Does not sound to me like he is in trouble at all. Like I said they will not touch him.
Izzo is one person on MSU’s campus whose voice and actions can make a difference. People will follow him. People at MSU largely adore him.
Many folks outside of the MSU community, however, range from suspicious to unfairly bloodthirsty.
Izzo hasn’t always helped himself. He doesn’t speak eloquently on this subject. His sincerity is questioned. I have no doubt he loves MSU. There is nothing he can do more for his university right now than to tackle this epidemic head on, no matter how uncomfortable it makes him, no matter how difficult a conversation with Kowalski might be.
The three accused players from that 2014-15 MSU team were not named Thursday by Kowalski. Nor have they been charged by police. They aren’t even part of the lawsuit.
No one has suggested Izzo knew about the alleged rape before the lawsuit dropped last April. Kowalski’s attorney, Karen Truszkowski, has said she doesn’t believe MSU’s coach was at all aware.
“It’s not about basketball. Not about the players, necessarily,” Truszkowski said Thursday. “It’s about how she was treated by the university.”
Most of that can’t be undone. Perhaps Kowalski won’t want to speak to Izzo. But reaching out is the decent thing to do.
