IU whiffed on Ryan Langborg

The portal was loaded with very good shooter and CMW was so focused on bigs that he failed at balancing the team with a great shooting guard. He was gambling on Galloway to be way better. Man that was a huge mistake as far as outside shooting is concerned. His rotations for long periods of time leaving your best front guys on bench baffles me too. I can understand breathers but 5 play clock minutes at a time with Bricklayer Sparks out there is ??? at best.
I don’t agree with this at all. Sparks is not a bricklayer (except on fts). It’s astonishing to me that he simply can’t get a shot off. If he doesn’t get much more crafty around the basket as the seasons goes on, he might never score again.

It's was great until the last 7 minutes. But Maryland is horrible. I'm not happy with winning 1 NCAA Tournament game a year. Maybe you are. Or not winning the BIG. We fired Crean and he won multiple BIG titles and got to the Sweet 16. What are your expectations?
Preach.

I love Sparks intensity but someone needs to coach his free throw shooting.
I laugh everytime he goes to the free throw
line and it says 6'10" 258. I was thinking he was 6'8"-6'9" tops. Anyways then the free throws are shot and its more... weird...

Lol 2 years at IU and we get posts like this. What do you want to do fire him? Mike is 50-27 with two tournament appearances in two years.

Danny Hurley was 35-29 with no tournament appearances his first two years at Uconn. he didn't win one tournament game until year five, now he's this great coach. You all would've had him canned by year 3.

I've said it many times I'll say it again, it takes years to build a program. Our fanbase is great at times but sometimes it's ridiculous.

You need multiple guards in the NCAA. It's a guards tournament. He was great in the NCAA Tournament last year. How was Galloway. I'm concerned about who plays best then. Not over a long season of meaningless games
Let me see. Without winning those "meaningless games" you don't get picked to play in the games that DO mean something . . . but you say they are meaningless.

You have me totally confused.

It shouldn't take 3 years to recruit a guy that can make 3's

He’s intense, but has limited all around skills. Just a really big kid with limited athleticism and ability.
When he gets the ball in his hands I wait for something bad to happen. One should never leave him alone in a china shop. He might break something, much like a Brahman bull on Monster might, trying to find his way back out.

Good thing it hasn’t. Stewart shot like 38% from 3, Kopp was upper 30s to low 49s, X has been upper 30s, Galloway shot like 47% last year, Ware and MM have beautiful strokes and look to be good shooters.

While we all want more wins, a BT title and playing into the 2nd weekend of NCCA tournament, the depths Archie left the program in, especially lack of talent besides TJD has taken time. The renewed enthusiasm of 3 wins in 4 vs PU; 3-0 vs UM; and 3 straight wins vs the Illini, has been encouraging…Archie never beat PU or UM and think had only 1 against Illinois. NOW he has to figure out how to beat PSU, NU, Iowa AND keep beating the 3 others named above.

Did you watch yhe NCAA Tournament last year? Obviously not stat boy. IU lost early but Princeton didn't. What's Galloway's career 3%? I'm waiting. 80% free throw shooter. Learn the game please.
IND lost early, but PUR and UK lost earlier. :)

I don’t disagree with your overall point, but the NCAAT is a crapshoot much of the time.

IU has a really strong frontline. Those three guys are still working out their chemistry. As the chemistry gets better, and Mack gets going (hopefully), I expect the outside will start to open up for IU’s shooters. Galloway will start connecting, as will Mack.

On the other hand, I’ve lost faith in Gunn. He will either start connecting, or I hope he leaves those shots to guys that are much more likely to hit.
Gunn like MM never sees a shot he won't take,no matter how bad or if O is even set. At least MM is improving and wanting the team to get at it.

Then why hire a 63-year-old with no college coaching experience? Desperate Hail Mary.
Whatever, I care about the results on the court. Not how old our coach was when he was hired or the constant bitching of fans I have to endure because they didn't want him hired in the first place.

Win or not, that's the only thing that matters.

There's win, and then there's WIN. If IU fans are fine with a win or two, max, in the NCAAT (if they make it), getting consistently blown out by good teams away from AH, and not being a true threat to win the B1G, then Woody is your guy. Some fans expect more from a "Blue Blood" program (if IU still is one).

Many are still in the "Woody is a better coach than Archie" mindset ... and THAT is how fans with low-to-average expectations think. ANY coach worth a s*** would have had similar or better results with IU's last two rosters.

I'm sure I'm labeled negative or whatever, but I'm simply being pragmatic based on 2+ years of evidence. Decent coach? Maybe. Championship-level coach? That's laughable.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt my take on MW will be proven wrong.

BTW, I was in favor of the hire. At the time, I ignorantly didn't realize the massive difference between coaching in the NBA, and coaching in college.

He’s not a better fit next to who we have. He’s almost the same player as Trey. You going to trade one for the other. We actually needed a guy for the other wing. That type of player is harder to find. Like a dalton knecht…etc. not another trey Galloway. The trade off might’ve worked but at this point it’s not enough difference.
He’s not nearly the overall player as Trey. Ok ball-handler and not a great defender. He had a good tournament last year and that sticks out in people’s mind, but he was shooting 22% from 3 prior to the Purdue game. There were much better targets we eyed in the portal, just didn’t land. Chicago kid transferring from Princeton to NW makes too much sense any way.

Not going to label you a Negative Nancy, just think you’re an idiot. Going to let this year play out before coming to some of the conclusions you’ve already offered. Lots of championship caliber coaches don’t display that kind of evidence 2 years in.

And Trey is shooting 14%. He is very overrated. But you love him for some reason.

He's exactly what we needed out of the portal. Staff really missed on their evaluation and now an empty scholarship. Gunn has shown zero consistent signs of anything. Leal passed up shots again last night. No signs of Maryland being close to a tournament team.
The sky is falling? 6 - 1 ,never happy, never satisfied.

Was going to comment but you pretty much nailed it, unbelievable how many people have given up on Woodson after only two years of pretty damn good results.

Yes they would because they would be wide open due to double teams. Malik is doubled every time he gets the ball.
no, they won't, you have to make them first. I rather have 60% from two.

I'm not a basketball coach by any stretch but after building a comfortable lead, you might take the opportunity to rest your "best guys" and also reduce the chance of them getting injured. We have tougher opponents than we faced last night coming up soon.
Leave CMW alone. We are 6 - 1.

You crack me up. Aren't you NOT letting the year play out by calling me an idiot in December? Very hypocritical. But yes, we shall let the year play out. We'll see who's the real idiot.

The dichotomy between the free and premium boards is staggering. Here, there are so many snowflakes that being critical of IU is tantamount to treason. On the premium board, people seem to actually understand basketball. I blame myself for getting involved by slumming it on this board. If you wish me gone ... wish granted.

Good day.

Everyone missed on Nick Timberlake. It happens.

He’s a much better two-way player than Langborg and it isn’t particularly close. I choose to look at things like that over select shooting percentages in one off games to try and drive a narrative.
Compare the NCAA Tournament stats. I like important game stats not Kennesaw State.

Kennesaw St is the only good game Trey Galloway has had as a Hoosier? Please.

Langborg is a solid player, he’s not a better fit than Galloway…by a long shot.
