic battle scene looked like a video game mission. I think there's something to be said for being too true to the source material.

So I didn't go back and check, but I imagine I'm late to the party when pointing out how enjoyable watching "The Great" is? I've had a Hulu account that I've paid for for years and never really watched, but after seeing vids of scenes on you tube I checked it out and it is hilarious...

And since I started checking out Hulu, I've discovered that they have finally completed the long awaited sequel to the Mel Brooks classic...

Oh I love The Great! Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult are hilarious

Interesting take, and I see your point. Nevertheless, that scene was intense.

My minor critique is that they seem to be flying through things. Kansas City would have taken 1.5 seasons of The Walking Dead. I'm not sure it really detracts from the show; it just makes it different from what I am used to in a big budget cable TV series. You could watch episode 5 without having seen any of the previous four and still be entertained (and not lost).

To me, TWD was way too slow.

Ah, ok, had a lot of those.
Finished Clarkson's Farm 2. Perfect ending! Perfect. Just a wonderful, fascinating, entertaining show. I absolutely loved it! And i have to say it checks the boxes of shows i like the most: documentary, clever, good cast, well done, and about business/startups etc.

now my whiny bitching because i'm a whiny bitch. if you have enough money you can accomplish just about anything. i used to love to watch the profit with marcus lemonis until it pissed me off. he'd going into a failing business, usually retail of some sort, and make it "profitable" by fixing their "process." but the process was always the same bs. you're using old outdated equipment. here's $400k that'll cut 10,000 units a day instead of the 200 you were trying to make work. Oh you buy ten boxes at $500 a box but if you could afford 1,000 boxes you can get them for $200 a box. So let's buy 1,000. Look how much more profitable you've become under my stewardship.

If you have a heavy enough checkbook you can do just about anything. Including climb the football leagues in England

Isn't the moral of Clarkson's Farm "no matter how much money Jeremy has, the county council won't let him do anything"?

I don't know. He's always railing against government. He still got the restaurant going. He did so by getting it done in two days. what must that have cost? did you see the number of workers on site. i do agree gov intrusion and overregulation were a central theme of the show, but my jaded self saw money as the panacea to most any problem in business.

again i don't want my debbie downer to detract from what was yet another excellent season. i absolutely love that show. And the ending was perfect

You might check on the current status of that restaurant. I am only through episode 4, but I know from online commentary it has been closed down.

Politically I am not at all aligned with Clarkson. That said, he does an excellent job of pointing out where there are problems. It isn't just simply "there is too much regulation".

Some regulation is needed. For example, him moving soil to the quarry. I get his point. But if that soil has a lot of chemicals in it, and that quarry connects with drinking water, it is a problem to move it and dump it there. So I get why he needs to report that the soil is free of contamination. On the other hand, the badger TB problem is a real issue since it can easily bankrupt most farmers, and cause major problems in the food market. So maybe allowing badger kills where there is known TB isn't a bad idea.

Interesting. And i agree with you in large part. I'll write carefully so as not to spoil. You had a council that lost the forest for the trees. the community farmers related that the current milieu makes farming untenable. jeremy came up with a way, a coop, supported by struggling farmers, to help offset losses and ostensibly remain viable going forward while preserving the aesthetics of the area. the council not only ignored those concerns but aggressively acted against them.

and i say all of this with the caveat of not having read the actual filings or knowing what editing took place etc. so i do think too much regulation was the thrust of that element of the show. the council expects the farmers to stay in business, comply with keeping everything beautiful, while thwarting their ability to be viable. for anti gov types this was a hallelujah

This week's binge: Season 1 of The Flight Attendant. Way better than I expected it to be. It's a lot more than just a spy thriller dramedy. The reveal of the bad guy wasn't very well hidden, so there was no surprise there, and some of the plot points seemed contrived, but the acting was solid, and the subplot of the main character coming to grips with her problems helped make the TV show more than it otherwise would have been. Really gave it some depth.

Edit: Just wanted to add one thought: This reminded me very much of Perry Mason, in the sense that the main character experiences a personal transformation of such magnitude, that if the series continues, this entire first season will be looked back on as nothing but a drawn out prologue.

Liked season 1 quite a bit, season 2 not as well. The book, as usual was better. Chris Bohjalian is one of my favorite authors.

The Last of Us.

None of this is probably really news to many of you....and I'll prelude this by saying I don't watch (nor start) that many shows, and read about them zero. And the only videos games I've played in the last decade are with my young son....which amounts to some old sports games on PS3 and NES Classic games..(Mario 3 is still fun for all ages) . Oh...He's got a Switch now and we play NBA2K23 and Mario Kart. I did like games of this shows genre backed when I played games 10+ years ago. Anyway...

So I knew nothing about this show before HBO started marketing it so much. I'm through 3 episodes... 3rd episode was pretty remarkable.

But whole time I'm thinking this is like HBO's version of Stranger Things, (a show I think is fkn incredible, but not the point).

Only after looking it up, Stranger Things basically ripped off this story, not the other way around.

Do I care? no.... more good entertainment. And this looks really fun.

It keeps getting better. You won't be disappointed. Episode 5 was especially brutal.

I’ve had full swing on in the background. It’s interesting. Joe Dahmen is fascinating. Never seen a guy that good that self deprecating and chill.

Nothing compares to golf. If you were tour quality it would be one hell of a good life. You’d have to like caddies tho, as in cadillacs. Seems a reqmt

Always love seeing the face of the voice I've heard and have it be so off what I'd have thought.

Also, pedants, this is here b/c it's the theme song for The Leftovers.

We watched episode 1 of Poker Face. It has amazingly good reviews, and its Columbo take is certainly something to attract me to it. But I was a little disappointed, it wasn't bad, but ep 1 wasn't great. Maybe it will get better as I become better acquainted with the character.

Have watched this through 2 episodes.... now that I see where this is going, think it could be pretty fun, lighter- hearted entertainment. Like the vibe.

Finished up The Leftovers last night. Wow.

Easily top 10 series all time for me and, shockingly, might be top 5*. Gonna have to think on it. One of the best landings of a final season I've ever seen. Beautiful really.

*Current top 5:

1. The Wire
1. Breaking Bad
3. Band of Brothers
4. Sopranos
5. GOT

Might have to give BOB its own category.

While I thought The Wire was incredible (and objectively, one of the Top 5), for me, I found it dragged sometimes and I wouldn't binge three in a row if I had the chance. BOB was technically a mini-series, so easier to have a through-line on the story.

I don't know that I can rank them, but I'd have:

Breaking Bad
Mad Men
GOT
Lost (not the best made now, given prestige TV, but its the last show I regularly sat down to watch at the time it came out every week on network TV)
West Wing

Battlestar Galactica (new one) and Star Trek: Next Generation would also be in contention (I'm not a nerd! You're a nerd!).

You guys hit the big ones. I’d add:

Better Call Saul
The Americans
