Looking forward

I'm thinking Archie is done with 2019. Feels like he turned the page a couple weeks ago when he either learned or figured out LQ and Morton were not coming. He immediately started focusing on 2020 and making offers.

There does not appear to be much left out there as a grad transfer. I suppose I wouldn't be shocked if he added one, but the odds of finding an impact player at this point seems very long.
There's little chance Archie is done for 2019. My guess is, he's waiting for the Watford decision tomorrow, first. (best guess it's LSU) Then Archie will (should) go after whatever grad transfer(s) he can get. This team needs bodies at Concussion U. The last thing we need to hear next season is a thin bench. Archie needs to get it going next season and the worst thing he can do is not use all the spots available, whether they pan out or not.

There are two open scholarships. Waiting on one player makes no sense in that case. I wish he had gotten at least one more grad transfer but I don't think it's going to happen.

I think we will be just fine. Players will mad big improvements on their shooting this summer.

May 29th is the NCAA deadline for players to withdraw from the draft. I’m not sure how that works, but hopefully we have a plan in place and we fill our two remaining scholarships.

Sure it makes sense to wait. Don't all coaches hope to get the best players available even if the chances were slim to none? I don't like the idea of open scholarships for this team. May have to scour the HPER I guess.

Improvement yes. Big improvement from upperclassmen, i doubt it. Im hopeful that Franklin can shoot it.

We're in trouble if Anderson is a big key.
I agree. Anderson may be the shooter we needed, but I am not counting on that or the other areas he needs to work on being solved this year.

In Green, we have a player that can make shots and wants to be the guy that takes the big shots. I am glad someone on the team plays without fear. I am hopeful his confidence rubs off on the players that make better decisions.

Smith is in danger of becoming a smaller version of Hanner. The difference is that I have seen Smith look really good. Smith has to play with a high energy level even when he isn't getting the ball. He seems to fall asleep when he isn't getting scoring opportunities.

Davis and Durham need to be solid and give us 8-10 ppg and be available all season. The veteran players need to play like veterans while TJD, RP, and Hunter come on and produce as we believe they are capable. I would add Race to that list, but I don't see him having the impact the other 3 will/can make.

Anderson needs to regain his shooting confidence and play D.
Green needs to cut down on turnovers and make shots.
Smith is Hanner with even worse shooting, and ballhandling. Smith needs to set screens, rebound, not commit TO, and block shots.
As a non-shooter Smith can be a backup to Hunter and Anderson.
TJD, Rob, Hunter, DeRon, Brunk, Race, Franklin, Durham, Vijay should provide depth.

I am not a shot doc but Anderson’s shot looks very strange.
We are not all robots.
If the shot goes in it counts just the same.
Damezi Anderson is South Bend's All-Time leading scorer with over 2,000 career points.

Smith will be interesting. The position he would be perfect for with his size and athletic ability is not the position that matches his skill set. Maybe he has been working hard on his handle and shooting for the last 2 years and it will kick in this year. Maybe, but I am not counting on it. The only place he can contribute is at a position he is commonly undersized and competing with Thompson and TJD.

I don't know what instructions the staff has given the players over the summer. I would suggest Smith should spend a lot of time with one of our better on ball defenders with live drills/scrimmages to challenge his ability to move against a defense with the ball. /he could also work on pull up 15-20' jump shots. I don't expect him to be Calbert Cheaney, but it would be great if he could play the 3 and share the position effectively with Hunter. Otherwise the 3 will be a third guard as we saw most of last year

Better shooter than Smith.
I wasn't comparing him to Smith, I just stated that Anderson's shot sucked this past year. Whatever you do, please do not answer this with his high school 3 point percentage as I don't give a damn what the kids did in high school.

Max prep website says he shot 43% from 3’s in middle school. I think they were county champs his 7th grade year.

After RL committed a year ago, I was so excited about IU basketball again. A year later, my interest is dwindling again. Top recruits going elsewhere and not much reason to think IU makes the dance next season. Hope I'm wrong.
While I didn’t think IU was going to be a top tier team in the nation I thought they might be one in the big ten. I wholly expected Romeo to take charge of close games and show why he was supposed to be nba-ready as a high schooler. Yes, he led the team in scoring, etc but he just never ‘showed up’ to take over. Just my opinion.

All the more reason to wonder why he struggled so much with his shot. I'm hoping the light comes on this summer and next season he becomes the shooter we hoped he would be.
