We Own This City is an upcoming American miniseries based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton. Like the book, the miniseries details the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it. The miniseries was created and written by David Simon and George Pelecanos, and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. The six-episode series is set to premiere on HBO on April 25, 2022.

Been looking forward to this one. If it’s David Simon, I’m in.

I just saw Somebody Somewhere. Its a whole ensalada of emotions.

Funny, melancholy, real-life and dealing with loss are all thrown into one series.
Its about various journeys or life passages of different folks. Seeking identity, community and at some point purpose.

The Courier is a very good, true, and gripping account of some of the spying going during the Cuban missile crisis. Bert Cumberbatch stars and turns in another outstanding performance. Rachel Brosnahan ( Miss Maisel) plays a CIA operative who is actually a composite of a few different people and plays a good role. . Easily a 4+ star don’t miss movie.

On Amazon Prime.

Is Berle Ives in the sequel?

I watched The Case Against Boeing on Netflix. I thought it was fascinating. As a hometown company we had great pride in McDonnell Douglas. They were part of the fabric of our city and their campus is really something. I was surprised to learn that their "culture" served to essentially undermine the revered culture of Boeing and drag the quality of Boeing down. I still need to watch the ending after everyone goes to bed (too boring) but so far it's been fascinating.

I saw Sam Elliott also did not like Yellowstone either, he thought it was just a remake of Dallas.

I wonder if curmudgeon will help or hurt his career.

About halfway through Reacher. Remember the book it’s based on a little, but enjoying it. And yes, Reacher is a bit of eye candy. Much more suited to the role than Cruise.

I've suggested this to She Who Controls The Remote a couple times but she doesn't seem to be interested. I'm going to tell her all the women on the IU politics forum say he's a hunk.

Magnolia Network, formerly DIY, has a show called The Craftsman. Dude is in his 70s. Can't read or write, but has made a living doing woodworking in Eureka California on what must be the most Victorian homes per capita in the world. All of his machinery seems to be antique, some of it pedal driven. Just watched the latest episode and making tenons with a machine from the 1860s.

Fascinating to watch and you can't help but enjoy the guy's attitude. Always laughing.

Used to love the Woodwright's Shop on PBS. Think he was in North Carolina. Kind of a mix of Bob Ross and Mr Rogers but, you know, woodworking.

And, I have zero interest in actually working any wood.

It will be awful. Where do I get tickets.

Is it gonna be in IMAX?
Interesting timing considering the world situation and the extreme success of the Ukrainian Air Force. I suspect this will do well the box office. I wonder when the first movie portraying Ukrainian success against the Russian Air Force will come out.

I think this was supposed to come out some time ago but got delayed by COVID, if I remember correctly.

Interview with Glen Powell:

Q: The new "Top Gun" is launching at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Will that be a big moment for you?

Powell: Talk about not being grounded. That's gonna be such a cool thing. This movie is a ride all the way through. It's emotional, it's adventurous, it's romantic, it’s funny. It just kills it.

Q: You do a lot with Tom Cruise and your fellow newcomers in “Maverick,” from flying a fighter jet to playing some shirtless beach football. What made for the best time?

Powell: My favorite part was honestly learning filmmaking from Tom. There is no other actor in the world that can convince people to put real actors in real F18s, fly them through canyons and do it all with IMAX cameras on jets. They say don't meet your heroes, but Tom is one of those guys that you're like, man, you should meet Tom.

Tom Cruise rarely makes a bad movie. Weird dude, but good movies.

And yes, I generally separate the person from the art. Never meet your heroes, or so the saying goes.

I only play shirtless beach volleyball in jeans. It’s just like the rules man.

I have absolutely no Home Improvement skills and no desire to gain any, but I'm drawn to the home revamp/rehab shows on HGTV.

It's like a safe middle ground with the wife and I. We both get something out of it while never actually doing any of the shit they talk about.

I keep hoping they will have a trailer episode.
We saw one the other day which was for renters. RENTERS. Like, you do understand you don't own the property and any upgrades are going to be property of the landlord right? Why don't you save the money for, I don't know, a down payment. To be fair, it was mostly flooring, paint but even some cabinets and shit.

HGTV/Magnolia (whatever it's called) has jumped the shark (probably for the 10th time at this point).

Ever watch A Craftsman's Legacy on PBS? Great show in which Eric Gorges (motorcycle builder) travels around visiting a wide variety of craftsmen - from jewelry makers, to boat builders, to sword makers. He's like a slightly edgier version of a tatted Bob Ross.

Apparently you can watch episodes for free here (if you sign up): https://craftsmanslegacy.com/

And what's this I just discovered? A YouTube channel with new episodes! My lucky day: https://www.youtube.com/c/ACraftsmansLegacy/featured

Four episodes into season one and enjoying it. Remote Queen has made mention of Reacher's physique more than once. Me, I got to catch me some nekkid Roscoe, so it's all good.

Jeopardy just had a Franklin category, he refused patents on his inventions saying that they were for the public good.
Franklin is so interesting. Musk is kind of a modern day Franklin. They really are against the grain of how colleges/universities work with respect to picking a subject or "specialty" and gaining expertise in it and doing it forever. They were/are generalists

on the down side, CNN or one of "news" channels did a bit yesterday on ridiculous real estate prices, and whether it's worth it or not to buy a "fixer upper".

they talked to one "fixer upper" buyer to make their point.

some poor 30 something female who finally had to "settle" for "fixer", after losing some bidding wars.

the 30 something female was rethinking her decision and having some buyer's remorse, after having to pour a lot of time and effort and money into correcting what needed fixed.

apparently the "fixer" had boring countertops, which was what classified it as a "fixer upper" to miss 30 something home buyer.

oh the humanity of having to live with boring countertops.

idiocracy on steroids.

that said, nothing more "must watch" tv, than some old guy making a table leg on a manual lathe.

absolutely RIVETING.

This thread is so long I can’t recall if we’ve talked about the book, Hail Mary. It’s science fiction, usually not a fan, by the same author as The Martian. It’s very technical and sciency, but also tense and gripping, similar in many ways to The Martian. I imagine it too will be a movie. I think many here would enjoy it.
Also just watched and enjoyed the new Dexter. Hated the final season but thought this one was well done, with new setting and some good new characters.

LOL me too. And a fitting ending re Dexter. Much better. But man the intro is cheesy.

Over a true American hero such as Bill Self?

LOL. No, I didn't even watch the game at all.

I don't know if it's old age or dementia or what, but unless I have a rooting interest I don't watch sports like I used to. I watch IUFB and IUBB (men's and women's) religiously, but it drops off after that. I'll watch the Colts if it's convenient and will even watch IU baseball if they're on BTN (and I wouldn't otherwise walk across the street to watch a baseball game). I haven't watched the Pacers to any extent since the Reggie years, and really don't care much about the Colts since Manning and Luck left.
