The ladies knocked off #23 Iowa. Garzon had a big game and was 7 of 8 from the field and 5 of 5 on 3s going into the 4th as IU had a 64-51 lead early in that qtr. Garzon finished with 21 points, and Moore-McNeil and Parrish both had solid games and scored 18 and 15 points, respectively. Iowa made a run in the last 3 minutes or so to pull within 66-62 with 1:52 left in the game. A layup by Striplin put IU up 68-62 at just over one minute to play and a couple of FTs by Moore-McNeil gave IU some breathing room down the stretch. IU fouled a three-point shooter with 48 seconds left as Iowa pulled within 70-65. Two more FTs by Moore-McNeil put IU back up to 72-65 with 48 seconds still left. IU put the game away with a Striplin layup with seven seconds left in the game.

After that stinker in Evanston Wednesday, that was refreshing

Amazing we won playing against 8 most of the game.

I wish I could ask Coach Moren the free throw question. I know in public she would have to be diplomatic so I would need to be her sister or best friend, etc.
But my question would be “Why was there such a difference in the number of fouls called on IU vs Iowa? Did we do something poorly? Did Iowa do something really well? Was it the refs?”.

Thanks for posting. The game was great. We took a lead, absorbed a run, took a lead, absorbed a run, etc. When we were up two late, I really thought we were in trouble.
Strip had, I thought, the biggest bucket. The shot that let us go up 6 really late in the game was huge. I agree Yardon’s 5-5 from three was big, Syd was big with her threes (after starting 0-4 from three), and Chloe’s normal leadership plus about 20 points.
Great entertainment from an IU fan point of view.

Fouls were basically 23-13. And I thought Iowa's guards were pretty aggressive. That being said, we didn't get flustered. But I was shocked with 24 sec left, down 5, that Iowa didn't foul quickly.

Edit: I was also impressed how quickly Garzon reattached her arm when it was ripped off with no foul called.

I can’t figure out why they are not ranked or receiving votes with 3 wins against top 25 teams, and two of their losses coming against 2 of the top teams in the country. Really the only bad loss was Butler and that was early in the year for a new team finding their rhythm. Michigan is 25 without a top 25 win, and 4 losses.

They stumbled pretty hard out of the gate this season. Two bad losses and a blowout loss to UNC have them where they're at in the national conversation. That said, I'll be surprised if they don't get some votes in the poll that's coming out later today.

New rankings come out today, but I wouldn't expect much. Stanford is no longer receiving votes, Baylor isn't ranked (getting votes), Iowa was only 23rd.

Effectively 28th this week...3rd most ORV, 14 votes total. Could be short-lived if they lose this week (Illinois and USC). Or two wins would be a huge week. I'll be happy if they go 1-1.

I assume you mean the non-call on her baseline jumper. Yeah, an obvious hard slap on the arm.

Those two early season losses to Harvard and Brown still loom heavily in the voters' minds, with the no-show homecourt loss to UCLA not helping any also.

You have me really confused. We beat Brown. And do you really describe the UCLA loss as a no-show? We lost by 11. Only Louisville in the season opener has played them closer.

One game at a time of course but we should beat Illinois. They have two guys out for the year. USC is another matter entirely. Even at home we only win that with great three point shooting.

Yeah, the Brown game was a brain fart on my part and I meant Butler. Yeah, the final score on the UCLA game was somewhat close but I don't think that we felt we were going to pull that game out.

I agree that I never felt we had a chance to win the UCLA game after the crappy 2nd quarter, but I still wouldn't call it a no show. They're the best team in the country. They're clearly better than us at probably every position. No-show suggests to me that we 'lost' the game or didn't play well...to me, that just wasn't how I saw it at all. But you may disagree.
