James Comey

Are you saying that the presence of guns in a photo is necessarily an endorsement of or incitement to gun violence?

I'm not much of a gun guy. But a healthy percentage of the people I know hunt, do sport shooting, or both. And it's never occurred to me to associate them or their activities with violence. I'm sure none of them would hesitate to use them in a defensive capacity, if need be. But they typically use them for recreational purposes.

I think this must just be a cultural divide.

I'm saying they are symbols that can be misconstrued just as easily as dbm is misconstruing what 86ing means.

And I understand using guns for hunting (although many guns seem to be major overkill in that department given that bambi doesn't need tons of rounds per second to be killed). What I don't understand is why any sane person would use a gun in a campaign ad or Christmas family photo.

Also, I doubt you're going to find anything -- anything other than the Palin ad, anyway. It's the only time in my memory that the issue of crosshairs in political advertising ever made its way into the ether. And the whole thing was a hoax -- which is why we're talking about it in the context of this latest hoax.

I mean, I suppose it's possible that a candidate for some obscure office in rural West Virginia ran an ad with his opponent in a crosshair. It's a big country, with hundreds of years of history.

It's OK if you fell for the Palin hoax. A lot of people did -- even the editorial board at the NYT. I'm not bringing it up to dance on anybody's head....just to say that this sort of deception and manipulation is common and, I think, has played a critical role in our political dysfunction.
and again I'm not talking about the palin ad so you can quit with the palin ad. Continuing to bring it up is just wasting everyone's time.

And do you think your memory is all encompassing? If you missed it, then it must not have happened LMAO.

Hell, I've gotten Christmas cards from friends with their sons similar to this. Are you saying my friends are insane? Again, it's just a cultural thing. FWIW, it's not my thing either. My friends would laugh at me if I sent out Xmas cards with me or my family carrying rifles.

But, no, there's nothing insane about it. And it has nothing to do with promoting violence, either.

As I said, it's possible there was some other ad that some obscure politician ran that I never saw. But, if that's the case, any attention it did get would have come from people amplifying it critically -- which is kind of ironic, if they really believe such messages are dangerous.

But the reason I think you're just recalling the Palin ad is because it's the only time that crosshairs in a political ad has ever made its way into broad discussion. And a whole lot of people ended up subscribing to the myth that (a) it played a part in the Giffords shooting, and (b) the ad featured photos of politicians in the crosshairs.

It was a disinformation campaign. And quite a successful one, at that.

Some are arguing that it has been used as a death threat. In fact, that’s what caused Comey to delete it. Whether or not that’s true, I don’t know.

What I’m very sure is true is that Comey didn’t have that in mind when he posted this. He meant it in the way you’re saying: impeach him.

The idea that he would deliberately and knowingly make a death threat to POTUS or anybody else on social media is so preposterous that it could easily pass as satire.
Which high crimes and misdemeanors should he be impeached for since January?

Look, he said he didn't know what 86 meant. So he is innocent.
What he actually said was:

“I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”

In other words, he knew what “86” means (it’s in the dictionary) but didn’t realize there were dumb snowflakes out there that would claim it meant advocating the murder of the President. I say 86 dumb snowflakes. That does not mean murder them.

I wonder if he’s referencing a CNN employee

Oh, how about violating the emoluments clause in accepting a 747 from a foreign country - and not a terribly friendly foreign country, at that?
I think you actually have to take it into possession first but what do I know the guys on the water cooler would by happy to impeach him over getting a peace deal in the mideast. The cooler really is next level Trump rage stuff. Even tops twitter and always always lives up to its billing. No idea how you guys will keep up the rage level for a full four years but I will enjoy watching it that is for sure.

I wouldn't say that I have Trump rage, exactly.

I fully confess to despising the man and believing him to be unfit for the office. But, despite this, I voted for him in the past. And there are things he's done or is doing that I've supported -- and won't hesitate to say so. A presidency is about so much more than a single man, after all.

That said, I try my level best to call 'em as I see 'em. And it's crooked as hell for him to accept that plane -- and probably unconstitutional. If Biden had done that, you and every other MAGA would've been all over him for it....and rightly so.

You've kept your rage level high for over 8 years. You have no self-awareness, do you?

What a charade this is.

Comey was dumb to do what he did. Just plays right into Trump's hand. But anybody who actually and sincerely thinks that was done to make a threat is a complete fool. And nothing will come of this legally. Bet on it.
He’s not just dumb. He is unethical and dishonest too. He should have been charged for records violations for the NYT leak he admitted to and even bragged about. He was one of the architects of the Russia hoax. I don’t believe anything Comey says. He is just dumb enough to put those sea shells as he did, and dishonest enough to lie about it.

Gee, who else could you be describing there? In fact every one of those things is much more correctly applied to Trump than Comey.

But it was ok when Trump himself retweeted pictures of Biden bound and tied? That was cool, right?

A child knows what that means, but he likely didn’t know until they told him. Although if it is a mob thing, he probably did.

You decide to come back to the politics board to shower us with this tripe? Come on.

Anyone can fart out lazy Trump insults ad nauseum.

Don’t you have anything else to offer?

That's cool. 86 still doesn't mean what pearl clutching maga thinks it means.

You don’t get this. It makes no difference what “pearl clutching maga think”. The question is what did Comey think. I don’t think Comey arranged those shells as he did to extend his heartfelt best wishes to Trump.
Comey knows the definition and the actual meaning of that number. His crime is miscalculating the number of dumbasses in this country.
