Movies, books, tv

We finished watching Reacher on Prime last night. They did a great job. I was curious how they would handle all the thinking that he does in the books. Perfect combo of flashbacks and dialog to make it work. A chatty Reacher would have been a travesty.

I'm going to put that on the list. We started Deadwood. 5 episodes in. I love it but my stoker isn't going to make it. Of course

I keep suggesting Reacher to She Who Controls the Stream but haven't had any luck so far. Will turn the crank a notch.

This Reacher is very easy on the eyes according to Mrs. hooky. She was so into it, I was kind of worried for a bit.

@mcmurtry66 just be aware that Deadwood wasn't picked up for it's final season and it's an unfinished work. Still can't believe it as it was a fantastic show.

That's a bummer. I don't know if I'm glad you told me or not

HBO was still trying to figure out the new world of elite high-cost TV back then. Cancelled Rome and Deadwood within a month of each other.

50th Aniversary of the release of The Godfather coming up in a couple of weeks' time:

Francis Ford Coppola Breaks Down His Most Iconic Films

Sam Elliot says what I think about Power of the Dog. i think that is one of those movies people are afraid to dislike lest somebody calls them a rube. Well, I didn’t think much of Power of the Dog. I didn’t really dislike it, I just didn’t find it very remarkable.

I didn't like it that much either. And I like a lot of the people in it. Just felt like it was missing something.

I think this is the weakest year for Oscar nominees I can remember. Almost all art house films, except for West Side Story. I’ve seen all and none blew me away. My favorite, C’mon C’mon wasn’t nominated. Nightmare Alley is creepy, compelling, and well acted. I’m hoping some of this is pandemic related . I love going to theaters to see a movie, but with everyone basically having home theaters, I’m not sure they will survive.

It was missing writing, good acting, competent direction and a compelling story, just to mention a few minor factors . . . .

It was a complete waste of time.

Second episode of the new Mrs. Maisel season... looks like she's going to go feminist in some fashion. Wife is souring on the show. We agree to a degree. The over the top Jewish family stuff isn't funny and adds little, but the stuff where she's actually going after gigs and dealing with others in the business and (especially) her onstage stuff is great.

Bummer. I like that show

Is there an NCIS episode that doesn't start with someone finding a dead marine?
Following this vein a bit....

Best completely formulaic (non sit com) show? For me:

1. House
2. Law and Order (original or SVU)
3. A-Team (fight me)

Edit: CSI somewhere in there

House I loved. I also might suggest Burn Notice though like House by the end I was begging it to end.
Burn Notice has been circling the radar for years and I’ve never pulled the trigger. Might though now. Wife is starting to get a bit more interested in “binging” so to speak.
