Among the three players who will be joining head coach Curt Cignetti for Indiana football’s media day on July 25th are two transfers.

Wake Forest transfer running back Justice Ellison, and James Madison transfer linebacker Aiden Fisher highlight the many new faces on the roster along with offensive lineman and 2023 captain Mike Katic

Interesting Donavan didn’t rate a trip … part of ‘you need to step up motivation’? Starting QB Rourke apparently gets throw to Sarret, Donavan et. Al … running routes.

I’m assuming these selections are more leadership based and not a reflection on play or talent.

All three have a why I came to play for CCC story. Need to keep selling the program for early signing day.
Communication skills clearly play a factor … need someone comfortable with a camera and a mic
Team captains have been commonplace at prior media days.

Hope the presence of Katic also indicates the amount of respect and admiration Coach Cignetti values Bostad's confidence and advice on his charges on the OL.

My guess is the ‘been there done that’ factor first, as this is Katic’s second year in Indy.
Sending a returning OL team captain, is a nod to Bostad’s work to improve OL play.

IU takes to the podium tomorrow.

INDIANAPOLIS — Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano was excited to hear that Curt Cignetti was joining the Big Ten ranks.

Indiana football hired the former James Madison coach to replace Tom Allen at the end of November. Schiano only knows Cignetti in passing, but he’s familiar with the family’s long history in college football dating back to Frank Cignetti Sr.’s time as an assistant on Bobby Bowden’s staff at West Virginia.

He learned all about Frank Sr.’s accomplished career — he was inducted into the College Hall of Fame as a coach in 2013 — from Curt’s younger brother Frank Cignetti Jr. Schiano hired Frank Jr. as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during his first stint at Rutgers in 2011.

Weird. The Crimson Quarry article says Sarrat and Evan’s are going to Indy and everyone else has Ellison and Katic as the IU players going.

Liked Katic’s quote

Coach [Bob] Bostad called me on a typical Wednesday morning and said, "hey, any chance, I was kicking this around, would you want to come back and play center?" I was like, "maybe, let me talk to my parents and get coach Cignetti on the phone, I would like to talk to him." Cignetti FaceTimed me and pitched me what he does, he wins. I said [to myself], I have an opportunity to play center, I have an opportunity to learn under coach Bostad for another year, and I want to win. I had a bad taste in my mouth from the last two seasons and I want to leave this place on a good note and I want to leave it better than I found it.
