🚂 crash

There's a whole page of the history of the Reamer Club

The group’s first constitution called for the formation of the Reamer Club. The name, Reamer, was selected because the PIA felt the ‘Reamers would smooth out the holes the Gimlets made’. In other words, they would finish the tasks that the Gimlets undertook.

Blame on the Gimlet Club's drunkenness, I guess. What a strange bunch of oddballs.

So sad to read about an innocent person's death. They supposedly drive that thing to every away game too.
Purdue traditions are all so consistently odd.

Yes. Why couldn't they drive a street legal car on the road? No different than someone driving a semi

Not as odd as some...

When you blow a tire suddenly it helps to have a good grip on the wheel and have some strength. Can really save you. I just don't think 20 year olds are experienced enough, but I guess nobody considers mechanical failure anymore since vehicles have become so bulletproof.. And also not sure about the strength factor when the driver is female. But maybe the thing was considered as safe as a car. I don't see how, but it wasn't my call.

Just a sad accident.

How is that an equitable comparison? Did the BS operators have CDL's? Were they transporting goods? What purpose does the BS serve for being on city streets and highways?
Why can't a legal operating vehicle on a semi chassis drive on the road? Guess I don't see the issue here. It is on a legal chassis and passed all inspections. To drive the thing, you have to pass rigorous testing that involves 30+ more driving hours than what you did to drive a car.

It weighs roughly the same as a medium duty pickup truck. This was a horrible accident that could have happened to any medium-sized vehicle.
11,000 pounds isn’t in medium duty territory. That’s 3/4 ton. Medium duty trucks weigh 14,000 to under 26,000. It is a cut up navistar medium duty though.

It’s not a semi chassis. If it was it would weigh more than twice as much and require a CDL B. It’s a cut up navistar 4600.

You compared it to driving a semi. Semi trucks serve a necessary purpose (the transportation of goods) and are operated by those who possess a specific license. What purpose does the Boilermaker Special serve? Why does it need to be on the road traveling at a high rate of speed regardless if it's street legal or not? Did the operators of the Boilermaker Special possess the same license classification to that of a trained semi truck driver?

So your issue is that a street legal vehicle is driving on the road with other street legal vehicles? Just to confirm. Not sure the issue here.

A semis purpose is solely to haul stuff that trains could do, but the government refuses to invest in safer, more efficient transportation. But seems you are making an issue out of nothing here for some unknown reason.

How many other street legal vehicles have a 1000+ lb steel cowcatcher sticking out in front of it, including semi-trucks?

I'm not arguing whether or not the vehicle is street legal, what purpose does it serve being on the road traveling at such a high rate of speed?

Trains are responsible for hauling thousands of containers a day. How do you think those containers are transported from railyard to warehouse?

You think the cow catcher weights 1000 pounds? Ya missed the point in the trains. But what rate of speed was the special going? Still don't see the issue here and I'm glad they are building another one.

Still legal and safe to drive one roads. Even if you are correct.
Safe is debatable. The new one being built looks better suited though. Also, I was just trying to get the facts straight on what it really is.

It weighed enough to completely split the sedan that it hit in half, that's my point. Assuming driving the legal speed limit, it was going at least 50 mph and instantly killed the driver of the other vehicle.

And you completely have missed my point. YOU are the one who compared the Boilermaker Special to a semi truck, not me. If the operators of the Boilermaker Special had the same credentials to that of somebody who is licensed to drive a semi, we can talk. But then again you still can't answer what purpose it serves and why it should be on a highway.

I don't know the exact credentials required, but I do know its quite the process to be able to drive. But you don't know either…

And why do I need to give a reason or why does it need a purpose? Hint: it doesn't and I don't.

I suspect that after this the modified vehicle will have limited use on streets other than campus streets.

Don't bother engaging with him... He doesn't give a sh-t about the young woman whose life was snuffed out by a 6 ton piece of creative fan art..., and he clearly doesn't care about all the other people they're going to put at risk by building another one... He just lives to get reactions on here (rarely ever posts in his own site).

I'm hoping beyond hope that someone on the deceased side of things finds a way to sue "the Reamers" to oblivion... That's the only way to keep the rest of the state safe from these morons...

My list of whom to sue is above although I did not know the name "Reamers" until later. I assume that name came from Friday Date Nights at the Sheep Barn.

wow. Pretty crazy you can say this about me. Its a super sad situation. At least I'm not using this to make jokes….

Also, I post on my own site probably 4-5 days a week. Idk where you get your data from but its wrong.

As it should. There's zero reason for that thing to be traveling at a high rate of speed on the highway. It would cost a couple grand each way to ship it on a flatbed or stepdeck to an away game. The cost is going to pale in comparison to what Purdue is going to end up paying in settlements.

They say they drive it to every road FB game, which is wild. Nebraska and the East Coast schools are long drives, and soon they would have had to go to the west coast schools I guess (insane). I'm shocked they don't ship it like you said -- their train shows up to the road games relatively clean and without all that wear and tear, also much less hassle for the drivers. Whole thing is odd.

I would think the cow catches weighs close to 1,000 lbs. some of the students they push out out the way are heavy.

I read elsewhere that a couple of other highway witnesses have come forward to claim they saw the “train” speeding.

I don’t remember, but surely they played at least one of the 4 west coast schools away last year didn’t they???

I wouldn't consider a fabricated novelty vehicle with a 1,000 lb weapon mounted to the front traveling 75 mph on a public highway piloted by 22 year old kids....."nothing"

And sadly we just saw why.

It is sad. Agreed. Where have you seen 1000 pounds? All wrecks are sad.

76-1, just posted on the Purdue board again. Keep pumping fake news though.
